In this presentation, I will be talking about the various
job roles that are needed in the film industry.

2. Job roles in the film industry
The film industry includes many various job roles to making film, these are technical, creative,
editorial, managerial, sales and marketing, administration and financial.
Technical:
Sound Editor - the Sound Editor is responsible for assembling and editing all the sound effects in the soundtrack to the film.
Production Sound Mixer - the Production Sound Mixer is head of the sound department on set and is responsible for
recording all sound during filming. This involves the choice and use of microphones, operation of a sound recording device,
and sometimes the mixing of audio signals in real time.
Creative:
Director - the director is responsible for overseeing the creative aspects of a film which includes the controlling of content
and flow to the films plot, directing the performance of Actors, selecting and organizing locations in which the film will be
shot, managing technical details like positioning of cameras, use of lighting and the films soundtrack.
Make-up Artist - the Make-up Artists work with makeup, hair and special effects to create the characters look for anyone
appearing on screen. Their role is to manipulate an Actor's on-screen appearance.
Editorial:
Film Editor - the Film Editor assembles the various shots into a coherent film, with the help of the Director. The film editor
works with the raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences to create a finished motion picture.
Colorist - using a photochemical process, the color timer adjusts the color of the film via printer lights for greater consistency
in the film's color.

3. Job roles in the film industry
Managerial:
Production Manager - The Production Manager supervises the physical aspects of the production including personnel, technology,
budget, and scheduling. It is the Production Manager's responsibility to make sure the filming stays on schedule and within its
budget.
Unit Manager - The Unit Manager fulfils the same role as the production manager but for secondary "unit" shooting.
Sales and Marketing:
PR Assistant - Supports the Distribution team through administration and office management as well as specific involvement in
campaign implication, this will include working with closely with the Sales, Marketing and Publicity departments.
Sales Executive - Responsible for identifying opportunities and generating revenue for their Film clients, this will be across a range of
verticals including Entertainment, Retail, Transport, Maritime sectors, both in the UK and Internationalmarkets.
Administration:
System Administration - A System Administrator is a person employed to maintain and operate a computer system or network. This
role is increasingly important for digital monitors on set, digital intermediate editing and post production, digital effects, digital
sound, and for full digital production.
Financial:
Accountant - Production Accountants manage the money and ensure the production comes in on budget and everyone gets paid.
The industry is notorious for unusual accounting methods which are collectively labelled Hollywood accounting.
