Final Idea
In a Nutshell
• In a nutshell
• 2 different performance locations, the modern tram and the old
steel mining district. The narrative is an extended croquet
scene, an intertextual reference to the cult movie Heathers, set
in a bizarre outside living room with gender-bent Heather
characters playing croquet.
Performance –
the tram
• set in Luxembourg's modern tram,
with brightly coloured glass doors
and good lighting
• Aem lip-synching and dancing
• A cameo from another
Luxembourgish musical artist, as a
passenger to stands up and walks
past Aem (they could nod at each
other or wave, we'll try a few things
and see what looks best)
• Use of colour masks - experiment
with in post to make colours pop,
and contrast with black and white
Performance - Old
railway/mining district
• set in Luxembourg's old mining district/train
station, with large steel structures everywhere
• We can film at several of the steel structures
• put camera on tripod. leave still. Have Aem
dancing and lip-synching, and at points in the
song where her voice is layered, have her
come out from behind different steel structures
and dance/lip-synch, edit it so there are
several of her on the structure at once
• experiment with her or the camera being
hidden or moving through the steel structures
"Narrative" - croquet
• having a bizarre "outside living room" with carpet, chairs or a sofa, coffee table with beverages and games (chess or
cards) on it
• croquet is set up around the living room, and the 3 Heathers and Aem's character are playing croquet + drinking form
fancy champagne glasses/playing chess or cards
• experiment with shots of croquet using GoPro, putting it on the pats, above the balls, on the goal posts
• A buttler appears with a fancy tray and lifts the lid
• On the tray is a fancy glass vase or ash tray of cake stand, filled with brightly coloured tic tacs or gummy bears or
chewing gum
• The heathers walk to him and take the food, eating it
• they become more aggressive, trying to grab each others food
• They begin to shout at each other and pull each others hair
• the croquet bats get involved in their fighting, slow motion can be used a lot here
• for impact of the climax of the song when the bass kicks in, having a croquet bat about to hit another Heather in slow
motion could be good
Intertextuality
• The 3 Heathers from the film Heathers, a cult classic, has an older,
secondary target audience appeal
• BUT – more recently has resurfaced in pop culture as a broadway
musical, and a special episode of the extremely popular teen tv show
Riverdale
• The bizarre nature of the croquet game and outdoor living room is
quite psychedelic and draws influence from Alice In Wonderland,
again and older secondary target audience could get the nod to
Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit
Characters
• all the Heathers will be gender bent, focus on performatitvity/deconstruction of gender:
men wearing feminine clothing and heavy bright make-up
• Heather 1
• red themed, playing croquet
• Heather 2
• green themed, playing croquet
• Heather 3
• yellow themed, playing croquet
• Winona Ryder/Christian Slater
• will be played by Aem, a mash-up between the protagonist and antagonist/love
interest, mostly shown through the costume (signature trenchcoat and dungaree
look)
• Butler
• Hoping I can get a woman to be the butler so gender bent, meant to look like a
classic butler wearing suit and bowtie. stoically standing to the side of the living
room the whole time until they lift the lid of the tray and the Heathers take the food
