Challenge - Slow Steaming
Challenges:
•

Slow steaming has become order of the day

•

Yet most engines are not built for slowsteaming

•

Danger of over lubrication

•

At lower RPMs, cold corrosion is likely to happen,
unless the engine is equipped with cylinder
lubricators that are designed to meet slowsteaming
requirements

optimum balance between oil consumption and
cylinder liner wear:
• Lubtronic
• Mechtronic

Fresh cylinder oil with every piston stroke –
regardless of engine load (Fresh alcalinity)

Hans Jensen Lubricators have load regulations,
where consumption will adjust automatically when
load is changed

Stroke.

Cylinder liners on G-engines are more challenging to
lubricate adequately.

Prone to extensive wear due to the long distance
from injection point to TDC

Utilize scavenge air swirl to reach top of liner with Hans
Jensen SIP (swirl injection principle) lubrication system.

Injection of cylinder oil by high pressure.

Create uniform and stable oil film

•

One cylinder lubrication solution to fit all engine types –
Sulzer, MAN B&W and Mitsubishi

Challenge - New Regulations
Challenges:

All shipowners required to have a Ship Energy
Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).

•

Article 4.27 of the official IMO guideline for SEEMP
(ANNEX 19) states:

”Additional means to improve engine efficiency might
include […] Adjustment of cylinder lubrication oil
consumption…”
