boundaries slightly or cause a company to have
second thoughts about you.

Skills and Qualities
A skill requires learning,
often acquired through
specialist training and
knowledge. It can be
loosely defined as the
‘what’ we can do well
A quality, on the other
hand, is more about
‘who’ we are as a
person; a distinctive
attribute or
characteristic
possessed by someone
or something.
What are
transferable skills?
Transferable skills are a core set of skills and abilities,
which can be applied to a wide range of different jobs and
industries. They're usually developed over time, and can
be gained from previous positions, charity or voluntary
work, your hobbies, or even just at home.
Meet Saniya, Clara, Charlie and Advik. They all worked as
Cabin Crew members but due to the pandemic the airline
they worked for was required to make some cuts and now
they’re out of a jobs!
What skills will they have developed in their job within the

A SWOT matrix is a framework for analyzing your
strengths and weaknesses as well as the
opportunities and threats that you face. This helps
you focus on your strengths, minimize your
weaknesses, and take the greatest possible
advantage of opportunities available to you

of the travel industry
• Not updated CV for a long period of
time
• Not applied for a job or had an
interview in numerous years
Threats
• Pandemic impacted travel industry
job roles
• Increased number of people
applying for roles advertised
Strengths
• All transferable skills highlighted
in previous slide
Opportunities
• New roles created from pandemic
(e.g. NHS)
• Changes to working practices (e.g.
working from home)

confidence and skills (e.g.

It can be loosely defined as the ‘what’ we can do well A quality, on the other hand, is more about ‘who’ we are as a person; a distinctive attribute or characteristic possessed by someone or something.
  • 9. What are transferable skills? Transferable skills are a core set of skills and abilities, which can be applied to a wide range of different jobs and industries. They're usually developed over time, and can be gained from previous positions, charity or voluntary work, your hobbies, or even just at home.
  • 10. Meet Saniya, Clara, Charlie and Advik. They all worked as Cabin Crew members but due to the pandemic the airline they worked for was required to make some cuts and now they’re out of a jobs! What skills will they have developed in their job within the travel industry, that can transferred into another role?

  • 12. What is a SWOT Analysis A SWOT matrix is a framework for analyzing your strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and threats that you face. This helps you focus on your strengths, minimize your weaknesses, and take the greatest possible advantage of opportunities available to you
