 Downtime for the system is estimated at $10 per minute.
 The direct on-site cost of the repairperson is $25 per hour.
 It takes 15 minutes to change one belt, 25 minutes to change two
belts, and 35 minutes to change three belts.
 The belts cost $18 each.
 A proposal has been made to replace all three belts whenever a
belt fails.

4. Question:
Calculate the overall cost of this system for 17,000 hours using
traditional approach and alternate approach. Based on the
calculation justify for this following scenario, which one is better
and why?

 Cost of belts = 39 belts × $18/belt = $702
 Cost of delay time = (110 + 110 + 85) minutes ×
$10/minute = $3050
 Cost of downtime during repair = 39 belts × 15
minutes/belt × $10/minute = $5850
 Cost of repairpersons = 39 belts × 15 minutes/belt ×
$25/60 minutes = $244
 Total cost = $702 + $3050 + $5850 + $244 = $9846

 Cost of belts = 45 belts × $18/belt = $810
 Cost of delay time = 105 minutes × $10/minute = $1050
 Cost of downtime during repair = 15 sets × 35
minutes/set × $10/minute = $5250
 Cost of repairpersons = 15 sets × 35 minutes/set ×
$25/60 minutes = $219
 Total cost = $810 + $1050 + $5250 + $219 = $7329
