Persuasive Essay On Sports
Competitive sports
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to
stop you from doing what you love because they think it's not useful or a waste. Some people say
competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in.
However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive
sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will
need for the future.
One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they
participate in competitive sports. One example is that "children who were involved in sports
were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported
more positive feelings than those who didn't participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive
and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31)." If children hold an extreme love for the
sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and
helps people relax. "Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you
feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research
,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998)." Playing sports can help bring families or
other kids together to build strong bonds. "It appears that US children are healthy and happy as
they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their
children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to
make friends?, 2009)." A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and
doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which
all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide
being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death
situation.
Correspondingly, fitness is a huge plus side of competitive sports. Diabetes is affecting around 8.6%
of America's population. "More than 29 million American

Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence
ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE:
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of
humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of
women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live
in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out.
We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic?
Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first
but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the
struggle, and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence
myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you
to do the same.
I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since,
knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family
member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she
just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises
became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I
knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people
who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few
months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself.
Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how
anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant
other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

Persuasive Essay On Success
Goals, something every human being on this planet has and to reach those goals you must be
successful. We set goals to fulfill our purpose in life, but to do that, you must be successful in
meeting and completing those goals. "How Bad Do You Want It?" is a motivational speech that
highlights the requirements of being successful. This speech is important to study because success
is so vital and important for our survival as human beings, it changes the world. No matter your race,
religion, culture, etc., you want to be successful and that will have a different definition for
everyone, because only you can define what success means to you. "How Bad Do You Want It"
encourages its audience to think differently about wanting to be successful and how to make it
happen. This speech holds all the components Aristotle says a speech needs to be effective which
include, persuasive, decorative, and informational, also meaning motivational, actionable, and fun
(Morgan, 2016). While watching the football player perform each exercise repeatedly, I witnessed
the effort and dedication he exerted through each set – this commitment resonated with me, as I am
also an athlete who is expected to elicit these qualities. Not only hay, the video serves as
confirmation that success is only attainable for those who want it bad enough and are willing to
work for it. Even the background music playing provoked an internal motivation to be proactive.

A Persuasive Speech On The Death Penalty
Persuasive Speech:
Why I Believe the Death Penalty Should Be Abolished Hello, everyone. My name is Devlin
O'Connell and I am going to be speaking to you today about why I believe the death penalty should
be abolished. There are three factors that I base this argument off which surround ethics, efficiency,
and expenditure. In relationship to ethics, I would like to begin with a quote by human rights
activist, Desmond Tutu, "To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice."Capital
Punishment, also known as the Death Penalty, is described as a government practice where a person
is put to death by the state as a punishment for crimes such as murder, treason, espionage, and
genocide. While it may seem unlikely that many people would be convicted of a few of the latter
crimes, there were nearly 3,000 people on death row in the last year. Of those 3,000 people, 117
were found to be innocent. It is predicted that at least 3% more of those sentenced would have been
exonerated with enough time and resources. Let that sink in. An untold number of innocent people
have been executed. As it is, many relatives of victims have said that they do not wish for their
relative's killer to be put to death. Circling back to Tutu's quote, the government is not providing
these families with justice – but with revenge.
We are "perpetuating a cycle of violence unworthy of a civilized society," to quote Bernice King,
"retribution cannot light the way to the genuine healing that

How To Write A Persuasive Essay
Writing essay is one of the things that I used to dislike before. For me, writing an essay was a
difficult and boring thing. However, I change my mind when I was doing the assignment,
"Persuasive Essay". This essay is my first English essay, and it was a quite challenging task for me.
In this assignment , I learned a lot. For example, to use the transition words to connect each
paragraph. Also, to use other writer's words to make my idea be more powerful. Thus, this
assignment improves my writing skills a lot. Before, I didn't know that I have to use the transition
words in an essay. For me, an essay is constituted by many single paragraphs. However, everything
is different when I was doing this assignment, Persuasive Essay. I noticed that every paragraph
should support theme to make an essay stronger. Also, after Ms. Weller marked this assignment, I
learned that using transition words can create a powerful link between my ideas. For example,
using the word, "in addition" , can make two paragraphs connect to each other. It also can make
readers understand the logic of an essay. Therefore, I' ve learned the writing skill which can make
each paragraph be connected from this assignment....show more content...
I really enjoyed it. As I was researching, I also could read other writer's literature. I notice that
using the quote or data can make the theme of an essay be stronger and more persuasive. For
example, I use the quote from Steven Crowder, the author of "TheTop 5 Reasons College May Be
Waste Of Time In 2015", to support my idea, going to college is unnecessary. The quote not only
can make an essay more cogent but also can make readers agree with writer's thinking. Thus, I've
learned to use the quote to make my essay to more

Reflection On My Persuasive Speech Essay
Reflection on my Persuasive Speech
All communication is an attempt to influence, highlights Back (1951) and, by extension, hinders the
audience 's preconceptions on a topic. Thinking about communication and particular verbal strategies
and theory both brought forth excellent criticisms and compliments ofor my persuasive speech. It 's
purpose being to persuade the audience in favour of Britian 's exit from the European Union. My
persausive speech aimed to educate the audience further on a topic and opinion, New Zealanders
tend to distance themselves from. It also aimed to initiate a shift in attitudes towards my viewpoint.
Attitudes, Values and Beliefs
Prior to my speech, I assessed the probable attitudes, values and beliefs of my audience. O 'Keefe
(2001) describes an attitude as a person 's overall evaluation of something with the notion of an
attitude being the evaluative judgment of (reaction to) something. Social judgment theory is a
persuasion theory proposed by Sherif and Hovland (1961), defined by Griffin, (2012) as the prior
observation and evaluation of an idea by comparing it with the audience 's current position. When
assessing this position, I assumed the speech was clearly catered to a familiar audience. The
audience consisted of similary aged peers from assumed similar backgrounds, because of this I was
relatively easy to relate too– creating idealisatic Identification, a persuasive communication
technique outlined by Burke (1950). It was important to take

Argumentative Essay Childcare
"14.2 million children under age 13 met federal requirements for child–care subsidies in 2011–2012.
Of that number, 8.6 million were eligible under state policies. Yet only 1.5 million children actually
received the subsidies. That means only 10.6 percent of the number of children meeting federal
guidelines actually get the subsidy" (Davidson 2017). The question that will be answered throughout
this paper is, how accessible is childcare in the United States? Child care is the care of children by a
day–care center, babysitter, or other provider while parent/ parents/ or legal guardian is working.
The median household income for the United States is $53,8895 (Census Bureau) and the average
cost of childcare is between $10,000 and $16,000 (Hamm 2015). This means that childcare can cost
families making the median income 30% of their annual income. Given that this is the median
household income, half of households have an income that is below this costing them more than
30% of their income. The United States has excellent child care that is affordable for some,
however, most low–income families are unable to afford it.
Child care is incredibly important for the youth because has been proven to improve children's
development. Early childhood education has a countless number of benefits, including more
equitable long–term outcomes for children of diverse economic backgrounds. Additionally, investing
in these benefits early on helps create future workforce, secure long–term

Persuasive Essay About Self Discipline
Everybody at some point in their life has wanted to make a change, hopefully for the better. For
most, it can take some serious self discipline to actually put these changes into full force. Here's a
proposition: take the time out of the day to sit down and actually think about the outcomes of the
problem, and then decide if it's worth going through the motions to make that change. Because
everyone on this earth has a given amount of time everyday, no one can use the excuse that they don't
have the time of day; that's bullshit. Yes, some may have a busy schedule but you have breaks
throughout the day. May it be the required break they get from work, the commute from school to
home, or when they're alone with their thoughts at night;...show more content...
They should've known that they weren't truly alone, since the individual has been there for them
always, but they really must've to think that their best friend wouldn't been with them the one time.
The minute the individual found out about their friend's death, they started to crash and burn, tearing
themselves apart, blaming themselves, saying that it's their fault that they couldn't save you since
they didn't know. Their mental and physical state started to deplete and they've become accustomed
to the numbness that has spread throughout their body. They start to eat unhealthily and just stop
working out all together. Minor health problems start to invade their system, they get sick more
easily than before and just wait until it surpases. It gets to the point where they've been dealing with
so much numbing pain that they, themselves, start to contemplate the same thoughts their friend was
thinking years back. They have the mindset that, they'll be reunited with their best friend if they were
to meet the same fate. Eventually, they will, but they're thinking about meeting that fate sooner
rather than later. But they don't want to really do this, they want to get better, but the rut they've
created is so coarse and rugged that it'll be difficult to fix those problems. First off, the individual

Writing A Persuasive Essay
It's a simple enough idea, write an essay about a topic for credit. I'll admit I've written good
essays in the past, I just have one issue with this topic; I am not a persuasive person. I don't have a
passion to write about, or an idea in my head. Even if I was passionate about something, I doubt I
have the skill to convince you. My arguments would consist of why I like the topic (or hate it) with
an extreme bias, and I doubt that you would be moved. I couldn't convince you that the long hours of
school take a toll on the students. Even if others agree with me, the way I word things, the lack of
passion and my lack of being able to be assertive is the reason why I can't write this essay. First
things first, the way I word my thoughts. Regardless...show more content...
You'll get this definition: "The writer takes a stand on an issue–either "for" or "against"–and builds
the strongest possible argument to win over the reader. In a persuasive essay, it's the writer's job
to convince the reader to accept a particular point of view or take a specific action." Along with a
bunch of How Tos. I've have taken a stand that is very passive–aggressive, on why I can't write this
essay. I know what you're thinking, this is ridiculous. Just think of it like this, as you sit there
reading me ramble on and give excuses. You're starting to listen. Yes, you have been in my spot
before, lack of passion words don't form right and you're just not clear enough. I see the irony here,
this very essay, it contradicts itself. A persuasive essay on why I can't write a persuasive essay. In
the end it's genius, I'm not faking an opinion or sing someone's thoughts. You might have considered
this option before but it seemed too stupid. You looked up prompt after prompt. Nothing. When you

Schools have been using the same learning techniques for a long time. Since technology has been
evolving, there are changes that have made schooling harder, and some changes that have made
schooling easier. For example, instead of using paper and pencil students now have iPads and their
own laptops to do their school work on. Are these more advanced changes for the better, and make
learning more convenient, or are they unfavorable and make schooling complicated and more
problematic? Most examples lead to the conclusion that laptops are more convenient. for the reason,
that they make school work easier and generate easy access to sites for research.
During the beginning of my Highschool career everybody was given an iPad; grade six to grade
twelve. However not everybody is fond of the iPads. Many students, throughout the long school
days, have come up to the library to check out a laptop because they either "lost" their iPad, or they
just don't want to use it. Many students have tried to check out laptops even when they have their
fully functioning iPads, so now whenever you want to check out a laptop you have to leave your
phone for collaboration. In almost every class teachers use the iPads, but not all teachers are fond of
the iPads either. Some teachers continue to use paper and pencil because it's more of a convenience
to them.
Laptops are more convenient for me to use because of the classes I'm currently taking. Such as my

70 Percent of Americans do not know how to perform CPR are you one of them?
Who here is CPR certified? (pause)
Can everyone please place your two fingers (index and the middle finger) on your neck, the side of
your windpipe. Can everyone feel your pulse? This is also known as the Carotid artery.

Now just take a moment and appreciate how lucky we are to be alive. It is very important for our
heart to be pumping blood through our veins and our organs to help them function properly to keep
us alive and breathing. Just think without our heart pumping blood we wouldn't be alive! And that is
a scary thought.
Thesis: It is easy for anybody to learn CPR, and is something everyone should do to help save
someone's life!
Topic 1). Let's begin with the basics... What is CPR? It is a live saving procedure done by
performing chest compressions to pump the heart in order for it to circulate blood and deliver
oxygen to the brain. Who knows what CPR stands for? (pause) CPR stands for cardiopulmonary
resuscitation.
Did you know that...
According to the "(CDC) Center of Disease Control heart disease is the number one leading cause
of death in america. If you have heart disease then you have a higher chance of cardiac arrest or a
heart attack."
Well let's pause there...
What is cardiac arrest? "According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), sudden cardiac
arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating, resulting in no blood flow to the brain and other
vital organs." .This occurs instantly leading to unexpected death. People tend to confuse a heart
attack and cardiac arrest with one another (pause)... a heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest, but
they are completely different. What is a heart attack? A heart attack is caused from a blockage of
blood flow to the heart muscles. (pause)
Oxygen is required for your cells to
Topic 2 .) So why is CPR so important?
Well first of all... You can save a person's life. Such as a loved one, because according to the
American Heart Association "about 70 percent of cardiac arrest happens at home and unfortunately
only about 46 percent of the people who experience this get immediate help they need before
professional help arrives." So you could be saving a loved

Persuasive Essay About The Meaning Of Life
"The meaning of life is nothing more than having a goal and doing something that needs to be
accomplished. Life is given to prove who you are as a person and to be willing to spend your life
like it was the most expensive thing you carried in your entire life." – Jamie La "Thinking of the
possibilities that life has given us. It's literally endless that making our dreams come true is
possible. Just remember that anything is possible, you just have to go for it. Don't just stop there,
just keep going till the very end. It's all about whether you're able to make it happen, so make them

do things differently than what we used to do before. Maybe we should understand life at its
fullest and understand why life's like this. Maybe we just have to aim for the best we could
possibly can. Maybe if we start making changes that can change the way we see a better life. Maybe
if we start working hard and dedicating ourselves to our goals, big rewards will eventually come to
us." – Jamie La "Strolling to places that brings new adventures, to find something new that was
not been discovered before. Seeing new people, seeing new things, and seeing new places are
adventures yet to be explored. It is a journey to explore new things and to embrace life to its fullest.
As we keep going, the journey and adventure will also do its thing." – Jamie La "Learn how to
accept other people for who they are. All they ever want was to be welcomed in this world. They
just want to feel like they belong in this society." – Jamie La "You're here because you want to share
your dreams and passions to this world. You're here because you want to make a difference in life.
You're here because you want to achieve success. More importantly, you're here because you want to
show the world who you are today." – Jamie La "They say that success all comes from your will to
work hard and putting yourself out there in the real world. Though it may be tough at times to
reach towards it, it's because you need to keep pushing yourself towards your full potential. It's not
going to be easy getting to where you want to be, and most of us can relate to it. Just

"Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be
graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics," announced Mr.
Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously
groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and
about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose
and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already
rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death

I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a

Persuasive Essay On Agriculture
When you think of the word agriculture farming is probably the first thought that comes to mind. At
its most basic element, agriculture is the way in which we produce food, the most basic human need.
There is an untold amount of differing opinions on the topic of how we should grow food; smaller
family farms being pitted against commercial operations, conventional agriculture against organic
practices, and much of the public does not know what "side" to pick. Agriculture has developed
into a highly controversial issue, with each view point claiming that it is the only correct way to
farm; despite this, it is imperative that we lay aside our differences in opinion and come together if
we are going to create a sustainable food system responsible for feeding 9 billion hungry mouths.
By the year 2050, estimates show that over 9 billion people will inhabit Earth, and it is imperative
that agriculture finds a way to feed them all. That is about 1.5 billion more people than there are
today. One of the biggest dilemmas that agriculture faces is that relatively little more land can be
converted into land used for agriculture production, without causing irreparable, detrimental effects
to the environment. The damage that this would cause is the subject for another essay, but the
bottom line is that it is necessary we produce this food using the land we already have. The only
way we can accomplish this is to combine the best practices of organic, or small farms, with those of

Persuasive Essay On Suicide
In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness,
love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide because it is not a solution to a problem, it
should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of
one's own life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face
of life–threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal stress, or when under the influence of
one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). This topic interests me because of the fact that the
rates are increasing year after year and it can happen to someone close to me at any moment. This
topic should interest you too because someone close to you can show warning signs, which can be
subtle or more discernible. Also if you are reading this as a parent, you should know "suicide is the
third leading cause of death for those between the ages of ten and fourteen, and it is the second
leading cause of death for those ages fifteen to thirty–four" (Goff). Yet the factors that play into a
someone's decision is anything but simple. The most obvious and severe effect of suicide is the loss
of a meaningful, valuable human life. "In the United States in 2013, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41,149 individuals committed suicide and approximately
494,169 received medical treatment for self–inflicted injuries. The World Health Organization
(WHO) reported an estimated 800,000 suicides worldwide in 2016, and suicide is the second
leading cause of death among fifteen– to twenty–nine–year–olds worldwide. Women attempt suicide
more often than men, but men complete suicide more often than women because men tend to use
more lethal means, such as a firearm" (Piotrowski). With suicide rates on a continuous rise in
America, society must ask what can be done to save lives.
The main argument against suicide is that it is selfish, which is true. By you killing yourself, it
causes a lot of pain to those left behind, like your family, loved ones, friends, etc. They tend to
blame themselves for your death. Even if you feel like nobody in the whole world cares about you,
you are wrong. When you think

Should Students Get Less Homework?
The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some
student's homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all
their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of
homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4).
So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it
improves their well–being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and
showing that homework does not affect grades significantly.
Stress and anxiety in students is mainly caused by homework (Galloway 3). Excessive Homework
can cause a variety of health problems and "Studies that have explored the relation between
homework and well–being indicate that number of hours of homework is negatively associated with
psychological well–being, physical health symptoms, and sleep." and these health issues can be very
detrimental to students (Galloway 4). According to Galloway a "study of 1,457 students...found that
academic demands [were the main reason] students gave for their sleep–deprivation." and a lack of
sleep can be detrimental to learning and engagement in school. A study of Australian high school
students showed that doing more homework led to "more mood disturbance (...and fatigue)
(Galloway 4). More time spent doing homework, the

Persuasive Essay On Suicide Prevention
Why should anyone care about someone's life beyond their own? It seems like common sense.
People should value human life just like they value their own but with the rate of suicide, it's clear
they don't. Suicide is the act or instance of taking one's own life voluntarily (Merriam–Webster, n/a.)
Suicide prevention has not been viewed as something valuable to fund and that's contributing to the
rate of suicide today. People need to care simply because people are dying. People are taking their
own lives because the value place on mental health is not considered as high as the value placed
on physical health. Not many people are ending their own lives because of a broken leg, but
because their mental health is so invasive and painful they can no longer deal with the burden of
living with it. Humanity can move forward in helping the mentally ill by looking at the statistics
and providing active methods to help them. Each year 34,598 people die by suicide. That
balances out to an average of 94 suicides a day. (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) Those are just completed
suicides, where it ends in death. 864,960 suicides are attempted a year. This means that every 38
seconds, one person attempts suicide. (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) People are attempting to end their
lives at an alarming high rate each and every day. Because of this, suicide ranks as the eleventh
leading cause of death across all ages (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) In fact, more people are dying from
suicide than homicide. So each year 34,598 completed suicides take place. In comparison to that,
only 18,361 homicides take place each year (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) Both are absolutely
devastating but only one can possibly be prevented. Homicides tend to be isolated, unpredictable
events with nothing visible leading up to them so there's no method of preventing them. However,
with suicide, occasionally there are warning signs and when noticed, preventive action can take
place. Suicide on college campuses is a growing issue. The rate of suicide of college campuses is
.5 and 7.5 per 100,000 among college students (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) There are more than 1,000
completed suicides per year on college campuses. (Suicide Statistics, n/a) Suicide may only be the

training and isometric exercises, which can increase blood pressure.
Limit the amount of salt in your diet. Reduce your alcohol consumption to at most two drinks a day
or eliminate alcohol from your diet completely.
If stress contributes to your hypertension, learning a relaxation technique practicing it regularly may
help keep your blood pressure within bounds.

Does that mean everyone should take a dally aspirin?
Along with reducing pain, lowering fever, and relieving inflammation, aspirin also blocks certain
clotting factors in the blood. For this reason many physicians recommend that patients with a high
risk of heart attack and stroke take one aspirin tablet (325 milligrams) daily or every other day as a
form of preventive medicine.
At least two major studies have indicated that at this low dosage aspirin can actually reduce by half
the risk of heart attack in healthy, middle–aged men as well as lower the risk of a second stroke or a
second heart attack by 25 to 50 percent. A more recent study shows that women, too, may benefit
from aspirin the raby.
Another study of aspirin's blood–thinning properties involved patients with a heartbeat irregularity
called atrial fibrillation that afflicts more than a million Americans. Test results suggest that daily
doses of a single aspirin tablet (or another blood–thinning drug called warfarin) reduce stroke risk in
both men and women patients by 80

Persuasive Essay On Parking
Adam complains about parking at least three time a day. He is late to economics class every
Tuesday and Thursday, and Professor Willis simply cannot take it anymore. Professor Willis told
Adam that he needs to wake up earlier in order to get a spot on campus, but sleep is vital to all
college students. Sleep should not be compensated for the time to find parking. Adelphi should
instead listen to the proposal in this essay, which deals with the plan of action to create more
parking spots on campus. Spots are limited, and Adam is not alone. There is a large number of
people who have a problem finding a parking spot. Parking is the number one problem on campus
for both residents and commuters and a solution is needed. Adelphi has the money and power to
create more parking spots on campus by extending both of the underground parking lots. The
benefits of extending the underground parking lots will allow for Adelphi to cut down on their
shuttle service, permit all students to park on campus, and for less accidents to occur. Some argue
that the extension of both underground parking lots will cost a lot of money, and they are not
wrong. It will cost millions of dollars to renovate both parking lots, but the benefits will most
certainly outweigh the costs and save money for the university in the long run. Extending the
parking lots will require materials, workers, and require for certain parts of the campus to be shut
down. This will of course create major chaos during the time

Presuasive Essay

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Sports Competitive sports Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it's not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future. One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is that "children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more positive feelings than those who didn't participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31)." If children hold an extreme love for the sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people relax. "Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998)." Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to build strong bonds. "It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009)." A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation. Correspondingly, fitness is a huge plus side of competitive sports. Diabetes is affecting around 8.6% of America's population. "More than 29 million American Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out. We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action? I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle, and a step to save our nation. And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you to do the same. I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse. Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Success Goals, something every human being on this planet has and to reach those goals you must be successful. We set goals to fulfill our purpose in life, but to do that, you must be successful in meeting and completing those goals. "How Bad Do You Want It?" is a motivational speech that highlights the requirements of being successful. This speech is important to study because success is so vital and important for our survival as human beings, it changes the world. No matter your race, religion, culture, etc., you want to be successful and that will have a different definition for everyone, because only you can define what success means to you. "How Bad Do You Want It" encourages its audience to think differently about wanting to be successful and how to make it happen. This speech holds all the components Aristotle says a speech needs to be effective which include, persuasive, decorative, and informational, also meaning motivational, actionable, and fun (Morgan, 2016). While watching the football player perform each exercise repeatedly, I witnessed the effort and dedication he exerted through each set – this commitment resonated with me, as I am also an athlete who is expected to elicit these qualities. Not only hay, the video serves as confirmation that success is only attainable for those who want it bad enough and are willing to work for it. Even the background music playing provoked an internal motivation to be proactive. By delivering Eric Thomas's speech in his unique hip Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. A Persuasive Speech On The Death Penalty Persuasive Speech: Why I Believe the Death Penalty Should Be Abolished Hello, everyone. My name is Devlin O'Connell and I am going to be speaking to you today about why I believe the death penalty should be abolished. There are three factors that I base this argument off which surround ethics, efficiency, and expenditure. In relationship to ethics, I would like to begin with a quote by human rights activist, Desmond Tutu, "To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice."Capital Punishment, also known as the Death Penalty, is described as a government practice where a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for crimes such as murder, treason, espionage, and genocide. While it may seem unlikely that many people would be convicted of a few of the latter crimes, there were nearly 3,000 people on death row in the last year. Of those 3,000 people, 117 were found to be innocent. It is predicted that at least 3% more of those sentenced would have been exonerated with enough time and resources. Let that sink in. An untold number of innocent people have been executed. As it is, many relatives of victims have said that they do not wish for their relative's killer to be put to death. Circling back to Tutu's quote, the government is not providing these families with justice – but with revenge. We are "perpetuating a cycle of violence unworthy of a civilized society," to quote Bernice King, "retribution cannot light the way to the genuine healing that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. How To Write A Persuasive Essay Writing essay is one of the things that I used to dislike before. For me, writing an essay was a difficult and boring thing. However, I change my mind when I was doing the assignment, "Persuasive Essay". This essay is my first English essay, and it was a quite challenging task for me. In this assignment , I learned a lot. For example, to use the transition words to connect each paragraph. Also, to use other writer's words to make my idea be more powerful. Thus, this assignment improves my writing skills a lot. Before, I didn't know that I have to use the transition words in an essay. For me, an essay is constituted by many single paragraphs. However, everything is different when I was doing this assignment, Persuasive Essay. I noticed that every paragraph should support theme to make an essay stronger. Also, after Ms. Weller marked this assignment, I learned that using transition words can create a powerful link between my ideas. For example, using the word, "in addition" , can make two paragraphs connect to each other. It also can make readers understand the logic of an essay. Therefore, I' ve learned the writing skill which can make each paragraph be connected from this assignment....show more content... I really enjoyed it. As I was researching, I also could read other writer's literature. I notice that using the quote or data can make the theme of an essay be stronger and more persuasive. For example, I use the quote from Steven Crowder, the author of "TheTop 5 Reasons College May Be Waste Of Time In 2015", to support my idea, going to college is unnecessary. The quote not only can make an essay more cogent but also can make readers agree with writer's thinking. • 7. Reflection On My Persuasive Speech Essay Reflection on my Persuasive Speech All communication is an attempt to influence, highlights Back (1951) and, by extension, hinders the audience 's preconceptions on a topic. Thinking about communication and particular verbal strategies and theory both brought forth excellent criticisms and compliments ofor my persuasive speech. It 's purpose being to persuade the audience in favour of Britian 's exit from the European Union. My persausive speech aimed to educate the audience further on a topic and opinion, New Zealanders tend to distance themselves from. It also aimed to initiate a shift in attitudes towards my viewpoint. Attitudes, Values and Beliefs Prior to my speech, I assessed the probable attitudes, values and beliefs of my audience. O 'Keefe (2001) describes an attitude as a person 's overall evaluation of something with the notion of an attitude being the evaluative judgment of (reaction to) something. Social judgment theory is a persuasion theory proposed by Sherif and Hovland (1961), defined by Griffin, (2012) as the prior observation and evaluation of an idea by comparing it with the audience 's current position. When assessing this position, I assumed the speech was clearly catered to a familiar audience. The audience consisted of similary aged peers from assumed similar backgrounds, because of this I was relatively easy to relate too– creating idealisatic Identification, a persuasive communication technique outlined by Burke (1950). • 8. Argumentative Essay Childcare "14.2 million children under age 13 met federal requirements for child–care subsidies in 2011–2012. Of that number, 8.6 million were eligible under state policies. Yet only 1.5 million children actually received the subsidies. That means only 10.6 percent of the number of children meeting federal guidelines actually get the subsidy" (Davidson 2017). The question that will be answered throughout this paper is, how accessible is childcare in the United States? Child care is the care of children by a day–care center, babysitter, or other provider while parent/ parents/ or legal guardian is working. The median household income for the United States is $53,8895 (Census Bureau) and the average cost of childcare is between $10,000 and $16,000 (Hamm 2015). This means that childcare can cost families making the median income 30% of their annual income. Given that this is the median household income, half of households have an income that is below this costing them more than 30% of their income. The United States has excellent child care that is affordable for some, however, most low–income families are unable to afford it. Child care is incredibly important for the youth because has been proven to improve children's development. Early childhood education has a countless number of benefits, including more equitable long–term outcomes for children of diverse economic backgrounds. Additionally, investing in these benefits early on helps create future workforce, secure long–term Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Essay About Self Discipline Everybody at some point in their life has wanted to make a change, hopefully for the better. For most, it can take some serious self discipline to actually put these changes into full force. Here's a proposition: take the time out of the day to sit down and actually think about the outcomes of the problem, and then decide if it's worth going through the motions to make that change. Because everyone on this earth has a given amount of time everyday, no one can use the excuse that they don't have the time of day; that's bullshit. Yes, some may have a busy schedule but you have breaks throughout the day. May it be the required break they get from work, the commute from school to home, or when they're alone with their thoughts at night;...show more content... Their mental and physical state started to deplete and they've become accustomed to the numbness that has spread throughout their body. They start to eat unhealthily and just stop working out all together. Minor health problems start to invade their system, they get sick more easily than before and just wait until it surpases. It gets to the point where they've been dealing with so much numbing pain that they, themselves, start to contemplate the same thoughts their friend was thinking years back. They have the mindset that, they'll be reunited with their best friend if they were to meet the same fate. Eventually, they will, but they're thinking about meeting that fate sooner rather than later. But they don't want to really do this, they want to get better, but the rut they've created is so coarse and rugged that it'll be difficult to fix those problems. • 10. Writing A Persuasive Essay It's a simple enough idea, write an essay about a topic for credit. I'll admit I've written good essays in the past, I just have one issue with this topic; I am not a persuasive person. I don't have a passion to write about, or an idea in my head. Even if I was passionate about something, I doubt I have the skill to convince you. My arguments would consist of why I like the topic (or hate it) with an extreme bias, and I doubt that you would be moved. I couldn't convince you that the long hours of school take a toll on the students. Even if others agree with me, the way I word things, the lack of passion and my lack of being able to be assertive is the reason why I can't write this essay. First things first, the way I word my thoughts. Regardless...show more content... You'll get this definition: "The writer takes a stand on an issue–either "for" or "against"–and builds the strongest possible argument to win over the reader. In a persuasive essay, it's the writer's job to convince the reader to accept a particular point of view or take a specific action." Along with a bunch of How Tos. I've have taken a stand that is very passive–aggressive, on why I can't write this essay. I know what you're thinking, this is ridiculous. Just think of it like this, as you sit there reading me ramble on and give excuses. You're starting to listen. Yes, you have been in my spot before, lack of passion words don't form right and you're just not clear enough. I see the irony here, this very essay, it contradicts itself. A persuasive essay on why I can't write a persuasive essay. In the end it's genius, I'm not faking an opinion or sing someone's thoughts. You might have considered this option before but it seemed too stupid. You looked up prompt after prompt. Nothing. When you finally settle you know it's not your best work and the grade shows. Or you did it last minute, reworded someone else's essay. You've even considered turning in nothing, I mean what's the point Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Essay Schools have been using the same learning techniques for a long time. Since technology has been evolving, there are changes that have made schooling harder, and some changes that have made schooling easier. For example, instead of using paper and pencil students now have iPads and their own laptops to do their school work on. Are these more advanced changes for the better, and make learning more convenient, or are they unfavorable and make schooling complicated and more problematic? Most examples lead to the conclusion that laptops are more convenient. for the reason, that they make school work easier and generate easy access to sites for research. During the beginning of my Highschool career everybody was given an iPad; grade six to grade twelve. However not everybody is fond of the iPads. Many students, throughout the long school days, have come up to the library to check out a laptop because they either "lost" their iPad, or they just don't want to use it. Many students have tried to check out laptops even when they have their fully functioning iPads, so now whenever you want to check out a laptop you have to leave your phone for collaboration. In almost every class teachers use the iPads, but not all teachers are fond of the iPads either. Some teachers continue to use paper and pencil because it's more of a convenience to them. Laptops are more convenient for me to use because of the classes I'm currently taking. Such as my CIS comp, CIS world history, and my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Persuasive Essay "Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics," announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. "What is your topic Cindy?" As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. "Waffles are better than pancakes." I figured that awaffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. "Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!" I survived to live yet another day. As I walked to lunch, I went around and asked everyone the age old question: "Do you like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Agriculture When you think of the word agriculture farming is probably the first thought that comes to mind. At its most basic element, agriculture is the way in which we produce food, the most basic human need. There is an untold amount of differing opinions on the topic of how we should grow food; smaller family farms being pitted against commercial operations, conventional agriculture against organic practices, and much of the public does not know what "side" to pick. Agriculture has developed into a highly controversial issue, with each view point claiming that it is the only correct way to farm; despite this, it is imperative that we lay aside our differences in opinion and come together if we are going to create a sustainable food system responsible for feeding 9 billion hungry mouths. By the year 2050, estimates show that over 9 billion people will inhabit Earth, and it is imperative that agriculture finds a way to feed them all. That is about 1.5 billion more people than there are today. One of the biggest dilemmas that agriculture faces is that relatively little more land can be converted into land used for agriculture production, without causing irreparable, detrimental effects to the environment. The damage that this would cause is the subject for another essay, but the bottom line is that it is necessary we produce this food using the land we already have. The only way we can accomplish this is to combine the best practices of organic, or small farms, with those of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Persuasive Essay On Suicide In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness, love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide because it is not a solution to a problem, it should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of one's own life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face of life–threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal stress, or when under the influence of one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). This topic interests me because of the fact that the rates are increasing year after year and it can happen to someone close to me at any moment. This topic should interest you too because someone close to you can show warning signs, which can be subtle or more discernible. Also if you are reading this as a parent, you should know "suicide is the third leading cause of death for those between the ages of ten and fourteen, and it is the second leading cause of death for those ages fifteen to thirty–four" (Goff). Yet the factors that play into a someone's decision is anything but simple. The most obvious and severe effect of suicide is the loss of a meaningful, valuable human life. "In the United States in 2013, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41,149 individuals committed suicide and approximately 494,169 received medical treatment for self–inflicted injuries. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an estimated 800,000 suicides worldwide in 2016, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among fifteen– to twenty–nine–year–olds worldwide. Women attempt suicide more often than men, but men complete suicide more often than women because men tend to use more lethal means, such as a firearm" (Piotrowski). With suicide rates on a continuous rise in America, society must ask what can be done to save lives. The main argument against suicide is that it is selfish, which is true. By you killing yourself, it causes a lot of pain to those left behind, like your family, loved ones, friends, etc. They tend to blame themselves for your death. Even if you feel like nobody in the whole world cares about you, you are wrong. When you think Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Should Students Get Less Homework? The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some student's homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4). So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it improves their well–being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and showing that homework does not affect grades significantly. Stress and anxiety in students is mainly caused by homework (Galloway 3). Excessive Homework can cause a variety of health problems and "Studies that have explored the relation between homework and well–being indicate that number of hours of homework is negatively associated with psychological well–being, physical health symptoms, and sleep." and these health issues can be very detrimental to students (Galloway 4). According to Galloway a "study of 1,457 students...found that academic demands [were the main reason] students gave for their sleep–deprivation." and a lack of sleep can be detrimental to learning and engagement in school. A study of Australian high school students showed that doing more homework led to "more mood disturbance (...and fatigue) (Galloway 4). More time spent doing homework, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Suicide Prevention Why should anyone care about someone's life beyond their own? It seems like common sense. People should value human life just like they value their own but with the rate of suicide, it's clear they don't. Suicide is the act or instance of taking one's own life voluntarily (Merriam–Webster, n/a.) Suicide prevention has not been viewed as something valuable to fund and that's contributing to the rate of suicide today. People need to care simply because people are dying. People are taking their own lives because the value place on mental health is not considered as high as the value placed on physical health. Not many people are ending their own lives because of a broken leg, but because their mental health is so invasive and painful they can no longer deal with the burden of living with it. Humanity can move forward in helping the mentally ill by looking at the statistics and providing active methods to help them. Each year 34,598 people die by suicide. That balances out to an average of 94 suicides a day. (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) Those are just completed suicides, where it ends in death. 864,960 suicides are attempted a year. This means that every 38 seconds, one person attempts suicide. (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) People are attempting to end their lives at an alarming high rate each and every day. Because of this, suicide ranks as the eleventh leading cause of death across all ages (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) In fact, more people are dying from suicide than homicide. So each year 34,598 completed suicides take place. In comparison to that, only 18,361 homicides take place each year (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) Both are absolutely devastating but only one can possibly be prevented. Homicides tend to be isolated, unpredictable events with nothing visible leading up to them so there's no method of preventing them. However, with suicide, occasionally there are warning signs and when noticed, preventive action can take place. Suicide on college campuses is a growing issue. The rate of suicide of college campuses is .5 and 7.5 per 100,000 among college students (Suicide Statistics, n/a.) There are more than 1,000 completed suicides per year on college campuses. (Suicide Statistics, n/a) Suicide may only be the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Hypertension Once your doctor has determined that you have hypertension, there are several things you can do to help yourself. If you smoke, stop. If you're overweight, just losing 10 to 20 pounds will often significantly lower your blood pressure. An aerobic exercise program, if practiced regularly for at least 20 minutes three times a week, will also help bring blood pressure down. Avoid heavy weight training and isometric exercises, which can increase blood pressure. Limit the amount of salt in your diet. Reduce your alcohol consumption to at most two drinks a day or eliminate alcohol from your diet completely. If stress contributes to your hypertension, learning a relaxation technique practicing it regularly may help keep your blood pressure within bounds. If your doctor has prescribed antihypertension medication for you, don't forget to take it....show more content... Does that mean everyone should take a dally aspirin? Along with reducing pain, lowering fever, and relieving inflammation, aspirin also blocks certain clotting factors in the blood. For this reason many physicians recommend that patients with a high risk of heart attack and stroke take one aspirin tablet (325 milligrams) daily or every other day as a form of preventive medicine. At least two major studies have indicated that at this low dosage aspirin can actually reduce by half the risk of heart attack in healthy, middle–aged men as well as lower the risk of a second stroke or a second heart attack by 25 to 50 percent. A more recent study shows that women, too, may benefit from aspirin the raby. Another study of aspirin's blood–thinning properties involved patients with a heartbeat irregularity called atrial fibrillation that afflicts more than a million Americans. Test results suggest that daily doses of a single aspirin tablet (or another blood–thinning drug called warfarin) reduce stroke risk in both men and women patients by 80 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Essay On Parking Adam complains about parking at least three time a day. He is late to economics class every Tuesday and Thursday, and Professor Willis simply cannot take it anymore. Professor Willis told Adam that he needs to wake up earlier in order to get a spot on campus, but sleep is vital to all college students. Sleep should not be compensated for the time to find parking. Adelphi should instead listen to the proposal in this essay, which deals with the plan of action to create more parking spots on campus. Spots are limited, and Adam is not alone. There is a large number of people who have a problem finding a parking spot. Parking is the number one problem on campus for both residents and commuters and a solution is needed. Adelphi has the money and power to create more parking spots on campus by extending both of the underground parking lots. The benefits of extending the underground parking lots will allow for Adelphi to cut down on their shuttle service, permit all students to park on campus, and for less accidents to occur. Some argue that the extension of both underground parking lots will cost a lot of money, and they are not wrong. It will cost millions of dollars to renovate both parking lots, but the benefits will most certainly outweigh the costs and save money for the university in the long run. Extending the parking lots will require materials, workers, and require for certain parts of the campus to be shut down. This will of course create major chaos during the time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
