Research And Planning
Looking into the Genre  Indie
•opening sequence is presented by the slow zoom in.
•high angle close -up of the artists face as I found this was a common occurrence in the videos I watched.
→conveys emotion which can connect more to the audience than a typical pop music video would. This was
inspired by the song ‘Heavy Stone’ by Kyla La Grange.

• The ancillary texts I have chosen to do is the
digipak and the promotional poster.
Common themes/ideas
• reoccurring photo for both as this makes it more
recognisable for the audience to pick out.
• Close up of artists face
• Reoccurring colours of black + white also
included red as the tone of the song is about
love
• The combination of the main product and the
ancillary texts I feel is effective as they reinforce
what the song is about

Audience Feedback
• After showing my video to a small group of people and asking them various questions
such as 'Does the video fit in with the tone of the song?'
'Is it what you expect to see in a typical indie song?'
'Do the lyrics and the video work well together?'
most of the feedback was encouraging and positive
as they liked the way I slowed down the fighting clip
and put it in black and white as they felt that it connected
with them and it connected with the song lyrics.
Improvement :
artist sing in different areas using different cameras angles as they thought it looked
‘flat’. Looking back at the video I also agree with this point however when analysing
videos for my genre they mostly kept the artist in the same place.
Media Technologies
When constructing my music video I used many media technologies. The mains ones being the camera and
the software Final Cut Express, this enabled me to film my video and edit it, and use transactions such as
fades which was essential for conveying a slow and sad mood.
Without these technologies
my A2 media coursework
would have been impossible.
Camera - hand held flip camera. The camera was of good quality
as it allowed me to zoom in and out where I needed to portray a
certain feeling.
For example at the start where there was a slow zoom on to the
artist conveying the feeling of melancholy and isolation.
• The internet
- allowed me to go on sites such as YouTube and look up songs in the genre of indie which I
could then analyse and apply to my own video.
-looking at other blogs to help me research further in what makes an effective music video.

• TV music stations such as MTV and 4 Music
• My blog also helped with the construction of my video as it allowed me to organise, plan and

- was an essential part in the filmmaking as it allowed me to keep the filming level, through the
tripod I was also able to pan at a steady rate.
