6. 5 hour practice
• Select your best thumbnail study from recent homework and develop this into a new
artwork that you spend about five hours completing.
• This will be your first five-hour piece.
• To successfully complete your five-hour piece you will first need visual reference: create a
series of photographs or work from observation, or found imagery. You should be taking
inspiration from an artist you have chosen, but you must not do is simply copy another
person's work; instead generate your own work and own ideas from now on for the rest of
the project.
• You can complete this task (and all future tasks) within your sketchbook in any media of your
choice.
7. 5 hour practice
5 hour practices are longer sustained practice than your thumbnails. You might choose your
favourite thumbnail or do something similar to one of your thumbnails. But it should take you
longer and be more detailed. 5 hour practices are your won ideas, do not copy the work of an
artist, but you can be influenced by their work.
You can work from: photographs you have taken, photographs I have taken, objects in front of
you, people in front of you. If for example you are doing natural forms drawing lions, tigers, etc
like Talha, you may have to find images on the internet to work with.
You are ultimately now practicing for an exam that will happen at some point. So you are going to make lots of practices.
It goes something like this:
• 3 Strands
• Respond to strands in any medium (you can copy an artists work, or any image or create your own image)
• Thumbnail studies
• 5 hour (a longer more detailed piece (still a practice)
• Another artist research
• Thumbnail studies
• 5 hour (a longer more detailed piece (still a practice)
• Thumbnail studies
• 5 hour (a longer more detailed piece (still a practice)
• Statement of intent (you write about what you are going to do in your exam)
• Final piece. This would usually be an exam
