Being Asian Stereotypes Essay
Does this sound familiar: "How did you not get an A? You're so bad at being Asian!"?
If so, then you have heard a stereotype–– a (usually) funny, odd "fact" that you are most likely an expert on, given the amount of times you have heard
the different versions of it... but, have you ever stopped to think about what a stereotype is?
Stereotypes surround us everywhere we go; they are imbedded in our thoughts, conversations, and actions alike, and are simply regarded as "human
nature", but what if they are affecting us more than we think? Sometimes, they are so disguised or normal to us, that we forget what a stereotype really
is, or how it began. According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, a stereotype is "to believe unfairly that all people... Show more content on

As the dictionary said, a stereotype is "to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same"; so, if everyone tries to
learn about other cultures, those beliefs can be proven wrong, thus getting rid of the stereotype.
How can you learn about other cultures? There are many ways to learn about other cultures. Reading about other people, getting to know others,
traveling, and seeing pictures of other places are all great ways of opening up our eyes to the world around us. The many travel TV shows are a
more interactive way of learning, and can show more of the place's culture. Talking to local people who have certain backgrounds can be very useful
as well, because they most likely know the stereotypes and are willing to educate you on them in an understandable way.
In the end, stereotypes–– unfair beliefs that all people and things with a certain characteristic are the same–– will stay present until we work together to
open our eyes to the world around us. As hard as getting rid of the stereotypes that offend people and impact lives can be–– especially when they are
found everywhere from our homes to our schools–– by informing ourselves of other cultures, we can abolish them, and replace them with much needed

It's Time to Abolish The Penny! Essay
Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This increase displays economic problems that may
lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2% copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials
to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses. This meaningless coin is losing money for the
mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4 cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury.
Last year, the mint earned $730 million dollars in profit. Many mint officials claim the estimation will be about $45 million due to the cost ... Show

This averages to about 1210 pennies per person in the United States. These numbers are just simply preposterous. A majority of these Lincolns
have probably been trashed, thrown on the ground or located in unknown areas of homes and apartments. The penny is practically worthless to
many people in our country. In a Gallup Poll of 1,002 adults conducted from June 11 of this year displayed shocking results. Nearly 75% of those
adults would stop and pick a penny that is present on the ground. About 40% of men and 35% of women would walk passed a penny that is on any
type of surface. This poll also found that 58 percent of Americans stash their pennies in piggy banks, jars and drawers. Some Americans redeem their
cents at banks or coin–counting machines, but 2 percent admitted they toss them into the trash. They consider the penny a nuisance to many fellow
Americans. This sentiment has been growing through recent years. The penny is basically obsolete and should be removed from American currency.
Many penny supporters think there is not an inflation with the economy. The cent doesn't buy anything in today's market. It is merely a token used to
make odd change during cash purchases. The customer may have to use the, "Leave a penny, take a penny" bowl next to the cash register for correcting
the balance. The penny can be put back into the bowl if the customer doesn't accept the return of pennies. It is neater than throwing them on the ground

The Impact Of The Transatlantic Slavery On Liverpool
The Impact of Slavery on Liverpool
The transatlantic slave trade was undisputedly an imperative part of English history, and furthermore an essential foundation in shaping social
structures and economies. This was perhaps most notable in the city of Liverpool; a city, whose input into the slave trade managed to transcend it from
a small fishing town to one of the most renowned cities in the country. This essay will explore and contextualise the transnational slave trade within
Liverpool and its various intricacies; addressing both the social and economic factors of the use of slavery along with, inevitably, its abolition. The
essay will utilise and inspect a variety of sources cited from various eras, each providing a unique perspective that can be both explored, and applied
in a wider context to Liverpool's society and relevant ideologies, ergo addressing the question of the impact that slavery had unto the city of Liverpool.
Context to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and How it was Integrated into Liverpool:
The transatlantic slave trade was integrated into England amid the 16th century (with the first occurrence of the trade taking place in 1563.), where it
began to develop as one of the country's most lucrative trades. Nowhere was this more evident than in the case of Liverpool, a city that ascended into
prosperity from the spoils of the triangular trade.
One of the first instances of English slaving voyagers was that of John Hawkins, a Plymouth merchant who led some of

Abolish Penny
Americans have been using the penny every day for over 200 years, so how could Americans just abolish it now? The penny has been an important
part of our history in the United States. It still shows the face of Abraham Lincoln, a very important president, and civil rights activist who wrote the
Gettysburg Address, and abolished slavery. Abolishing the penny would lead to economic problems, and harm several charities in theUnited States. If
68% of American adults favor keeping the penny, then why abolish it? Plus, another 73% of Americans are afraid that if the penny were abolished, we
would lose millions of dollars to merchants due to rounding (Penny Charity). Americans should keep the penny to avoid many difficulties, and maintain

What would we do with the 250 billion pennies in circulation? That means that 2 to 2.5 billion dollars would be wasted, and worthless. 2.5 billion
dollars could be used to help several great causes. The average penny costs 1.67 cents to make so that means that approximately 417.5 billion
dollars will be wasted if we decide to abolish the penny (7 Penny Facts). That would make a substantial difference in the lives of many people.
Today to try to keep costs down the penny is made from 97.5% zinc and a little copper just for the appearance (Lewis). Many people that are against
the penny say that we should get rid of the penny because, "it costs more money to be produced than what the penny is actually worth." The truth
really would be that it wouldn't save the United States any money. An economic problem would actually arise (7 Penny Facts). What happens if you
go to the store and spend 5.01? You would end up getting charged 5.05 and the businesses would take the extra 4 cents. This small amount would
add up very quickly and everything would cost consumers more money each time you go to get gas, groceries, clothes, etc. More money would also
be put towards producing more nickels, dimes, quarters, or other paper bills because they would get used more often. Also, all of the cash registers
around the entire country would need to be re–programmed, due to not having the penny values. This would cost billions of dollars. So, abolishing the
penny would not save money but actually lead to a lot of other costs all related to abolishing

Externality Of Currency
All throughout history there have been a few different types of currency in America that have been taken out of the monetary cycle, such as the
half cent. The reasons were because the cost of the currency being produced was higher than the actual face value of the currency. As many
historians say, "history repeats itself" is because it actually has! In 2005 was when the penny finally reached the cost of one cent in order to produce
one penny. In 2011, it costed about 2.4 cents to make one penny. This was because the price of zinc increased, or the US dollar has gone down in
value. The penny would be considered a negative externality, because the US Mint keeps making the decision to keep producing them and they do not
have to pay the full cost of continuously producing the penny. This occurs, because the currency being produced comes from the US citizens taxes.
Since the penny is a negative externality, the cost to society is greater than the cost a consumer is actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since US Mint only pays for the marginal private cost of producing the pennies, it will produce where the marginal private cost is equal to the
marginal private benefit. But since there is a negative externality, the marginal private cost is not the same as the marginal social cost. Since pennies
have become a market failure, government intervention needs to be implemented in order to correct the market failure quantity to move more towards
the social quantity which always has the opportunity to move the penny market closer to a more efficient solution and reduce deadweight losses. Also,
I believe that the government needs to intervene and completely abolish the production of pennies and have every product sold for every business

Flashback seven years to my first trip to the streets and countryside of Europe and my first step in a long journey of realization. A nine year old boy
with no worries other than missing mom and wanting a Capri–Sun. I was essentially an untouched specimen with nothing but pure thoughts. These
thoughts would soon become tarnished with corruption and sadness as a result of what the reality of the world is like. It isn't filled with oversized
shopping malls and towering casinos, but rather cartels of conglomerated homeless children struggling to live another day, struggling to find a glimpse
of happiness in an overcast of doom. In the case of the city of Bucharest, beautiful gothic and byzantine style structures mingle with the teeming crowds

We have become disconnected from true relationships and true love and have become flesh manifestations of the technologies around us. We
have become too cold, too serious, and too violent to remember the ways our ancestors lived and the enjoyment they obtained from an unadorned
lifestyle. We have, as a result, struggled with the ever increasing rates of anxiety and crippling depression that such a bustling, overgrown society
will inherently experience. We have wrongfully attempted to ignore the threats of climate change and our responsibility for its existence by
covering it up by labeling it as a hoax and blaming it on everything but ourselves. However it has come time to realize that our actions have effects
both on other people and the planet and will not go unnoticed. It is time we establish an ideal society with rulers who are not self centered egotists
that we would never trust if we had a sense of normalcy. It is time to abolish a capitalistic, totalitarian way of life, in which we live in the shadows
of the one percent; too scared to speak and too scared to live how we feel we should live. Whether or not we choose to fix our current state, we will

Abolish The Penny Essay
Getting rid of the Penny is a good idea
"Should we abolish the penny?", is a question that a lot of people have ask. I think that we should abolish the penny, because it is costing the US
more to make the penny than it is even worth. Every year the U.S. Treasury produces 12 to 14 billion pennies at a cost of $90 million. If we
abolished the penny, instead of paying $39.99, we could round it up to $40.00, or round it down to the nearest nickel, and make it $39.95.
The penny is not worth as much as it used to be. In the 1940's, a penny would get you to pieces of candy, but today you cannot buy anything with a
single penny. These days, people don't even take their time to bend down and pick up a penny that is laying on the side walk. In the story we read,
the dad offered his shoe box full of pennies to his eight year old son, to wrap up in rolls of 50, but his son told him "Thanks, dad, but it isn't worth it."
If its not worth the time an 8 year olds to wrap pennies, and put them in the bank, then why is US Government keep making them. ... Show more content

People waste so much time, digging through their purse or wallet looking for a penny. If we abolished the penny, then it would make waiting in line
for someone to pay go so much faster, because they wouldn't have to dig around, looking for that 2 more cents. We would also round the sales tax up
to the nearest nickel also. For instance, a 7% sales tax on a $31 purchase would be $2.17, we would round that up to $2.20. The customer would be
losing 3 cents, but that would meant that the state would be making a little bit more money to spend on roads, and

Abraham Lincoln And Pop Culture
In today's society Abraham Lincoln is still a popular figure in our culture. He was a common man that came from nothing but had big dreams for
himself. Since Lincoln's death in 1865, we still see him in pop culture today. We find him on the flipped side of a penny, on Mt. Rushmore, and
anything from movies to action figures. The most known about piece of pop culture Lincoln is depicted in is the movie "Lincoln." The movie shows
Lincoln in the times of the Civil War. "Lincoln" shows the Congressional Debates all the way to the fighting done on the battlefields. Also, being
showed was hard fighting that had to be done to win the fight against slavery. The war came down to the nitty gritty to win so that no black person
would be owned. The ending showed President Lincoln's death. This was heartfelt and should be a movie that everyone watches at least once in their
lifetime.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie just didn't focus on Lincoln but the hard work and dedication it took to abolish slavery as a whole. It also showed Lincolns hardships
with his wife and sons. The aging of Lincoln and Grant telling Lincoln that he looked like he had aged 10 years since the previous year showed the
toll the war had on Lincoln. A lot of hard work goes into being the President of theUnited States and it wasn't a walk in the park to completely abolish
slavery. This movie had great meaning and was well thought out.
Throughout this movie there was many different "Lincoln's" portrayed. The first Lincoln I thought that was portrayed is "Lincoln the Man of the
People." Lincoln just wasn't worried about the blacks he was worried about this nation as a whole and it not being divided. Throughout the movie he
was shown as wanting what was best for his American people. He wanted the violence to stop and no longer wanted to see lives taken because of this

Abolishing The Penny Research Paper
Jared Hopkins Ms. Best Advanced Language Arts 7 24 April 2017 Abolishing the Penny: It's Time When's the last time you used a penny? Most
people rarely use them, but the US mint makes nearly 7.5 billions pennies each and every year, but for what? Some say pennies have been around
too long and you can't just get rid of them, however when you take into account that the penny costs more than it's face value then you might change
your mind. It's time for pennies to go, on average all the pennies we make cost the US almost $900 million per year. Now this cost isn't even including
the time, fuel, expenses, and the hassle of shipping all these pennies to the banks, just for everybody to throw them in a penny jar. Research shows that

If we just get rid of the penny, the mint would only have to do half the work! And we're not even counting all the time, fuel, expense, and hassle of
carting all those pennies around to the banks, merchants, etc. If we stop making pennies in the first place, we save all this associated time and
trouble, too" (Headley). If we just got rid of the penny we wouldn't have to pay the price for making therm, and for getting them everywhere, which
could cost nearly as much as making all the pennies. On the flip side, some might say that if we got rid of the penny then we would have to round
everything to the nickel, because of this we would have to make more nickels, which are even less economically efficient then the penny. What
these people don't realize is that most goods, and services will round up to the nearest dollar, so we won't have to make nearly as many nickels as
we would pennies. In conclusion the penny should be abolished because, we end up 1.924 billion dollars more in debt. The penny isn't worth it and
has to go, it costs more to make then it is worth, so we are losing money, besides losing money we also lose time, the time to make the pennies and, to

A Penny's Promise See a penny pick it up and all day you'll have good luck! That was and still is a mantra of hope for many, including myself. It is
one taught to children in schools across America as a way to encourage positive saving habits. On a bad day, if I find a penny my mood changes
and my spirit lightens. My relationship with pennies heightened as I began middle school and realized the true value of this tiny coin. Day after day,
I found pennies under couches and behind doors. I collected them for almost a year until I had saved enough for a pair of sunglasses. Little did I

Penny Good Or Bad
Name something that costs one penny, it is probably impossible with today's economy. The penny is not beneficial anymore due to the dangerous
metals released into the environment and the coin is just too expensive to produce. So why do Americans keep this unwanted coin around?
The metals used in producing the penny are too dangerous and costly. First, zinc and copper are the main components in the penny production, which is
threatening to the environment. First, almost all the penny is made up of zinc, which in high doses is harmful to animals and even humans. According
to "Livingston", "In addition, zinc itself, though in small amounts, is harmful in high doses to both humans and animals." Second, zinc and copper are
too expensive in the making of the penny. To justify, the demand price for zinc has doubled and the demand price for copper has tripled. As

First, the U.S. Mint spends twice as much money than they really need to, to create the penny. To validate, the penny production is worth around
decuple times more than the actual penny itself. As articulated by "Livingston", "According to the 2014 Annual Report from the U.S. Mint, it now
costs $0.017 – or 1.7 cents – to make one cent. That means whenever the Mint produces a penny and sends it out to a bank, it is actually losing
money on the deal." Second, the overall total the government spends on pennies is over millions of dollars. In particular, the U.S. Mint produces
eight billion pennies in one year, and the prices of the coin add up in an overall total of millions of dollars. As stated by "Browning", "Eight billion

Argumentative Essay On The Penny
Everybody in America has once had that shiny, copper, small penny jingling in their pockets. The smallest denomination in the U.S. worth only one
cent, has been a part of this country for hundreds of years. This coinage has brought a significant effect on our strong American economy. But a
problem has been brought up within the last couple decades on whether or not the penny shall be abolished or not. The penny has historical importance
and is appreciated more than people believe pennies to be
To the average person the penny only has one value and that is in the sense of the economy. If asked many people say the penny is worth one cent.
Which it is but the penny has more than the economic value it exemplifies the history of the U.S. In source G, Pennies, it shows the two types of
pennies one from the past around 1793 and one from the present. These two visuals show that the penny has been around for more than 200 years. It
also shows that the penny has meaning to the people because there has been time taken to remodel and enhance the visual appeal. The present visual of
the penny can be described as sentimental to the citizens of the United States because of the person that is on the penny. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th
president of this country is the face of the copper coin. The penny has a job to pay homage to one of this country's most important presidents. As said
by Michael Bishop in source F, "President Bush signs Lincoln Penny Redesign Into Law", he states that "the

African America As A Nation Of Slaves In America
"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many
ways, essentially a nation of cowards," Attorney General Eric Holder. I do believe that as a nation, we do steer away from controversial subjects as race,
racism, and the old times of slavery. As a nation we have come a very good way from the past, slaves are no longer a part of everyday life, and for the
most part there are equal opportunities, and laws for equal opportunities for anyone of all races, colors, and ethnic backgrounds. Through the years
African Americans have been a target for slavery at the beginning of times to the still racial slurs people utter under their breaths. We as a nation
need to come together as one and realize the considerable experiences African Americans have been through. In the late 1700's slaves were uprooted
from their homes in West Africa, shackled and transported to the New World, where they were sold off. The conditions of the chambers where the
African American slaves were held were deplorable, roomed with rats and given just enough food for survival. They endured physical and
psychological trials from the European slave traders, who saw them as only a pretty penny. Many slaves did not make the full journey and died from
smallpox. Coming forty–seven years or so later, a case was made against slavery and owning and selling the people of Africa by Edward Trelawny.
Unfortunately, slaves

Fallacy Cards: Game Analysis
This week, I contributed primarily to three different aspects of the project: the game, the skit, and the STAAR–like questions. On Monday, I helped
complete our game. The game, similar to Apples to Apples, consists of several rounds. Each round someone draws a fallacy card and a topic card.
Each player, except one who acts as judge, must make a logical fallacy specified on the card regarding the topic drawn. The judge chooses the best
answer and the player who gets the point must then explain why their statement was fallacious and provide a correct alternative. This week, I helped to
establish the rules and structure for the game and complete the set of thirty fallacy cards. For each fallacy card, I listed a specific logical fallacy and an
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While working on the aforementioned game, I researched various logical fallacies and developed an understanding of their meanings and uses. For
instance, I learned about the loaded question fallacy, which presents a question to an argumentative opponent, which implies guilt or makes the
opponent seem guilty regardless of how they answer. I learned that this type of fallacy works most effectively (as a misdirection) when applied in
contexts when the audience's views about the arguers' characters matter, such as in political debates and court cases held before a jury. Another
example of a fallacy I learned about is the fallacy fallacy, which argues that an argument automatically becomes invalid when someone uses a fallacy to
support it. In addition to learning about logical fallacies, I developed a clearer understanding of my group's standard by reviewing the example
questions on Google Classroom and practicing making my own questions. From this practice, I learned that STAAR generally tests my group's
standard (10A/B) by asking questions about the speaker's argument. These questions generally ask why the speaker uses certain language and what
their opinions the speaker holds about certain topics based on what they said. I applied this knowledge by making my own STAAR–like questions
modeled after the examples. In general, I learned the specific details of several new logical fallacies and the methods used by the STAAR test to test

o begin with, Christopher Columbus' legacy was more negative because he created the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Slave Trade was the cause of
years of suffering for Africans and Native Americans and the trend began slavery in the Americas. According to Rebecca Dobbs, professor at the

slaves, thus beginning the pattern of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Others followed his example, shipping Natives from various parts of North America

Essay on Why Should We Use Pennies
It has come to my attention of how we use our money and noticed that pennies aren't being taken seriously. I realized while standing in the checking
line, people would rather use dollar bills instead of the piggy bank of pennies in their possession, not only because of limited utility, for instance,
pennies are generally not accepted in vending and bulk machines, but also because the act of producing the penny cost more than the actual penny
itself. So I ask myself, "Why use pennies? Should they be eliminated?" The growing debate of whether or not the penny should be eliminated from all
cash transaction is, personally, futile, when they, themselves, doesn't bother to use them. It seems as if the penny is kept around today for more... Show

However, these people who have claimed this is unaware to the merchant technique of $9.99, which seems to be psychologically important; to keep
that extra digit, $10.00, from showing up and scaring the customers away. And if we do, indeed, eliminate the penny, merchants would find another
technique, for example, decrease the price to $9.95, to not increase the price an extra digit. But I say, the realistic idea and goal for eliminating pennies
is because their feeble purchasing power means dealing with coins and making change to the nearest cent is an uneconomic waste of time for the nation
as a whole, because majority of us are affected by it. The United States either seems to be unaware or choose to be unaware of every other nation
not only eliminating pennies, but some also eliminating coins, even their neighbor Canada. It's true our past have taught us a lot and brought us here.
We can't turn our backs on our past as a nation because we have to reflect back in order to move on, successfully. However, in the case of this nation,
our past is in our way of moving on, the sentimental attachment to the penny will lead us astray if we hold on to it. Other countries have eliminated
pennies because it's both a waste of time and money, so I suggest we do the same. Instead of eliminating the penny to make a greater use of the

Abolish The Penny Essay
In our world today what can we buy with a penny coin? The answer is nothing. There are many controversial arguments about keeping or getting rid of
the penny. I think eliminating this coin can be a positive thing. If we abolish the penny, the United States would be saving time, money, and resources.
In Forbes magazine, Neena Moorjani said "It's practically useless in everyday life" (Lewis). Most people today fling their pennies into the trash, they
drop out of circulation, or in couch cushions where you won't see them again. In the 1900's there was a thing called penny candy. You could go to a
local store and buy one piece, or a few pieces of your favorite candy with just one penny. Today, candy bars from a gas station can cost up to two
dollars. Adding to this, vending machines cause problems with coins. The vending machines used to take all types of coins, nickels, dimes and even
pennies. If you try to put a penny in a machine now it will just spit it back out or an alarm will sound. In stores when someone says "one second I
think I have some pennies" is very annoying. It uses about "...40 wasted seconds per day per person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the U.S. mint it cost about 1.7–2 cents to make a penny. That means it cost more than one penny to make a penny. Making it even worse,
there are billions of pennies being made each month. Years ago America had a halfcent coin. It was in circulation from 1793–1857. Only 7 million coins
were produced during this time. If you found this rare coin today it could be worth $15 all the way to $10,000. It was decided in 1857 that the half
coin would be terminated forever, Taking the coin out of circulation had no real impact on us as people. I believe that dropping the penny will have
no real side effects like this half cent did (Crandall). In all honesty, we will have some problems in the beginning if we drop the coin. In the long run,

United states produces 13 billion pennies each year. The Penny coin in America played a role to our economy/without people noticing too much.
People most likely don't recognize it due to inflation of prices. To public eyes the penny has always been heated debate topic. Which leads into my
paper here. Should the penny be eliminated or kept? The penny should not be eliminated from our "coins system" because the prices would be
rounded(making prices mostly going up), the penny has need to stay for economy. And the "public"(average american citizen) view matters and need to
be heard. Even the penny kept costing United States to make then it is worth, but the benefits of the penny beats out the cost.

" The remaining 300 million or so that's 10 million new useless items punched out every day by government workers who could be more usefully
employed tracking counterfeiters,"(source C). Producing the penny is job for many americans in the US hired by the government. If you use their
time better by tracking counterfeiters, all it does is need for more jobs. Which is good for the US, if we have more people working and collecting
weekly paycheck, then US won't have to worry about Welfare growing(savingmoney for the US). Plus with people earning more money from jobs,
they will spend more and the government makes more money. This is best case scenario for everyone because people get jobs and money while
government spends less on welfare and more tax money! Our economy could get out of this debt America is facing because if we can't deal with it
now, then its major problem in the future happening. This helps our present and future get better! Now another reason is citizen want to keep the
penny. " Favor Abolishing The Penny?,"(Source E). Yes, but if you dig deeper into the data, it states that the lower earning class wanted to save the
money more because they knew what the penny impact on price. Don't let that confuse you because every earning class asked, stated penny should be
kept. 23% of the people wanted to get rid of it while 59% wanted to keep and 18% not decided.

Argumentative Essay: Why We Should Abolish The Penny

Should we abolish the Penny–Con
As a recognized part of modern American life, the penny is far too entrenched in our daily life to be abolished. In fact, the effort to abolish the penny
would be enormous, and simply not worth the estimated benefits of such a monumental a change. In ridding our economy of the penny, the federal
government would first need to convince a public greatly in favor of keeping the penny. As indicated by a poll by the Harris group public opinion
shows a strong desire to keep the penny. In fact 59% of Americans have expressed their support of the penny and in low income homes that support
rises to 62% ("Abolish the Penny? A Majority of the Public Says 'No'," 2004). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These proponents claim that it is considered a nuisance by most Americans, and that the benefits far outweigh the negatives noting that Canada has
already done away with their low denomination coins and have not suffered any of the detrimental effects claimed by proponents of the penny.
The cost to produce the penny (it currently costs $ to produce is another reason given by these groups to get rid of it. One of the most prominent
proponents of abolishing the penny, Professor Robert Whaples of Wake Forest University, also claim that the use of pennies in cash transactions
add 2.5 seconds to each transaction adding 40 seconds to each employees day. If the average store clerk were making 15.00 per hour that penny is
costing each American $60.00 per year and the American economy 15 billion dollars a year (Whaples, 2007). But as indicated by Professor Lombra,
an economist at the University of Pennsylvania, "cash register clerks would not suddenly be free to stock shelves of clean stores if the penny were no
longer in circulation. Moreover, rounding creates additional complexity at the cash register– that is, the cash or charge and round or not round
character of each transaction – that will, if anything, increase the time associated with settling transactions, thereby aggravating any productivity loss
rather than reducing it". ("1996 ACC Testimony Before the House Banking and Financial Services Committee,"

Abraham Lincoln
This is the story of a man named Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. There are many things that
Abraham has done, but the biggest thing he ever did was free the slaves. He saw the slaves and felt that it was very wrong to own people. The
southern states despised the idea of freeing the slaves, so the Civil War started. The northern side won, thus,Abraham Lincoln freed the blacks from
slavery.
Abraham Lincoln can be important just for the fact that he was our president at one point. However, that doesn't even come close to the main reasons
he is important. Without Abraham Lincoln, we would have never freed the slaves and we would still be owning people. If we didn't have Abraham

The Price Of The Penny
The Penny is essentially a vital part of our money system. There has been many speculation about whether or not the United States should abolish the
penny from being minted any longer. Although the penny has been a part of the American culture since 1787, it has such a small value, it will always
be a part of American history. So as the years go on we should realize that the penny is everything to theUnited States. The penny should not be
eliminated from the money system due to the fact that it is a part of the American culture and has earned its respect over the years.
In America, there is still a debate if the penny should be eliminated. If it was to be eliminated it would still be used, but in a minimal way. In Canada,
the Canadian penny was eliminated due to cost, time, and the country believed it was a waste of money, "inflation reduced its purchasing power by
95% since it was first minted domestically in 1908: back then the cent could buy goods of the cost of $0.20, today in other words."(The Economist).
Once a small coin can no longer be used to buy individual items at that price, but it is only used to make change, it becomes more trouble than it is
worth. Canadian pennies cost "1.6 Canadian cents to manufacture, and the government expected to save $11 million a year by eliminating them"(The
Economist). But that sum equivalent to 0.0006% of GDP is small change. Canadians feel that eliminating pennies is that their feeble purchasing power

The Importance Of Saving The Penny
In 2001, United States Representative Jim Kolbe introduced legislation to Congress to eliminate the penny coin in most transactions. Although this
legislation failed, there are still consistent calls to eliminate the penny as the smallest–denomination United States coin. Nowadays, pennies sit behind
couches, corrode in mall ponds, and wait patiently for a wandering child to choke on them. Having no purpose other than to calm the need for
precision, pennies consume time, waste money, and endanger safety. Today, most people look to grow economically. With work days lasting anywhere
from eight to twelve hours, we dedicate our time to making money. Time not doing a job is time without money. We recognize the importance in
giving up our time so much that we came up with a standard social belief. Time is money.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abolition Of Pennies
The U.S have been producing pennies for over a 200 years now and over time it has become very useless to the society. A penny is only one cent
and to most people that is worthless. Pennies were more valued around the 1950s, when the products were very cheap to buy. As technology evolved,
and as products got more expensive, the use of dollar bills and greater got more valuable. The abolition of the penny needs to happen in the United
States. Because pennies are outdated, therefore the United States should abolish the pennies, since there's no single products that can be purchased with

Jacksonian Era Dbq
Andrew Jackson once stated that the government should offer, "Equal protection and equal benefits" to all its white male citizens. During his
presidency, he demonstrated his belief by changing politics, economic development, and reform movements to be more suited toward the "common
man." Based on such evidence the Jacksonian Period has lived up to its characterization as the era of the "common man." Jackson, the face of the
Democratic Party in the 1830's, celebrated honest and simple workers and contrasted them to corrupt forces of established wealth. These views
contrasted from those of the Whigs, who favored the expansion of the federal government and was strongest among merchants and manufactures in the

Despite being an advocate of the hard–money faction, which condemned all banks that issued banknotes, Jackson also opposed the bank because it
went against his basic views. It restrained state banks from issuing notes freely and most advocates believed in rapid economic growth, which was
the opposite of what Jackson believed in. Not being able to abolish the Bank before the expiration of its charter, Jackson weakened the bank by
withdrawing the government's deposits from it. Nicholas Biddle carried the contraction of credit too far and having to reverse himself, his hopes of
winning a recharter of the Bank died. After the destruction of the Bank, Jackson then went after the most powerful remaining institution of economic
nationalism: the Supreme Court. After the death of John Marshall, Jackson appointed his ally, Roger B. Taney, as the new chief justice. The decision
from the case of Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge of 1837 reflected another one of Jackson's basic views: "The key todemocracy was an
expansion of economic opportunity, which would not occur if older corporations could maintain monopolies." Between the years of 1835 and 1837,
canal and railroad builders were at the peak of activity resulting in a nationwide economic boom. For the first and only time in history, the government
was out of debt and had a surplus in the Treasury. An 1836 "distribution" act required the federal government to pay the surplus to the states in four
quarterly installments. The states spent the money towards the construction of highways, railroads, and

Get Rid of the Penny
The penny must be eliminated as quickly as possible. The United States is in massive debt and instead of cutting programs which are vital to the
economy and to citizens of the United States, the United States must find ways to cut expenses in parts that are often over looked. One great way to cut
down on unnecessary spending is the penny. Believe it or not, the penny, the smallest denomination of currency in theUnited States is a huge waste of
money. The one cent denomination has no use. You can no longer "buy anything with a penny" anymore. (William) The only use the penny has is to
pay for the taxes, which, can be rounded off to the nearest nickel thus obliterating the need for a penny.
On top of not having a use, the penny is a big waste of time, literally. Gore, a graduate student at the University of California at Berkeley has made a
calculation that approximately "four hours per person per year" is wasted on rummaging for pennies which in turn costs the nation "over $15 billion per
year." (Kahn) These $15 billion could be used to create jobs, invest in renewable energy, or invest in education, all of which would greatly improve the
nation while at the same time getting rid of a pointless coin.
People admittedly do not favor change. Many have seen the statistics concerning how much it costs to maintain making pennies, the time it wastes and
the overall problem it creates, but they still would not want to get rid of the penny. The Harris Poll has data supporting that

The United States should not abolish the penny. One of the examples of why the United States shouldn't abolish the penny is if the federal reserve
changed the material the penny is made out of the cost of material will decrease. Secondly, the United States shouldn't abolished the penny because the
tax on items would increase and force people into a situation where they don't know what items cost. Lastly, if the United States abolished the penny
americans would be forced to use the nickel that cost more to make then the penny.
For example, the United States should not abolish the penny because changing the penny to a different material would cost less and in contrast help
more then getting rid of the penny. The cost to make one penny is more than the currency of a penny itself. Changing the material to something like
steel will lower the money needed to create a penny. The cost of steel is really cheap and will make the cost of producing pennies cheaper and easier to

Reasons To Abolish The Penny
When talking about the penny there are two very distinct separate sides, one that says to get rid of the penny and one that says to keep it. People
arguing to get rid of the penny say that it costs to much to make and we would be better off without it. While people rooting for the penny say that
doing away with it would cause tons of problems with rounding. Personally I think that we as a county need to abolish the penny and I will show
you why. One reason to abolish the penny is that we will get a boost in the economy due to large amounts, of now free to spend cash. In his article

Persuasive Essay On Tipping
The United States is one of the few counties in the world still using the old fashion tipping system. "During the late 19th century legislature rapidly
abolishes the practice of tipping when it is introduced by wealthy Americans. Eventually restauranteurs find a way to prospect of passing labor costs to
consumer, which convinced the American to accept the practice of tipping." When many American don't understand the purpose of tipping is for but
somehow it is customer responsibility to pay the restaurant employees based on their service. There are many reasons to argue about the tipping
system. But, most of them ignore the very basic problem with abolishing tipping in America, the most difficult of which is our absurdly low minimum
wage. The practice is abhorrent from a historical perspective. Recently, New York City's Sushi Yasuda owner Scott Rosenberg announced that he
decided to eliminate tipping altogether. Following the custom in Japan, he decided to pay his employees higher wages and redistribute the cost to
the customers by raising the prices on the menu. Is this a good idea? Rosenberg, who abolished tipping at his restaurant, made a very powerful
statement against the Outdated of tipping practice. He penned what many others believe is one of the most succinct and yet irrefutable way. The staff

culture, yet it causes a fortune to manufacture a single one. In the first place, the penny should be kept as American currency because of the great impact
it holds. For instance in the article, The Ever–Changing Penny, the author states, "The history of a penny reveals... a piece of American culture. The

every few years. The materials used to construct the penny could be changed to more common and cheap metals. An equally important piece of
information comes from the article Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish?, where Sommer states, "The mint defer to Congress, and Congress hasn't told it

Argumentative Essay On Abolish The Penny
Pennies are one of America's oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that it has no wealth. America's classic coin the penny,
is beginning to prove to be a second–rate coin when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves to
be completely counterproductive in today's society. After debating of whether or not thepenny should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny
is worthless, easily replaceable, and a waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely worthless to the
modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the amount range of the penny. In "Abolish the Penny" William Safire
writes that, "You can't buy anything with a penny any more. Penny candy? Not for sale at the five and dime (which is now a dollar store)...Any
vending machines? Put a penny in it and it will sound an alarm." Clearly, there is an irony when it comes to "penny" candy, when you can't even use
your one cent coin to purchase said sweets. When it all comes down to the bottom line, pennies can't be even remotely used to purchase any goods
because of it's problematic value; it's mostly useless. Even the press secretary, Neena Moorjani, also believes the idea that "the penny is practically

No Need for Pennies in Our Economy Essay
Every day we buy things, and to purchase these items, most of us use credit cards or bills. Do we use pennies for virtually any transactions? The
answer is no, we don't. Consequently, the penny is far and away the least useful monetary value we have. Pennies are inefficient and should be cut out
of the currency. The rationale behind this conclusion is simple: the price tag of minting a penny is more than one cent. Unfortunately for the penny, two
other reasons prove that we require it no longer. The first reason is that not only will the removal of pennies make us more effective, it will drop
prices similar to what happened in Australia and New Zealand when they abolished their "pennies". The second is that we know that we do not need it

Finally, who better to illustrate the need to abolish the penny than the very Department of Defense itself. In the Prairie News Register, David R.
Carroll also explains, "It [Department of Defense] abolished the use of pennies... because pennies were considered 'too heavy' and 'not cost–effective to
ship'" (Para. 2). Military bases overseas simply round transactions to the nearest five–cent denomination. Overall, this leads to faster transactions and
more productive environments. Because the world we live in is based on competence and speed, even the slightest boost to our organization will have
major positive effects on society, and the pennies will give us that slight boost.
Unfortunately, some people believe that prices will rise in the event that the penny is discontinued, notwithstanding evidence to the contrary. Their
reasoning being that businesses will have no incentive to drop prices, prices will not drop. In the rather unlikely event that this does happen,
removing pennies will still be the better choice. According to "Penny Anti", "On average, the customer will lose two and a half cents in each
transaction. If someone engages in two such transactions per day, over a year they would lose $18.25 compared with the person given their pennies"
(Para. 12). The person given their pennies would lose an estimated average of $50 in time due to pennies. Furthermore, the government loses
approximately $100 million, making the

Argumentative Essay: America Should Abolish The Penny
Have you ever felt like you wanted to get rid of something? That "something" might be the penny. Well, the penny's value has comedown so much, no
one really cares about it anymore. The penny costs too much money to make so we are wasting time and money. The cash register takes a long time to
count each penny so prices should be rounded. In my opinion, America should abolish the penny. First of all, the penny costs way too muchmoney to
make. The US Mint makes 7 billion pennies per year for more than $100 million dollars. Instead of wasting money like this, we could use this money
for other things like the army. We can use this money to defeat our enemies. Pennies are made of copper and zinc which are two metals that are really

For example, when someone sees a penny on the road, they don't pick it up anymore. Inflation has taken away the value of the penny. It is simply no
longer useful now. The penny has always been the coin with the lowest value so no one really cares about one cent. The penny should be
abolished because nobody really cares about it any more. Third, the cash register person takes a long time to count each coin. For example, if the
price was $1.92, and we gave the cash register $2, he would have to count 1 nickel and 3 pennies. Sometimes it could take a long time to count
each coin. Other countries like Australia and Netherlands have rounded their prices and they are pretty successful. The U.S. has already taken away
the half penny so they're not afraid to take the penny away. A simple way to abandon the penny would be to round each price to the nearest nickel. I
think America should get rid of the penny. We should get rid of it because it costs too much money and no one cares about it anymore. We should also
take away the penny because the cash register person takes too long to count the money. The penny is too old now. "Good Bye

Being Asian Stereotypes Essay

  • 1. Being Asian Stereotypes Essay Does this sound familiar: "How did you not get an A? You're so bad at being Asian!"? If so, then you have heard a stereotype–– a (usually) funny, odd "fact" that you are most likely an expert on, given the amount of times you have heard the different versions of it... but, have you ever stopped to think about what a stereotype is? Stereotypes surround us everywhere we go; they are imbedded in our thoughts, conversations, and actions alike, and are simply regarded as "human nature", but what if they are affecting us more than we think? Sometimes, they are so disguised or normal to us, that we forget what a stereotype really is, or how it began. According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, a stereotype is "to believe unfairly that all people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the dictionary said, a stereotype is "to believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same"; so, if everyone tries to learn about other cultures, those beliefs can be proven wrong, thus getting rid of the stereotype. How can you learn about other cultures? There are many ways to learn about other cultures. Reading about other people, getting to know others, traveling, and seeing pictures of other places are all great ways of opening up our eyes to the world around us. The many travel TV shows are a more interactive way of learning, and can show more of the place's culture. Talking to local people who have certain backgrounds can be very useful as well, because they most likely know the stereotypes and are willing to educate you on them in an understandable way. In the end, stereotypes–– unfair beliefs that all people and things with a certain characteristic are the same–– will stay present until we work together to open our eyes to the world around us. As hard as getting rid of the stereotypes that offend people and impact lives can be–– especially when they are found everywhere from our homes to our schools–– by informing ourselves of other cultures, we can abolish them, and replace them with much needed ... • 2. It's Time to Abolish The Penny! Essay Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2% copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses. This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4 cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury. Last year, the mint earned $730 million dollars in profit. Many mint officials claim the estimation will be about $45 million due to the cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This averages to about 1210 pennies per person in the United States. These numbers are just simply preposterous. A majority of these Lincolns have probably been trashed, thrown on the ground or located in unknown areas of homes and apartments. The penny is practically worthless to many people in our country. In a Gallup Poll of 1,002 adults conducted from June 11 of this year displayed shocking results. Nearly 75% of those adults would stop and pick a penny that is present on the ground. About 40% of men and 35% of women would walk passed a penny that is on any type of surface. This poll also found that 58 percent of Americans stash their pennies in piggy banks, jars and drawers. Some Americans redeem their cents at banks or coin–counting machines, but 2 percent admitted they toss them into the trash. They consider the penny a nuisance to many fellow Americans. This sentiment has been growing through recent years. The penny is basically obsolete and should be removed from American currency. Many penny supporters think there is not an inflation with the economy. The cent doesn't buy anything in today's market. It is merely a token used to make odd change during cash purchases. The customer may have to use the, "Leave a penny, take a penny" bowl next to the cash register for correcting the balance. The penny can be put back into the bowl if the customer doesn't accept the return of pennies. It is neater than throwing them on the ground ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of The Transatlantic Slavery On Liverpool The Impact of Slavery on Liverpool The transatlantic slave trade was undisputedly an imperative part of English history, and furthermore an essential foundation in shaping social structures and economies. This was perhaps most notable in the city of Liverpool; a city, whose input into the slave trade managed to transcend it from a small fishing town to one of the most renowned cities in the country. This essay will explore and contextualise the transnational slave trade within Liverpool and its various intricacies; addressing both the social and economic factors of the use of slavery along with, inevitably, its abolition. The essay will utilise and inspect a variety of sources cited from various eras, each providing a unique perspective that can be both explored, and applied in a wider context to Liverpool's society and relevant ideologies, ergo addressing the question of the impact that slavery had unto the city of Liverpool. Context to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and How it was Integrated into Liverpool: The transatlantic slave trade was integrated into England amid the 16th century (with the first occurrence of the trade taking place in 1563.), where it began to develop as one of the country's most lucrative trades. Nowhere was this more evident than in the case of Liverpool, a city that ascended into prosperity from the spoils of the triangular trade. One of the first instances of English slaving voyagers was that of John Hawkins, a Plymouth merchant who led some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Abolish Penny Americans have been using the penny every day for over 200 years, so how could Americans just abolish it now? The penny has been an important part of our history in the United States. It still shows the face of Abraham Lincoln, a very important president, and civil rights activist who wrote the Gettysburg Address, and abolished slavery. Abolishing the penny would lead to economic problems, and harm several charities in theUnited States. If 68% of American adults favor keeping the penny, then why abolish it? Plus, another 73% of Americans are afraid that if the penny were abolished, we would lose millions of dollars to merchants due to rounding (Penny Charity). Americans should keep the penny to avoid many difficulties, and maintain our long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What would we do with the 250 billion pennies in circulation? That means that 2 to 2.5 billion dollars would be wasted, and worthless. 2.5 billion dollars could be used to help several great causes. The average penny costs 1.67 cents to make so that means that approximately 417.5 billion dollars will be wasted if we decide to abolish the penny (7 Penny Facts). That would make a substantial difference in the lives of many people. Today to try to keep costs down the penny is made from 97.5% zinc and a little copper just for the appearance (Lewis). Many people that are against the penny say that we should get rid of the penny because, "it costs more money to be produced than what the penny is actually worth." The truth really would be that it wouldn't save the United States any money. An economic problem would actually arise (7 Penny Facts). What happens if you go to the store and spend 5.01? You would end up getting charged 5.05 and the businesses would take the extra 4 cents. This small amount would add up very quickly and everything would cost consumers more money each time you go to get gas, groceries, clothes, etc. More money would also be put towards producing more nickels, dimes, quarters, or other paper bills because they would get used more often. Also, all of the cash registers around the entire country would need to be re–programmed, due to not having the penny values. This would cost billions of dollars. So, abolishing the penny would not save money but actually lead to a lot of other costs all related to abolishing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Externality Of Currency All throughout history there have been a few different types of currency in America that have been taken out of the monetary cycle, such as the half cent. The reasons were because the cost of the currency being produced was higher than the actual face value of the currency. As many historians say, "history repeats itself" is because it actually has! In 2005 was when the penny finally reached the cost of one cent in order to produce one penny. In 2011, it costed about 2.4 cents to make one penny. This was because the price of zinc increased, or the US dollar has gone down in value. The penny would be considered a negative externality, because the US Mint keeps making the decision to keep producing them and they do not have to pay the full cost of continuously producing the penny. This occurs, because the currency being produced comes from the US citizens taxes. Since the penny is a negative externality, the cost to society is greater than the cost a consumer is actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since US Mint only pays for the marginal private cost of producing the pennies, it will produce where the marginal private cost is equal to the marginal private benefit. But since there is a negative externality, the marginal private cost is not the same as the marginal social cost. Since pennies have become a market failure, government intervention needs to be implemented in order to correct the market failure quantity to move more towards the social quantity which always has the opportunity to move the penny market closer to a more efficient solution and reduce deadweight losses. Also, I believe that the government needs to intervene and completely abolish the production of pennies and have every product sold for every business round up to the nearest five ... • 6. Essay Flashback seven years to my first trip to the streets and countryside of Europe and my first step in a long journey of realization. A nine year old boy with no worries other than missing mom and wanting a Capri–Sun. I was essentially an untouched specimen with nothing but pure thoughts. These thoughts would soon become tarnished with corruption and sadness as a result of what the reality of the world is like. It isn't filled with oversized shopping malls and towering casinos, but rather cartels of conglomerated homeless children struggling to live another day, struggling to find a glimpse of happiness in an overcast of doom. In the case of the city of Bucharest, beautiful gothic and byzantine style structures mingle with the teeming crowds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have become disconnected from true relationships and true love and have become flesh manifestations of the technologies around us. We have become too cold, too serious, and too violent to remember the ways our ancestors lived and the enjoyment they obtained from an unadorned lifestyle. We have, as a result, struggled with the ever increasing rates of anxiety and crippling depression that such a bustling, overgrown society will inherently experience. We have wrongfully attempted to ignore the threats of climate change and our responsibility for its existence by covering it up by labeling it as a hoax and blaming it on everything but ourselves. However it has come time to realize that our actions have effects both on other people and the planet and will not go unnoticed. It is time we establish an ideal society with rulers who are not self centered egotists that we would never trust if we had a sense of normalcy. It is time to abolish a capitalistic, totalitarian way of life, in which we live in the shadows of the one percent; too scared to speak and too scared to live how we feel we should live. Whether or not we choose to fix our current state, we will continue to live in an erratic manner. Continue to ignore the signs of damage we are incurring upon mother nature. Continue to live as frugal peasants who work everyday to support a society that doesn't support them, instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Abolish The Penny Essay Getting rid of the Penny is a good idea "Should we abolish the penny?", is a question that a lot of people have ask. I think that we should abolish the penny, because it is costing the US more to make the penny than it is even worth. Every year the U.S. Treasury produces 12 to 14 billion pennies at a cost of $90 million. If we abolished the penny, instead of paying $39.99, we could round it up to $40.00, or round it down to the nearest nickel, and make it $39.95. The penny is not worth as much as it used to be. In the 1940's, a penny would get you to pieces of candy, but today you cannot buy anything with a single penny. These days, people don't even take their time to bend down and pick up a penny that is laying on the side walk. In the story we read, the dad offered his shoe box full of pennies to his eight year old son, to wrap up in rolls of 50, but his son told him "Thanks, dad, but it isn't worth it." If its not worth the time an 8 year olds to wrap pennies, and put them in the bank, then why is US Government keep making them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People waste so much time, digging through their purse or wallet looking for a penny. If we abolished the penny, then it would make waiting in line for someone to pay go so much faster, because they wouldn't have to dig around, looking for that 2 more cents. We would also round the sales tax up to the nearest nickel also. For instance, a 7% sales tax on a $31 purchase would be $2.17, we would round that up to $2.20. The customer would be losing 3 cents, but that would meant that the state would be making a little bit more money to spend on roads, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Abraham Lincoln And Pop Culture In today's society Abraham Lincoln is still a popular figure in our culture. He was a common man that came from nothing but had big dreams for himself. Since Lincoln's death in 1865, we still see him in pop culture today. We find him on the flipped side of a penny, on Mt. Rushmore, and anything from movies to action figures. The most known about piece of pop culture Lincoln is depicted in is the movie "Lincoln." The movie shows Lincoln in the times of the Civil War. "Lincoln" shows the Congressional Debates all the way to the fighting done on the battlefields. Also, being showed was hard fighting that had to be done to win the fight against slavery. The aging of Lincoln and Grant telling Lincoln that he looked like he had aged 10 years since the previous year showed the toll the war had on Lincoln. A lot of hard work goes into being the President of theUnited States and it wasn't a walk in the park to completely abolish slavery. This movie had great meaning and was well thought out. Throughout this movie there was many different "Lincoln's" portrayed. The first Lincoln I thought that was portrayed is "Lincoln the Man of the People." Most people rarely use them, but the US mint makes nearly 7.5 billions pennies each and every year, but for what? Some say pennies have been around too long and you can't just get rid of them, however when you take into account that the penny costs more than it's face value then you might change your mind. It's time for pennies to go, on average all the pennies we make cost the US almost $900 million per year. Now this cost isn't even including the time, fuel, expenses, and the hassle of shipping all these pennies to the banks, just for everybody to throw them in a penny jar. Research shows that ... And we're not even counting all the time, fuel, expense, and hassle of carting all those pennies around to the banks, merchants, etc. If we stop making pennies in the first place, we save all this associated time and trouble, too" (Headley). If we just got rid of the penny we wouldn't have to pay the price for making therm, and for getting them everywhere, which could cost nearly as much as making all the pennies. On the flip side, some might say that if we got rid of the penny then we would have to round everything to the nickel, because of this we would have to make more nickels, which are even less economically efficient then the penny. What these people don't realize is that most goods, and services will round up to the nearest dollar, so we won't have to make nearly as many nickels as we would pennies. In conclusion the penny should be abolished because, we end up 1.924 billion dollars more in debt. The penny isn't worth it and has to go, it costs more to make then it is worth, so we are losing money, besides losing money we also lose time, the time to make the pennies and, to ship them everywhere. The smallest denomination in the U.S. worth only one cent, has been a part of this country for hundreds of years. This coinage has brought a significant effect on our strong American economy. But a problem has been brought up within the last couple decades on whether or not the penny shall be abolished or not. The penny has historical importance and is appreciated more than people believe pennies to be To the average person the penny only has one value and that is in the sense of the economy. If asked many people say the penny is worth one cent. Which it is but the penny has more than the economic value it exemplifies the history of the U.S. In source G, Pennies, it shows the two types of pennies one from the past around 1793 and one from the present. African America As A Nation Of Slaves In America "Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," Attorney General Eric Holder. I do believe that as a nation, we do steer away from controversial subjects as race, racism, and the old times of slavery. As a nation we have come a very good way from the past, slaves are no longer a part of everyday life, and for the most part there are equal opportunities, and laws for equal opportunities for anyone of all races, colors, and ethnic backgrounds. Through the years African Americans have been a target for slavery at the beginning of times to the still racial slurs people utter under their breaths. We as a nation need to come together as one and realize the considerable experiences African Americans have been through. In the late 1700's slaves were uprooted from their homes in West Africa, shackled and transported to the New World, where they were sold off. The conditions of the chambers where the African American slaves were held were deplorable, roomed with rats and given just enough food for survival. They endured physical and psychological trials from the European slave traders, who saw them as only a pretty penny. Many slaves did not make the full journey and died from smallpox. Coming forty–seven years or so later, a case was made against slavery and owning and selling the people of Africa by Edward Trelawny. Unfortunately, slaves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Monday, I helped complete our game. The game, similar to Apples to Apples, consists of several rounds. Each round someone draws a fallacy card and a topic card. Each player, except one who acts as judge, must make a logical fallacy specified on the card regarding the topic drawn. The judge chooses the best answer and the player who gets the point must then explain why their statement was fallacious and provide a correct alternative. This week, I helped to establish the rules and structure for the game and complete the set of thirty fallacy cards. For each fallacy card, I listed a specific logical fallacy and an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While working on the aforementioned game, I researched various logical fallacies and developed an understanding of their meanings and uses. For instance, I learned about the loaded question fallacy, which presents a question to an argumentative opponent, which implies guilt or makes the opponent seem guilty regardless of how they answer. I learned that this type of fallacy works most effectively (as a misdirection) when applied in contexts when the audience's views about the arguers' characters matter, such as in political debates and court cases held before a jury. Another example of a fallacy I learned about is the fallacy fallacy, which argues that an argument automatically becomes invalid when someone uses a fallacy to support it. In addition to learning about logical fallacies, I developed a clearer understanding of my group's standard by reviewing the example questions on Google Classroom and practicing making my own questions. From this practice, I learned that STAAR generally tests my group's standard (10A/B) by asking questions about the speaker's argument. These questions generally ask why the speaker uses certain language and what their opinions the speaker holds about certain topics based on what they said. I applied this knowledge by making my own STAAR–like questions modeled after the examples. In general, I learned the specific details of several new logical fallacies and the methods used by the STAAR test to test standard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I realized while standing in the checking line, people would rather use dollar bills instead of the piggy bank of pennies in their possession, not only because of limited utility, for instance, pennies are generally not accepted in vending and bulk machines, but also because the act of producing the penny cost more than the actual penny itself. So I ask myself, "Why use pennies? Should they be eliminated?" And if we do, indeed, eliminate the penny, merchants would find another technique, for example, decrease the price to $9.95, to not increase the price an extra digit. But I say, the realistic idea and goal for eliminating pennies is because their feeble purchasing power means dealing with coins and making change to the nearest cent is an uneconomic waste of time for the nation as a whole, because majority of us are affected by it. The United States either seems to be unaware or choose to be unaware of every other nation not only eliminating pennies, but some also eliminating coins, even their neighbor Canada. In Forbes magazine, Neena Moorjani said "It's practically useless in everyday life" (Lewis). In fact, the effort to abolish the penny would be enormous, and simply not worth the estimated benefits of such a monumental a change. In ridding our economy of the penny, the federal government would first need to convince a public greatly in favor of keeping the penny. As indicated by a poll by the Harris group public opinion shows a strong desire to keep the penny. One of the most prominent proponents of abolishing the penny, Professor Robert Whaples of Wake Forest University, also claim that the use of pennies in cash transactions add 2.5 seconds to each transaction adding 40 seconds to each employees day. If the average store clerk were making 15.00 per hour that penny is costing each American $60.00 per year and the American economy 15 billion dollars a year (Whaples, 2007). But as indicated by Professor Lombra, an economist at the University of Pennsylvania, "cash register clerks would not suddenly be free to stock shelves of clean stores if the penny were no longer in circulation. Moreover, rounding creates additional complexity at the cash register– that is, the cash or charge and round or not round character of each transaction – that will, if anything, increase the time associated with settling transactions, thereby aggravating any productivity loss rather than reducing it". There has been many speculation about whether or not the United States should abolish the penny from being minted any longer. Although the penny has been a part of the American culture since 1787, it has such a small value, it will always be a part of American history. So as the years go on we should realize that the penny is everything to theUnited States. The penny should not be eliminated from the money system due to the fact that it is a part of the American culture and has earned its respect over the years. In America, there is still a debate if the penny should be eliminated. If it was to be eliminated it would still be used, but in a minimal way. In Canada, the Canadian penny was eliminated due to cost, time, and the country believed it was a waste of money, "inflation reduced its purchasing power by 95% since it was first minted domestically in 1908: back then the cent could buy goods of the cost of $0.20, today in other words."(The Economist). Once a small coin can no longer be used to buy individual items at that price, but it is only used to make change, it becomes more trouble than it is worth. Despite being an advocate of the hard–money faction, which condemned all banks that issued banknotes, Jackson also opposed the bank because it went against his basic views. It restrained state banks from issuing notes freely and most advocates believed in rapid economic growth, which was the opposite of what Jackson believed in. Not being able to abolish the Bank before the expiration of its charter, Jackson weakened the bank by withdrawing the government's deposits from it. Nicholas Biddle carried the contraction of credit too far and having to reverse himself, his hopes of winning a recharter of the Bank died. After the destruction of the Bank, Jackson then went after the most powerful remaining institution of economic nationalism: the Supreme Court. After the death of John Marshall, Jackson appointed his ally, Roger B. Taney, as the new chief justice. The decision from the case of Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge of 1837 reflected another one of Jackson's basic views: "The key todemocracy was an expansion of economic opportunity, which would not occur if older corporations could maintain monopolies." Between the years of 1835 and 1837, canal and railroad builders were at the peak of activity resulting in a nationwide economic boom. For the first and only time in history, the government was out of debt and had a surplus in the Treasury. An 1836 "distribution" act required the federal government to pay the surplus to the states in four quarterly installments. • 30. Get Rid of the Penny The penny must be eliminated as quickly as possible. The United States is in massive debt and instead of cutting programs which are vital to the economy and to citizens of the United States, the United States must find ways to cut expenses in parts that are often over looked. One great way to cut down on unnecessary spending is the penny. Believe it or not, the penny, the smallest denomination of currency in theUnited States is a huge waste of money. The one cent denomination has no use. You can no longer "buy anything with a penny" anymore. (William) The only use the penny has is to pay for the taxes, which, can be rounded off to the nearest nickel thus obliterating the need for a penny. On top of not having a use, the penny is a big waste of time, literally. Gore, a graduate student at the University of California at Berkeley has made a calculation that approximately "four hours per person per year" is wasted on rummaging for pennies which in turn costs the nation "over $15 billion per year." (Kahn) These $15 billion could be used to create jobs, invest in renewable energy, or invest in education, all of which would greatly improve the nation while at the same time getting rid of a pointless coin. People admittedly do not favor change. Many have seen the statistics concerning how much it costs to maintain making pennies, the time it wastes and the overall problem it creates, but they still would not want to get rid of the penny. The Harris Poll has data supporting that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Essay On Why The USould Not Abolish The Penny Tanner Toussaint The United States should not abolish the penny. One of the examples of why the United States shouldn't abolish the penny is if the federal reserve changed the material the penny is made out of the cost of material will decrease. Secondly, the United States shouldn't abolished the penny because the tax on items would increase and force people into a situation where they don't know what items cost. Lastly, if the United States abolished the penny americans would be forced to use the nickel that cost more to make then the penny. For example, the United States should not abolish the penny because changing the penny to a different material would cost less and in contrast help more then getting rid of the penny. The cost to make one penny is more than the currency of a penny itself. Changing the material to something like steel will lower the money needed to create a penny. The cost of steel is really cheap and will make the cost of producing pennies cheaper and easier to make. • 34. Reasons To Abolish The Penny When talking about the penny there are two very distinct separate sides, one that says to get rid of the penny and one that says to keep it. People arguing to get rid of the penny say that it costs to much to make and we would be better off without it. While people rooting for the penny say that doing away with it would cause tons of problems with rounding. Personally I think that we as a county need to abolish the penny and I will show you why. One reason to abolish the penny is that we will get a boost in the economy due to large amounts, of now free to spend cash. • 35. Persuasive Essay On Tipping The United States is one of the few counties in the world still using the old fashion tipping system. "During the late 19th century legislature rapidly abolishes the practice of tipping when it is introduced by wealthy Americans. Eventually restauranteurs find a way to prospect of passing labor costs to consumer, which convinced the American to accept the practice of tipping." When many American don't understand the purpose of tipping is for but somehow it is customer responsibility to pay the restaurant employees based on their service. There are many reasons to argue about the tipping system. But, most of them ignore the very basic problem with abolishing tipping in America, the most difficult of which is our absurdly low minimum wage. The practice is abhorrent from a historical perspective. Recently, New York City's Sushi Yasuda owner Scott Rosenberg announced that he decided to eliminate tipping altogether. Following the custom in Japan, he decided to pay his employees higher wages and redistribute the cost to the customers by raising the prices on the menu. Is this a good idea? Rosenberg, who abolished tipping at his restaurant, made a very powerful statement against the Outdated of tipping practice. He penned what many others believe is one of the most succinct and yet irrefutable way. The staff no longer worry about making a lot of tip on weekend and penny on weekday. We need to follow suit with the other developed nations of the world. Removing the penny from our economy will save us countless dollars and resolve the inconveniences that the penny conceives. We need to do anything possible to help make theUnited States one step closer to the greatness that it once achieved. The primary reason to abolish the penny is cost. The U.S. and Canadian government believe that the penny is a nuisance and takes up space in cabinets and dressers. They believe that the penny should be taken out of the system. However the penny is a great influence on American culture, yet it causes a fortune to manufacture a single one. In the first place, the penny should be kept as American currency because of the great impact it holds. For instance in the article, The Ever–Changing Penny, the author states, "The history of a penny reveals... a piece of American culture. The one–cent piece has influenced our language... such as 'a penny for your thoughts'"(Story 5). As a result under this piece of evidence, the price of the penny is lowering every few years. The materials used to construct the penny could be changed to more common and cheap metals. An equally important piece of information comes from the article Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish?, where Sommer states, "The mint defer to Congress, and Congress hasn't told it to abolish the penny. Lawmakers have directed the mint to study ways to make small coins more cheaply"(Sommer 3). Provided the information, the mint has tried to reach out the Congress in hopes of getting an answer, yet the Congress never made a decision. • 38. Argumentative Essay On Abolish The Penny Pennies are one of America's oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that it has no wealth. America's classic coin the penny, is beginning to prove to be a second–rate coin when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves to be completely counterproductive in today's society. After debating of whether or not thepenny should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny is worthless, easily replaceable, and a waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely worthless to the modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the amount range of the penny. In "Abolish the Penny" William Safire writes that, "You can't buy anything with a penny any more. Penny candy? Not for sale at the five and dime (which is now a dollar store)...Any vending machines? Put a penny in it and it will sound an alarm." Clearly, there is an irony when it comes to "penny" candy, when you can't even use your one cent coin to purchase said sweets. When it all comes down to the bottom line, pennies can't be even remotely used to purchase any goods because of it's problematic value; it's mostly useless. Even the press secretary, Neena Moorjani, also believes the idea that "the penny is practically useless in everyday society" (source A). blah blah put what needs to be put here cause i have no idea? • 39. No Need for Pennies in Our Economy Essay Every day we buy things, and to purchase these items, most of us use credit cards or bills. Do we use pennies for virtually any transactions? The answer is no, we don't. Consequently, the penny is far and away the least useful monetary value we have. Pennies are inefficient and should be cut out of the currency. The rationale behind this conclusion is simple: the price tag of minting a penny is more than one cent. Unfortunately for the penny, two other reasons prove that we require it no longer. The first reason is that not only will the removal of pennies make us more effective, it will drop prices similar to what happened in Australia and New Zealand when they abolished their "pennies". The second is that we know that we do not need it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, who better to illustrate the need to abolish the penny than the very Department of Defense itself. In the Prairie News Register, David R. Carroll also explains, "It [Department of Defense] abolished the use of pennies... because pennies were considered 'too heavy' and 'not cost–effective to ship'" (Para. 2). Military bases overseas simply round transactions to the nearest five–cent denomination. Overall, this leads to faster transactions and more productive environments. Because the world we live in is based on competence and speed, even the slightest boost to our organization will have major positive effects on society, and the pennies will give us that slight boost. Unfortunately, some people believe that prices will rise in the event that the penny is discontinued, notwithstanding evidence to the contrary. Their reasoning being that businesses will have no incentive to drop prices, prices will not drop. In the rather unlikely event that this does happen, removing pennies will still be the better choice. According to "Penny Anti", "On average, the customer will lose two and a half cents in each transaction. If someone engages in two such transactions per day, over a year they would lose $18.25 compared with the person given their pennies" (Para. 12). The person given their pennies would lose an estimated average of $50 in time due to pennies. Furthermore, the government loses approximately $100 million, making the ... • 40. Argumentative Essay: America Should Abolish The Penny Have you ever felt like you wanted to get rid of something? That "something" might be the penny. Well, the penny's value has comedown so much, no one really cares about it anymore. The penny costs too much money to make so we are wasting time and money. The cash register takes a long time to count each penny so prices should be rounded. In my opinion, America should abolish the penny. First of all, the penny costs way too muchmoney to make. The US Mint makes 7 billion pennies per year for more than $100 million dollars. Instead of wasting money like this, we could use this money for other things like the army. We can use this money to defeat our enemies. Pennies are made of copper and zinc which are two metals that are really costly. These metals are so costly that if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when someone sees a penny on the road, they don't pick it up anymore. Inflation has taken away the value of the penny. It is simply no longer useful now. The penny has always been the coin with the lowest value so no one really cares about one cent. The penny should be abolished because nobody really cares about it any more. Third, the cash register person takes a long time to count each coin. For example, if the price was $1.92, and we gave the cash register $2, he would have to count 1 nickel and 3 pennies. Sometimes it could take a long time to count each coin. Other countries like Australia and Netherlands have rounded their prices and they are pretty successful. The U.S. has already taken away the half penny so they're not afraid to take the penny away. A simple way to abandon the penny would be to round each price to the nearest nickel. I think America should get rid of the penny. We should get rid of it because it costs too much money and no one cares about it anymore. We should also take away the penny because the cash register person takes too long to count the money. The penny is too old now. "Good Bye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
