College Admissions Essay: My Hope For Success
Freshman year, oh what a time that is! I was so excited coming into freshman year. I'll meet new
friends and be able see some of my closest friends that are already in high school. When I first
walked into my first class, Drivers Ed, I was ready for school to begin. After that first class, I was a
little scared. I had hopes before school, and now I have fears at the end of my first day. My hopes
and fears of freshman year will impact my future. I have many hopes and fears about school and
about life, but I mostly hope for success and becoming an NBA player. My greatest fear is not
graduating high school in four years.I have many fears, but I never stop trying to succeed and reach
my goals.. Success is something everyone hopes and dreams of having, whether it's about career,
love life, family, etc. Failures in the past also make me want to have success in high school and
after that. Being unsuccessful is like losing games to me. I've lost so many games in my lifetime,
but you won't win every game. Most of those games motivated me that urge me of having success
in the future. I also HATE losing! That will always be at the top of my hate list. Now I may hate
losing and hope for success, but if I don't graduate then I can't be successful....show more content...
If I don't graduate within four years then it looks bad when I head to college. Colleges look at that,
and it's not going to help if I'm in high school for five or more years. You should always do your
best no matter where you are. If I don't graduate, then it means I don't succeed which is one of my
hopes. If I don't graduate within four years then it would really ruin everything I have ever
wanted. It means it would be tough to go college which then takes out my chances of being an
NBA player which then takes out the success. Graduating is a big achievement that everyone needs
to do. Now if I do graduate, it will make my chances to get to the NBA a lot

College Admissions Essay College is a very important time in anyone's life. It's a time where boys
and girls turn into men and women. It's a time where people learn valuable life skills, and how to
live on their own. Choosing the right college is an incredibly important decision. Colleges come
in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, specialties and strong points, as well as cultures and diversities.
As a senior that will soon be on my way to a college is campus, it is vital for me to figure how I will
fit in with the rest of the student body. As a human I have a unique mindset, just like everyone else,
complete with values and morals that differ from everyone else's. I also have a unique high school

There are a lot of negative Nancy's out there and I try to be a positive Paul so to speak. I do my best
to keep a smile on my face and make my peers laugh, even if I am not feeling so well myself. I
believe life is a lot easier with a smile on your face and so I try to be that person every day;
smiling, joking, laughing, and trying to make others happy. I try to make a conscious effort to help
out people by holding doors, helping people carry stuff, and helping with academic studies
whenever possible. I believe this is the best way for me to be a positive influence on those around

In fall of 2017, I will be attending college. I'm not quite sure where precisely, but when I do arrive
on campus, I will not be alone. I will carry the weight of my mother's ambitions with me.
My mom grew up the youngest of seven children in a house that never stopped moving. Her two
parents worked to support their children for eighteen years, and then kicked them out of nest into
the real world. None of her siblings pursued a degree in higher education. Ever since she was
eighteen, my mother has worked to support herself. Some may see it as a coincidence that all of her
jobs involved helping people– from taking statements from victims for the prosecutor's office to
helping elementary school special needs students. She always wants to help people better
themselves, and her own daughter is no exception. My earliest childhood memories are of her
reading Goodnight Moon and other stories to me until I fell asleep. It was with her that I took
constant trips to the library, and it was with her that I fostered a spark for reading and learning that
has yet to dull....show more content...
She never understood why my schedule was crammed with extracurriculars, a job, and sports.
Truthfully, I never expected her to understand. Both of her parents attended boarding schools that
were closer to castles than high schools, followed by prestigious universities where they were
taught by the likes of Nobel Prize winners. The words "FAFSA" and "scholarship" were foreign to
them. It was easy for me to be jealous of her; I bussed tables for tips on holiday breaks while she
vacationed on white beaches in the Caribbean. However, I do not resent her for this fact. Coupled
with my mother's desire to see me attend college, watching my best friend and her family lavishly
summer in exotic locations has only inspired me more to excel in high school and eventually,

College Admissions Essay (Virtues/Admiration/Accomplishments)
Ever since my brother came back home from Illinois State University with many positive
comments about the college I have wanted to go there. He told me about all the different things
one can do there, and how easy it was to make friends. He also talked about how great all his
professors were. I was instantly intrigued by all the university has to offer in activities and academics.
I am a strong believer in academics and put it the number one priority when it comes to my life
considering it is the foundation for a successful career. Hard work and perseverance are my top
values in academics. I am a member of National Honors Society and was nominated as one of the top

I am a product of the American dream, my family has gone from moving around dangerous
neighborhoods and relying on my grandparents for food to working in fantastic positions and
sending three kids to college to pursue advanced professional degrees. I have experienced life from
both sides of the economic tracks. My life has made me open–minded and extremely independent.
Being part of my family has motivated me to always look for challenges. In the coming spring,
after I defend my thesis and graduate early in December, I am planning to solo hike the
Appalachian trail. A trek of 2,190 miles over the course of four or five months will provide me
with the solitude and time for thinking that I will need to prepare for my next phase of life. I look

The potential of furthering the development of my abilities in the outstanding atmosphere of

students transition to living in center city Philadelphia. I am particularly excited about attending
Jefferson because of the exciting new patient–centered curriculum. The focus on interpersonal skills

Sidney Kimmel Medical School alumni. During my time spent shadowing, I observed the most

Since I was young, I loved to hang out with kids, and I liked to teach them and play or talk to
them. I thought that their love for knowledge was amazing and it taught me to be more curious
and to ask more questions. I felt nervous every time I was around them, but as time went, I got
more and more comfortable around kids. I wanted to babysit them at first, so I took a course in
Vancouver, Canada and I got a certificate with my friend!
Ever since then, my interest in teaching only grew and grew. When I was in high school, I helped my
juniors with their studies and also helped them concentrate if they ever needed help with that, also
explained concepts. Ever since then, I always dreamed about doing it as a profession, because

Penn State has always been my dream college to attend, two of my family members attended this
college and graduated with their dreams accomplished. Following in their footsteps I will be as

I started off this new school year lifestyle during 10th grade, this school was lenient with their
rules and treated everyone as if they were adults compared to my old school which did not even
allow students to use the restroom. I slowly learned my way around the building and seen how
many opportunities there was to come but as the year went on I started to see a change in how
people looked at me and treated me, I had no friends or help with my classes when I struggled, I
had gotten suspended for simply being late to school and on my walks home had trash being
thrown at me while being yelled at with several racial remarks, I sat at lunch by myself and was
avoided by people in school. I fell into a deep depression where my life just became school and
work, there would be days where I would not speak at all; months went by and I attempted to bd

fall apart as I did. I eventually transferred back to my original highschool and carried my hateful

My College Entrance Exam Essay
As the only child of an official and a professor of Politics Department, I was advised by my
parents to choose Art rather than Science when I was in high school, but I insisted on studying
science regardless of their rejection. Then after the college entrance exam, I was strongly advised
to major in economy because my parents felt that will make me live an easier life. However, I
rejected again and insisted to go to the Physics and Microelectronics department to study the most
difficult subjects. Afterwards in my third year of college, my parents wish I can continue my graduate
study in the top university in China. But I dreamed to continue my science study in America, where
technology is most advanced and turned down the opportunity of the postgraduate recommendation
in China. I didn't follow my parents' advice and kept following my heart because of my true
interest in science. I have always been working hard toward the best of it and my dream was
becoming increasingly definite as time went by. After three years in the university, my dream was
provided with a definite direction––it is doing research on science and engineering that I really
desire to pursue. Here I want to give some details about the process of the establishment of my
dream and the building up of my relevant ability in the past three years.
In my first year at university, I perused books that were concerned with physics and
microelectronics. My effort was rewarded because I gained basic knowledge on

College, up until my sophomore year of high school, had always been portrayed in my own mind as
an overly enthusiastic and admittedly frighteningly picture–perfect environment. It was, for some
reason, a faraway land with smooth sidewalks and clean landscapes, smiling students and animated
professors, cozy (albeit messy) dorm rooms and fashion–forward backpacks. The word itself meant
immensely more than four years of hard work and the opportunity of earning a degree. It represented
an era of independence, something I'd never truly tasted before, and of freedom to learn and to grow,
to create and nurture relationships that would last a lifetime, and to be myself without the polarizing
judgment that came along with growing up in a tight–knit...show more content...
College wasn't a place to experience any kind of social blossoming or personal reawakening. It
was somewhere I would study furiously and learn feverishly. It was somewhere I would gain the
knowledge and the skill to obtain and preserve a stable career. I could mention something
unbelievably cheesy about how the downfall of own mother inspired me to better myself and
that's why I decided to enroll in a major university, such as UGA. That just wouldn't be the whole
truth. The downfall of my own mom scared me to the point of focusing on absolutely nothing but
succeeding scholastically in order to acquire even an inch of future solidity. There would be no
risky endeavors, no questionable decisions, no time to waste or invest in frivolous events like
Greek Row parties or hall socials. College became an impending requirement instead of what once

College Readiness Essay
Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good
candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for
students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate.
According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009), to about 83 percent ofhigh school graduates
enroll in some form of postsecondary education, but only about 52 percent of students complete their
degrees. Further, a very small proportion of students complete a degree in four years–"among
students starting at 'four–year' institutions, only 34 percent finish a B.A. in four years, 64 percent
within six years, and 69 percent within eight and a half years."...show more content...
According to David Conley, readiness for college contains four key principles: key cognitive
strategies, key content knowledge, key self management skills, key knowledge about post and
secondary education. Although college readiness can be measured sing ACT andSATscores, which
developed a college readiness benchmarks to see whether a prospective college student has a
high prospect of success in college courses of English, social sciences, Algebra and biology.
However, if your test scores are not meeting the typical benchmarked standard does that truly
determine I you are ready for college. No. One thing we have to take under deep consideration is
that each student is different and some don't test very well. What happens to a child who has a
really good GPA, high determination and a low test score? College recruits deem that these
children are not college ready. College readiness should be measured with a more natural eye,
because some students may not be good in particular subject areas, however, what would be the
likeness of high school students completing and earning a degree in a field that they enjoy. The
nature of humans is to do things that they enjoy, to read stories that they can relate too, to complete
a task that means a lot to them. This is the natural eye that we should look at college readiness with.
How determined and passionate are the students on furthering their education. How

I was introduced to key theories of race and ethnicity including Colorblind Ideology, Racial

the criminal justice system, immigration policy, and the media.
Colorblind racism emerged as a new racial ideology in the late 1960s, concomitantly with the
crystallization of new racism as America's novel racial structure. New racism practices are more
sophisticated and subtle; the white supremacy in the US (the racial structure of America) has
changed – new racism practices are as effective as the old ones in maintaining the racial status quo.
Some colorblind racism frames include abstract liberalism, naturalization, cultural racism, and

College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Student
We all go through hard things in our lives. Some of these changes alter the way we live negatively
while others bring around great positive change. I have gone through one of these changes and I
believe I have greatly progressed as a person from it. I came here from Iran, speaking very little
English and I believe myself to be relatively fluent now. I came to Trade Tech to learn more about
my passion, chemistry. In Iran, I graduated from a pre–university with the equivalent of an
Associates Degree in Chemistry. Here, at Trade Tech, I am double majoring in Chemistry and Math

my professor, Mr. David Jeffress, despite my already heavy work load of 13 units. I hope this
level of work will prepare me for my future job. I want to work at 3M for the majority of my

high, I want an outstanding GPA before I graduate. I have found great joy in learning about
electrolysis and other electric based chemistry reactions. I have also found titration, a mixture of

later on in my career. I think that the things I learn in school now will act as a foundation for the
chemistry that I will learn from my job. And perhaps I will find something that no one else

College Admissions Essay: My Passion
When people would say "My hobby is this," or "My passion is that," I would wonder how he or
she found an activity that they could completely devote themselves to. I always thought that I would
immediately know what my passion or hobby was when I encountered it. For me, it happened to be
music. My passion for music, however, didn't come immediately; music wasn't something that I said
to myself, "This is it. I've found my passion in life." The piano wasn't like that at all.
When I started to play the piano, you could say that I wasn't its biggest fan. In fact, I hated it. I
remember my eyes swimming across the page, lost in a sea of little black dots. I mumbled endless
mnemonic tricks to try to read the notes. Every single part of your body is engaged to make that

without using any memorization tools, and, I actually began to enjoy my practice. Now, at
fifteen, nobody has to force me to practice anymore. Out of my own accord, I take several hours
out of every day to pursue this art that I've been chasing for ten years. I enjoy it, I live in it, and it

The Problems With College-Entrance Testing Essay
One of the most stressful experiences for a high school senior is the search for the college. So
once these senior students finally develop a plan, why is it that they may not be able to achieve
what they desire? Colleges and universities today are becoming more and more competitive,
sometimes to the point of exclusive. With that it is fair to say that entrance to certain schools may be
more difficult and extensive than the others based on popularity and demand. When this happens,
colleges are looking for the best of the best in academics, the student who will represent and be the
best for their institution. So what is the determining factor for college acceptance for students? The
most accurate answer would be standardized...show more content...
Since it is almost impossible to have any one–on–one work with students, the students at the low end
of the spectrum will have the most amount of time, if any, to work individually with teachers. This
leaves the advanced students unchallenged with the same tasks that they have already mastered.
Teaching to a test results in multiple disadvantages for students. Educators also know that certain
curriculum will be on these tests, so that is what will be focused on in the classrooms. The
curriculum for these tests limits teachers on what they are allowed to teach as well as anything they
can teach outside of the core curriculum. The core curriculum being taught is what will be found on
standardized tests. When teachers have to stress these core subjects, they are not able to teach any
additional material that they would like to. Students will not have the opportunity to learn about
astronomy, for example, because they are too occupied with memorizing elements of scientific
formulas. While it is important that students have an exceptional knowledge of core curriculum,
they should not be limited to just that. Electives and advanced classes are options for students who
already have a decent grasp on core curriculum and want to broaden their education. However,
standards for these advanced classes are being limited and making educators go over the same
curriculum again to improve test scores even more. For example,

A pervasive issue in education today is the college entrance exams. There are several college exams
used in the United States and around the world. These include the SAT, the ACT and many other
various versions of those tests. These tests are an unfair and ineffective measure to determine a
student's acceptance into college. These tests to do not measure a student's ability to master a
subject rather they measure aptitude which is ineffective. Not only do students need to achieve
academically, but they are also advised to have extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.

there are many issues such as anxiety with tests, students with ADD, and those students who are
given more than the allotted time to take these tests. Many students have anxiety problems when it
comes time to taking even just regular tests. The SAT is not just a regular psychologytest that you
can study, make note cards, and memorize for. It is a combination of academic ideas, and the
pressure of getting a high score to be accepted into a college doesn't lessen the anxiety. John
Katzman, president and founder of the Princeton review, wrote a letter about the anxiety of the
SAT and how "Students are anxious not because we rile them up but because this arbitrary ordeal
will largely determine where they spend their next four years". (Katzman, 2004). Some researchers
even think that, "the uses of the SAT, along with other descriptive and comparative uses, are
presumably secondary to the SAT's unique contribution in the prediction of college
grades."(Fincher, 1974). This is basically saying that the purpose of the SAT does not really have a
purpose. The University of California's Chief of faculty fully supports banning the SAT. He stated
that, "Students don't know how to study for the SAT, instead they shell out $100

The Past, Present and Future One important thing that I think is essential to becoming a better
person is obviously growth. As young as I am, I have been through numerous personality changes
and social changes and I am hoping and willingly to experience more changes. In the past I have
been very quiet and conservative in my thinking and in my being as a person. I gave very little space
for change and I didn't want to open up to a lot of things or people. I really did not know who I was

Country Day environment was very difficult to do. I didn't understand the social scene and I

  • 1. College Admissions Essay: My Hope For Success Freshman year, oh what a time that is! I was so excited coming into freshman year. I'll meet new friends and be able see some of my closest friends that are already in high school. When I first walked into my first class, Drivers Ed, I was ready for school to begin. After that first class, I was a little scared. I had hopes before school, and now I have fears at the end of my first day. My hopes and fears of freshman year will impact my future. I have many hopes and fears about school and about life, but I mostly hope for success and becoming an NBA player. My greatest fear is not graduating high school in four years.I have many fears, but I never stop trying to succeed and reach my goals.. Success is something everyone hopes and dreams of having, whether it's about career, love life, family, etc. Failures in the past also make me want to have success in high school and after that. Being unsuccessful is like losing games to me. I've lost so many games in my lifetime, but you won't win every game. Most of those games motivated me that urge me of having success in the future. I also HATE losing! That will always be at the top of my hate list. Now I may hate losing and hope for success, but if I don't graduate then I can't be successful....show more content... If I don't graduate within four years then it looks bad when I head to college. Colleges look at that, and it's not going to help if I'm in high school for five or more years. You should always do your best no matter where you are. If I don't graduate, then it means I don't succeed which is one of my hopes. If I don't graduate within four years then it would really ruin everything I have ever wanted. It means it would be tough to go college which then takes out my chances of being an NBA player which then takes out the success. Graduating is a big achievement that everyone needs to do. Now if I do graduate, it will make my chances to get to the NBA a lot Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. College Admissions Essay College Admissions Essay College is a very important time in anyone's life. It's a time where boys and girls turn into men and women. It's a time where people learn valuable life skills, and how to live on their own. Choosing the right college is an incredibly important decision. Colleges come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, specialties and strong points, as well as cultures and diversities. As a senior that will soon be on my way to a college is campus, it is vital for me to figure how I will fit in with the rest of the student body. As a human I have a unique mindset, just like everyone else, complete with values and morals that differ from everyone else's. I also have a unique high school repertoire which encompasses many of my academic...show more content... There are a lot of negative Nancy's out there and I try to be a positive Paul so to speak. I believe life is a lot easier with a smile on your face and so I try to be that person every day; smiling, joking, laughing, and trying to make others happy. I try to make a conscious effort to help out people by holding doors, helping people carry stuff, and helping with academic studies whenever possible. • 3. In fall of 2017, I will be attending college. I'm not quite sure where precisely, but when I do arrive on campus, I will not be alone. I will carry the weight of my mother's ambitions with me. My mom grew up the youngest of seven children in a house that never stopped moving. Her two parents worked to support their children for eighteen years, and then kicked them out of nest into the real world. None of her siblings pursued a degree in higher education. Ever since she was eighteen, my mother has worked to support herself. Some may see it as a coincidence that all of her jobs involved helping people– from taking statements from victims for the prosecutor's office to helping elementary school special needs students. She always wants to help people better themselves, and her own daughter is no exception. My earliest childhood memories are of her reading Goodnight Moon and other stories to me until I fell asleep. It was with her that I took constant trips to the library, and it was with her that I fostered a spark for reading and learning that has yet to dull....show more content... She never understood why my schedule was crammed with extracurriculars, a job, and sports. Truthfully, I never expected her to understand. Both of her parents attended boarding schools that were closer to castles than high schools, followed by prestigious universities where they were taught by the likes of Nobel Prize winners. The words "FAFSA" and "scholarship" were foreign to them. It was easy for me to be jealous of her; I bussed tables for tips on holiday breaks while she vacationed on white beaches in the Caribbean. However, I do not resent her for this fact. Coupled with my mother's desire to see me attend college, watching my best friend and her family lavishly summer in exotic locations has only inspired me more to excel in high school and eventually, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Statement: College Admissions College Admissions Essay (Virtues/Admiration/Accomplishments) Ever since my brother came back home from Illinois State University with many positive comments about the college I have wanted to go there. He told me about all the different things one can do there, and how easy it was to make friends. He also talked about how great all his professors were. I was instantly intrigued by all the university has to offer in activities and academics. I am a strong believer in academics and put it the number one priority when it comes to my life considering it is the foundation for a successful career. Hard work and perseverance are my top values in academics. I am a member of National Honors Society and was nominated as one of the top ten math students Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Admission Essay For College Application I am a product of the American dream, my family has gone from moving around dangerous neighborhoods and relying on my grandparents for food to working in fantastic positions and sending three kids to college to pursue advanced professional degrees. I have experienced life from both sides of the economic tracks. My life has made me open–minded and extremely independent. Being part of my family has motivated me to always look for challenges. In the coming spring, after I defend my thesis and graduate early in December, I am planning to solo hike the Appalachian trail. A trek of 2,190 miles over the course of four or five months will provide me with the solitude and time for thinking that I will need to prepare for my next phase of life. The potential of furthering the development of my abilities in the outstanding atmosphere of scholarship and community at Jefferson represents a tremendous opportunity. Attending medical school in Philadelphia has always been a dream. As an anatomy lab partner with an incoming medical student, I have only heard positive things about Jefferson and the school's process of helping students transition to living in center city Philadelphia. I am particularly excited about attending Jefferson because of the exciting new patient–centered curriculum. The focus on interpersonal skills and developing relationships will certainly be appreciated by graduates and patients treated by Sidney Kimmel Medical School alumni. During my time spent shadowing, I observed the most apparent difference between medical students, residents, and attendings was their respective abilities to navigate the social aspects of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I thought that their love for knowledge was amazing and it taught me to be more curious and to ask more questions. I felt nervous every time I was around them, but as time went, I got more and more comfortable around kids. I wanted to babysit them at first, so I took a course in Vancouver, Canada and I got a certificate with my friend! Ever since then, my interest in teaching only grew and grew. When I was in high school, I helped my juniors with their studies and also helped them concentrate if they ever needed help with that, also explained concepts. I started off this new school year lifestyle during 10th grade, this school was lenient with their rules and treated everyone as if they were adults compared to my old school which did not even allow students to use the restroom. • 8. My College Entrance Exam Essay As the only child of an official and a professor of Politics Department, I was advised by my parents to choose Art rather than Science when I was in high school, but I insisted on studying science regardless of their rejection. Then after the college entrance exam, I was strongly advised to major in economy because my parents felt that will make me live an easier life. However, I rejected again and insisted to go to the Physics and Microelectronics department to study the most difficult subjects. Afterwards in my third year of college, my parents wish I can continue my graduate study in the top university in China. But I dreamed to continue my science study in America, where technology is most advanced and turned down the opportunity of the postgraduate recommendation in China. I didn't follow my parents' advice and kept following my heart because of my true interest in science. I have always been working hard toward the best of it and my dream was becoming increasingly definite as time went by. After three years in the university, my dream was provided with a definite direction––it is doing research on science and engineering that I really desire to pursue. Here I want to give some details about the process of the establishment of my dream and the building up of my relevant ability in the past three years. In my first year at university, I perused books that were concerned with physics and microelectronics. My effort was rewarded because I gained basic knowledge on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. College Admission Essay College, up until my sophomore year of high school, had always been portrayed in my own mind as an overly enthusiastic and admittedly frighteningly picture–perfect environment. It was, for some reason, a faraway land with smooth sidewalks and clean landscapes, smiling students and animated professors, cozy (albeit messy) dorm rooms and fashion–forward backpacks. The word itself meant immensely more than four years of hard work and the opportunity of earning a degree. It represented an era of independence, something I'd never truly tasted before, and of freedom to learn and to grow, to create and nurture relationships that would last a lifetime, and to be myself without the polarizing judgment that came along with growing up in a tight–knit...show more content... College wasn't a place to experience any kind of social blossoming or personal reawakening. It was somewhere I would study furiously and learn feverishly. It was somewhere I would gain the knowledge and the skill to obtain and preserve a stable career. I could mention something unbelievably cheesy about how the downfall of own mother inspired me to better myself and that's why I decided to enroll in a major university, such as UGA. That just wouldn't be the whole truth. The downfall of my own mom scared me to the point of focusing on absolutely nothing but succeeding scholastically in order to acquire even an inch of future solidity. There would be no risky endeavors, no questionable decisions, no time to waste or invest in frivolous events like Greek Row parties or hall socials. • 10. College Readiness Essay Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate. According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009), to about 83 percent ofhigh school graduates enroll in some form of postsecondary education, but only about 52 percent of students complete their degrees. Further, a very small proportion of students complete a degree in four years–"among students starting at 'four–year' institutions, only 34 percent finish a B.A. in four years, 64 percent within six years, and 69 percent within eight and a half years."...show more content... According to David Conley, readiness for college contains four key principles: key cognitive strategies, key content knowledge, key self management skills, key knowledge about post and secondary education. Although college readiness can be measured sing ACT andSATscores, which developed a college readiness benchmarks to see whether a prospective college student has a high prospect of success in college courses of English, social sciences, Algebra and biology. However, if your test scores are not meeting the typical benchmarked standard does that truly determine I you are ready for college. No. One thing we have to take under deep consideration is that each student is different and some don't test very well. What happens to a child who has a really good GPA, high determination and a low test score? College recruits deem that these children are not college ready. College readiness should be measured with a more natural eye, because some students may not be good in particular subject areas, however, what would be the likeness of high school students completing and earning a degree in a field that they enjoy. The nature of humans is to do things that they enjoy, to read stories that they can relate too, to complete a task that means a lot to them. This is the natural eye that we should look at college readiness with. How determined and passionate are the students on furthering their education. How Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Student We all go through hard things in our lives. Some of these changes alter the way we live negatively while others bring around great positive change. I have gone through one of these changes and I believe I have greatly progressed as a person from it. I came here from Iran, speaking very little English and I believe myself to be relatively fluent now. I came to Trade Tech to learn more about my passion, chemistry. In Iran, I graduated from a pre–university with the equivalent of an Associates Degree in Chemistry. Here, at Trade Tech, I am double majoring in Chemistry and Math and hope to earn an Associates Degree in Chemistry and transfering to a UC or Ivy League college. The greatest hardships I had to overcome, and still overcoming, are the language barrier, cultural differences,...show more content... I regularly volunteer as a lab assistant for my professor, Mr. David Jeffress, despite my already heavy work load of 13 units. I hope this level of work will prepare me for my future job. I want to work at 3M for the majority of my career end become a teacher of chemistry toward the end. Though my GPA of 3.80 is relatively high, I want an outstanding GPA before I graduate. I have found great joy in learning about electrolysis and other electric based chemistry reactions. I have also found titration, a mixture of concentrations, to be equally enjoyable. I know that what I learn now will be of a great help to me later on in my career. I think that the things I learn in school now will act as a foundation for the chemistry that I will learn from my job. • 14. College Admissions Essay: My Passion When people would say "My hobby is this," or "My passion is that," I would wonder how he or she found an activity that they could completely devote themselves to. I always thought that I would immediately know what my passion or hobby was when I encountered it. For me, it happened to be music. My passion for music, however, didn't come immediately; music wasn't something that I said to myself, "This is it. I've found my passion in life." The piano wasn't like that at all. When I started to play the piano, you could say that I wasn't its biggest fan. In fact, I hated it. I remember my eyes swimming across the page, lost in a sea of little black dots. I mumbled endless mnemonic tricks to try to read the notes. Now, at fifteen, nobody has to force me to practice anymore. Out of my own accord, I take several hours out of every day to pursue this art that I've been chasing for ten years. I enjoy it, I live in it, and it has become an inseparable part of me. This art has taken me places and introduced me to people I would never have met without music. • 15. The Problems With College-Entrance Testing Essay One of the most stressful experiences for a high school senior is the search for the college. So once these senior students finally develop a plan, why is it that they may not be able to achieve what they desire? Colleges and universities today are becoming more and more competitive, sometimes to the point of exclusive. With that it is fair to say that entrance to certain schools may be more difficult and extensive than the others based on popularity and demand. When this happens, colleges are looking for the best of the best in academics, the student who will represent and be the best for their institution. So what is the determining factor for college acceptance for students? The most accurate answer would be standardized...show more content... Since it is almost impossible to have any one–on–one work with students, the students at the low end of the spectrum will have the most amount of time, if any, to work individually with teachers. This leaves the advanced students unchallenged with the same tasks that they have already mastered. Teaching to a test results in multiple disadvantages for students. Educators also know that certain curriculum will be on these tests, so that is what will be focused on in the classrooms. The curriculum for these tests limits teachers on what they are allowed to teach as well as anything they can teach outside of the core curriculum. The core curriculum being taught is what will be found on standardized tests. When teachers have to stress these core subjects, they are not able to teach any additional material that they would like to. Students will not have the opportunity to learn about astronomy, for example, because they are too occupied with memorizing elements of scientific formulas. While it is important that students have an exceptional knowledge of core curriculum, they should not be limited to just that. Electives and advanced classes are options for students who already have a decent grasp on core curriculum and want to broaden their education. However, standards for these advanced classes are being limited and making educators go over the same curriculum again to improve test scores even more. I realized that I was doing the right thing by furthering my education so that once I finally did know what career I wanted to pursue I would then have a degree to help me stand out. Once more, Dr. Reed convincing me to pursue a degree in Communication is one of the best pieces of advice I acquired during my undergraduate career, if not ever. I most likely would not have the confidence I currently have in obtaining a degree that I have no idea what I am going to with once I graduate. Furthermore, my undergraduate career really prepared me for anything that comes my way. It had prepared me to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. College Admission Essay Discovering and choosing a college that best suits my needs was a rigorous yet thrilling task. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising clearly came forth as the best choice for me to further my education in design. Being unable to visit the college campus, as I live in New York, I've done lots and lots of research about FIDM, and I realize the institute offers what I hope to gain from my college experience. I've been very interested in Interior Design for a few years and FIDM stands out as the prime institution to gain the knowledge to be a successful designer. As a prospective student of FIDM, I'm expecting to receive the information and resources to become a successful individual in the design community. While attending the college I...show more content... I'm the polar opposite. I've known for quite some time what I've wanted to do after high school as interior design has been something I've loved for quite some time. With interior design, you have the ability to completely alter someone's life by designing a room or some sort of space for them. At FIDM I would work closely amongst others studying in interior design or other similar majors to take full advantage of my education. With the college being strategically located in the heart of Los Angeles, I would have lots and lots of resources and opportunities as an interior design student and I hope to put them all to great use. After completing my 4–year bachelor's degree I hope to delve right into a job in the interior design/decorating field. Taking advantage of my location, there will be a lot of opportunities job related for me. In 10 or so years I would love to own my own design firm or decorating business, and to be a very successful alumnus of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. • 18. A pervasive issue in education today is the college entrance exams. There are several college exams used in the United States and around the world. These include the SAT, the ACT and many other various versions of those tests. These tests are an unfair and ineffective measure to determine a student's acceptance into college. These tests to do not measure a student's ability to master a subject rather they measure aptitude which is ineffective. Not only do students need to achieve academically, but they are also advised to have extracurricular activities outside of the classroom. Race and gender also play a huge role in acceptance letters to universities forcing the acceptances to be unfair. College entrance exams do not identify whether a...show more content... Hardly a ringing endorsement for the effectiveness of SAT's" (guardian, 2007). For some students, there are many issues such as anxiety with tests, students with ADD, and those students who are given more than the allotted time to take these tests. Many students have anxiety problems when it comes time to taking even just regular tests. The SAT is not just a regular psychologytest that you can study, make note cards, and memorize for. It is a combination of academic ideas, and the pressure of getting a high score to be accepted into a college doesn't lessen the anxiety. John Katzman, president and founder of the Princeton review, wrote a letter about the anxiety of the SAT and how "Students are anxious not because we rile them up but because this arbitrary ordeal will largely determine where they spend their next four years". (Katzman, 2004). Some researchers even think that, "the uses of the SAT, along with other descriptive and comparative uses, are presumably secondary to the SAT's unique contribution in the prediction of college grades."(Fincher, 1974). This is basically saying that the purpose of the SAT does not really have a purpose. The University of California's Chief of faculty fully supports banning the SAT. He stated that, "Students don't know how to study for the SAT, instead they shell out $100 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. The Past, Present and Future One important thing that I think is essential to becoming a better person is obviously growth. As young as I am, I have been through numerous personality changes and social changes and I am hoping and willingly to experience more changes. In the past I have been very quiet and conservative in my thinking and in my being as a person. I gave very little space for change and I didn't want to open up to a lot of things or people. I really did not know who I was or who I was to become and because of that I did not want to change. I wasn't very open to meeting new friends or even things as simple as trying a new flavor of ice–cream. Looking back I do not think I would be proud of who I was or even willingly to revert back to that person....show more content... It was an immense change from the person I used to be. I am very much so now open minded and very left–sided in my opinions and thoughts. However, though I think I have a very clear understanding of who I am, I am not sure in who I think I am. I have a lot more compassion for other people and even for myself. An aspect of myself that I am fairly proud of is my newfound ability to understand, interpret and adapt to certain situations. For instance, adapting to the Country Day environment was very difficult to do. I didn't understand the social scene and I could not get a handle on my academics. On top of high school being new for me, I had to deal with the newness of a school I hadn't attended before. That experience helped me learn how to adapt to new experiences. Also becoming socially and politically aware has helped me grow in put myself in a worldly view. I do appreciate who I am now and still hope to grow and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
