2. 1 2 3 & 4 Shot 1 2 3 & 4 will be medium match
on action shots
The start of the music video will be
introducing the narrative character
and the mise-en-scene location of
the music video. He will we sat on a
bench with the skateboard. This
introduction will kick off the
skateboarding. I will use a match on
action to develop the increasing
momentum of the song and to
develop into the downhill motion.
The stuntman holding the camera
will exaggerate the skateboards
point of view.
3. 5 6 7 & 8 Shots 5 6 7 & 8 will be establishing
shots. Mostly long shots but
including close ups of the pavement
against skateboard in motion.
The stuntman will handle the camera
when skateboarding, I will use match
on action scenes to develop this and
convey a build up of momentum as
the camera travels downhill. The
camera will include panning shots
across the scenes of the sea and the
cliffs. This type of establishing shot
will enforce the unique style of the
music video.
4. 9
Shot 9 will be an extreme long shot
panning across the sea from a wide
angle – establishing the scene
As travelling downhill the camera will
cut to the skateboard wheels in
motion, this connotes the
momentum build up and the links
towards the sea. Then the camera
will cut to the sea as the momentum
builds up which will reinforce the
focus of the video.
5. 10 Shot 10 will be a medium low angle
shot of the surfer sat down on the
beach. The shot will be from behind
the surfer.
As both the video and the song build
up, I will introduce the narrative of
surfing by showing the stuntman in a
wetsuit sat with his surfboard next to
the waves. This presents him as
assessing the waves and getting
ready to escape into them. This
connotes my theme of escapism.
6. 11 Shot 11 will be a long shot from behind
the surfer running into the sea from the
side of the camera.
The lyrics; "I wanna run away" will sync
with the shot of the character running
into the sea with his surfboard in hand.
The camera will be behind the surfer to
provide a wide long shot of the surf and
the sea. This connotes his kingdom
within the waves and also the power of
the sea; as he runs into the power the
song alters into the more powerful
beats. This correlation and mirroring
between power and the beat will link
together to create an interesting style of
music video.
7. 12 – 20+ Shot 12 – 20+ will incorporate different
surfing Go Pro shots from the camera
on the surfboard. These shots will
create a montage of surfing.
This will be the highest momentum of
the video - I will use the Go Pro footage
of the character surfing, this will
establish the narrative and the theme of
escapism. The different edges of shot
will provide the sense of the audience
being held within the action of the
surfing. It will convey the power of the
waves and the strength of the surfer
finding his escape within them.
8. 21-25
Shots 21-25 will be further surfing clips,
there will be close ups of the surfer
paddling in the sea and also being
caught from the white water
This momentum will remain constant
through the higher beat of the song. But
different Go Pro angles will be
established to create excitement. This
excitement will take place in the upbeat
sections of the song. This mirroring of
power, speed and momentum between
the video and the song will enable
further audience attention.
9. 26 27 28 & 29
Shot 26 27 28 & 28 = 4 extreme close
ups of the singers face, lips eyes and
back to face. The close up allow the
audience to make a connection with the
artist.
The slower parts of the song will include
the close up shots of a girl lip syncing
with the song. I will also do an extreme
close up of her eyes to link with the
lyrics. The extreme close ups will help in
the audience recognition of the artist
which is conventional in music videos.
The artist will be exaggerated and the
camera focus will be on her face, lips
and eyes.
10. 30
Shot 30 long shot time lapse of the
beach and the waves.
My video will feature time-lapses of
the sea, I will show these in
correlation with the slower beats of
the music and to reinforce the theme
of the video. The outside view of the
sea from the beach will connote the
surfer’s perspective of the waves and
provide interesting shot styles for the
video.
11. 31 - 35
Shots 31-35 will be edited time lapses
of a plane taking off and landing. It will
be a mixture of close ups of the inside
of the plane and extreme long shot of
outside.
The theme of escapism will be
established through my time-lapses of
travelling, in a train and the taking off
and landing of a plane. This will convey
running away and it links in with the
unique aspects of this video. The time-
lapses will link in with the quick beat of
the video and signal time passing.
12. 36 – 40
Shots 36 – 40 will be another montage
of surfing from the Go pro camera close
up angle.
The video will then revert back to the
high momentum surfing, the shot of the
surfing will provide more excitement as
the audience will be part of the action.
These sections of Go Pro camera shots
will provide the most upbeat sections of
the video. It will keep the audience on
edge and interested in the video.
13. 41 – 45
Shots 41-45 will be further quick edits
between surfing shots which creates upbeat
connotations and gives the audience variety
to view
The power of the water will mirror the
power of the song and will reflect the
strength in the higher beats of the song and
the strength of the surfer and waves. It will
establish the theme and the focus of the
song from the music video. This type of
music video provides a unique edge
compared to other pop music videos. This
edge provides the videos USP
14. 46
Shot 46 will either be an extreme long shot
panning whilst on the skateboard. Or a
close up of the skateboard in motion to link
in with the decreasing beat of the song
Skateboarding also conveys the momentum
and the theme of running away. This
reflects the momentum of the song and will
be place accordingly in sections of the song
where the beat becomes faster and the
momentum builds up. The skateboarding
element will attract the male side of the
audience due to it’s stereotypical associated
sport.
15. 47 & 48
Shot 47 will be another close up of the
singer lip syncing the song
Shot 48 will be an extreme close up of the
singers lips
The girl singer provides the performance
element to work with the narrative. Her
direct mode of address will suggest her
power. She will be presented as the artist
and the singer. Her presence will also
provide a gender neutral stance. The male
stuntman will draw in the male teenager
audience from the male associated sports
(skateboarding and surfing) but the female
singer will provide a star appeal and a role
model for the female audience.
16. 49
Shot 49 will be the ending shot either a
time lapse of the sea or slow motion
editing to emphasise the slowing down
towards the end of the music.
The time-lapses will be used to signal
the ending of the song, the calm feel of
the ending will help reflect the calm
waves compared to the high motion
surfing. The ending of the song signals
through a style of fading. Therefore, I
may fade the ending section out to
reflect the song.
