1. Editor Profiles
Emily Hellewell uses the CMS every day. She oversees two
students and is responsible for producing news releases and
calendar content. She edits releases and accompanying
photos. She can choose what stories are displayed on
news.byu.edu. She also can change the Address Book. Emily
produces the print and electronic Y News and serves as the university’s mass
email manager. Emily worked at NPR, where she produced the internal
newsletter using an in-house CMS.
Joe Hadfield produces news features that often include
photos and videos. He edits photos and oversees two
students. Joe’s features are often displayed on the BYU
Home Page and are often placed in prestigious national
publications. He sometimes emails the URLs of stories to
national editors or talks about them over the phone before the stories
become public. Joe has a strong analytical background and gathers data
about how well stories are read to guide decisions about where and how long
they are displayed on the website. Joe manages our Facebook page.
Todd Hollingshead’s profile is a lot like Joe’s in that he
produces news features with photos and videos. Todd’s
features are often displayed on the BYU Home Page and
are often placed in prestigious national publications. He
sometimes emails the URLs of stories to national editors or
2. talks about them over the phone before the stories become public. Todd also
maintains YFacts. He has good design skills, which are displayed in the printed
version of YFacts. Todd tweets news items.
Jon McBride’s duties overlap Todd’s and Joe’s in that he
produces news features with photos and videos. He was the
web manager at Weber State University before coming
here, so he’s savvy about web stuff, not so much the back
end but the presentation layer. Jon has responsibility for
helping us maximize the potential of social media. He manages our YouTube
and Instagram accounts.
Julie Walker uses NewsNow maybe once or twice a year.
She produces video and film for the department. She also is
an accomplished writer and sometimes writes up a release
about the subject of a video. She has to learn the system
each time she uses it, so the more intuitive it is the better.
Brent Harker is retiring next year, so you don’t need to
know anything about him.
