1. What is a hash tag, it’s meaning and why
should I be using it…?
Definition: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was
created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.
Hashtags can be used anywhere in a tweet and it’s a way for people to direct multiple
Twitter messages to a single news event or topic.
I find it funny how things just suddenly “come about” and become well known..I want to
know who the VERY FIRST PERSON is who decided to invent the “hash tag”!!!
I guess no one will ever know, I never knew what a hash tag was less than a year ago and
now I’m all about the hash tags…although I don’t overdue it and go hash tag crazy…but I
also don’t use it on Twitter..where it originated..
I use it mostly on Instagram…and now facebook is in the works of getting on the hashtag
train
Facebook is working on incorporating the hashtag, one of Twitter’s most iconic
markers, into its service by using the symbol as a way to group conversations,
said people familiar with the matter. It is unclear how far along Facebook’s
work on the hashtag is and the feature isn’t likely to be introduced imminently,
these people said…
Hastags are a great way for people to connect on a global scale and come together on a
common interest..
On Twitter,you can click on the hashtag to see a real-time feed of other tweets using that
keyword. Tweets using this hashtag will also be displayed in a real-time feed when
someone searches for the term on Twitter.
It is thought that 2 or 3 hash tags per tweet is sufficient and to not over due it.
Like I stated earlier, they pop up on many social networks…
Instagram people use them as short term creative expression…because typing it all out is
much too difficult…when clicked on instagram it will pull up all pictures with the same
hashtag..similar to tweets.
It can be used on Pinterest too, The main difference between a Pinterest hashtag and a
hashtag on another social networking site is that clicking a Pinterest hashtag doesn’t give
you results that also have that hashtag. What it does is conduct a search for that word after
the # symbol.

2. Why Should I be using Hashtags..?
I mean, if you haven’t guessed it already…it’s a great way to get your social account out
there, especially to people with the same interests as you..
Especially true with Twitter if you’re looking to get more followers..
Great tool to advertise business’s..you’ll see and read a lot of celebrities hashtagging a lot of
their favorite restaurants or clothing line…all in the name of promotion and marketing..
It’s an opportunity for people to get in touch with millions of people..and create social
popularity…
