Start By:
a. Remove the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter -
Remove".

1. Remove bolts (1) and relief valve (2).
2. Remove bolt (3) and retainer (4).

3. Remove O-ring seal (5) and yoke assembly (6).
4. Remove bolts (7) to remove bearing retainer (8).
5. Remove O-ring seals (9) from bearing retainer (8).

6. Remove seal (10) from bearing retainer (8).
7. Loosen nut (11).
8. Remove speed sensor (12) from bearing retainer (8).
9. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to torque
converter cover (13).
10. Invert the torque converter. The weight of the torque converter is approximately 340 kg
(750 lb).
11. Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (C).

12. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (D), and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (13).
13. Remove bolts (14) and torque converter cover (13). The weight of the torque converter
cover is approximately 125 kg (275 lb).
14. Remove O-ring seal (15) from torque converter cover (13).
15. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to output shaft (16).

16. Remove output shaft (16).
17. Remove seal ring (17) from ring carrier (18). Remove ring carrier (18) from output shaft
(16).
18. Remove bearing (19) from output shaft (16).
19. Remove bolts (20).

20. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to stator support (21).
21. Use Tooling (E) to remove stator support (21).
22. Remove O-ring seals (22) from stator support (21).
23. Remove spring pins (23) from stator support (21).
24. Remove seal ring (25) from seal carrier (24).
25. Remove seal carrier (24) from stator support (21).

26. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to stator carrier (26).
27. Remove bolts (27) and stator carrier (26) from rotating housing (28). The weight of stator
carrier (26) is approximately 61 kg (135 lb).
28. Remove bolts (33) from wear sleeve (30). Remove impeller (31).
29. Remove cap (34) from impeller (31).

30. Place the carrier assembly into a press. Remove retaining ring (35).
31. Use Tooling (F) to separate stator carrier (26) from stator (36).

32. Install Tooling (J) onto carrier (26). Install Tooling (J) and carrier (26) into a press.
33. Install Tooling (F) onto carrier (26). Remove bearing (29) from carrier (26). Remove
retaining ring (35) after bearing (29) has been removed.
34. Remove bolts (37) to remove cover (38) from rotating housing (28).

35. Remove retaining ring (39) from bearing (40).
36. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to rotating housing (28).
37. Remove rotating housing (28) from turbine (41). The weight of the rotating housing is
approximately 57 kg (125 lb).

38. Remove set screw (42) from locknut (43).
39. Use Tooling (H) to remove locknut (43) from retainer (44).
40. Remove lockwasher (45) from retainer (44).
41. Remove retainer (44) from turbine (41).

42. Remove bearing (40) from retainer (44).
43. Remove bolts (46).
44. Remove turbine (41) from hub (47).

1. Install turbine (41) onto hub (47).
2. Install bolts (46). Tighten bolts (46) to a torque of 120 ± 15 N·m (89 ± 11 lb ft).
3. Raise the temperature of bearing (40).
4. Install bearing (40) onto retainer (44).
5. Install retainer (44) onto turbine (41).

6. Install lockwasher (45) onto retainer (44).
7. Use Tooling (H) to install locknut (43) onto retainer (44). Tighten locknut (43) to a torque
of 985 ± 35 N·m (726 ± 26 lb ft).
8. Install set screw (42) into locknut (43).

9. Lower the temperature of turbine (41).
10. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to rotating housing (28).
11. Install rotating housing (28) onto turbine (41). The weight of the rotating housing is
12. Install retaining ring (39) onto bearing (40).

13. Install cover (38) and bolts (37) onto rotating housing (28).
14. Lower the temperature of stator carrier (26).
15. Install stator (36) onto stator carrier (26).
16. Install retaining ring (35) onto stator carrier (26).

17. Install impeller (32) onto stator carrier (26).
18. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (29).
19. Install bearing cone (29) onto stator carrier (26).
20. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (34).
21. Install bearing cup (34) from impeller flange (31).
22. Install impeller flange (31).
23. Install wear sleeve (30) and bolts (33). Tighten bolts (33) to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m
(89 ± 15 lb ft).

24. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to stator carrier (26).
25. Install the stator carrier onto rotating housing (28). The weight of the stator carrier is
27. Raise the temperature of seal carrier to a maximum temperature of 66 °C (150 °F).
28. Install seal carrier (24) onto stator support (21).
29. Install seal ring (25) onto seal carrier (24).
30. Install spring pins (23) onto stator support (21).

31. Install O-ring seals (22) onto stator support (21).
32. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to stator support (21).
33. Install stator support (21).

35. Raise temperature of bearing (19).
36. Install bearing (19) onto output shaft (16).
37. Install ring carrier (18) onto output shaft (16). Install seal ring (17) onto ring carrier (18).
38. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to output shaft (16).
39. Install output shaft (16).

40. Install O-ring seal (15) onto torque converter cover (13).
41. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (D), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device to torque
converter (13).
42. Install torque converter cover (13) and bolts (14). The weight of the torque converter cover
is approximately 125 kg (275 lb).
43. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to torque
converter cover (13).
44. Invert the torque converter. The weight of the torque converter is approximately 340 kg
(750 lb).

45. Use Tooling (F) to install seal (10) into bearing retainer (8).
46. Install speed sensor (12) and nut (11) onto bearing retainer (8). Do not tighten nut (11) now.
47. Install O-ring seals (9) onto bearing retainer (8).
48. Install bearing retainer (8) and bolts (7).

49. Install yoke assembly (6) and O-ring seal (5).
50. Install retainer (4) and bolt (3). Tighten bolt 3 to a torque of 240 ± 25 N·m (177 ± 18 lb ft).
51. Install speed sensor (12) until speed sensor (12) contacts the center of one of the teeth on
yoke assembly (6).
52. Loosen speed sensor (12) by half a turn.
53. Tighten nut (11) to a torque of 25 ± 5 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft).

54. Install relief valve (2) and bolts (1).
End By:
a. Install the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter -
Install".
