1. SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE AND INA
Born : 23 Jan 1897 – Cuttak in Odisha in Bengali family.
Bose was arrested for anti-British work in 1940. He went on a hunger strike. As his health was declining rapidly, govt
released him and kept him in house arrest in Kolkata. He escaped and reached Berlin through Russia. He met Hitler to
seek help to for the independence of India.
In 1942, Japanese occupied British colonies Malaya, Singapore and started associations. The Indian Independence
League was also started under the guidance of Ras Bihari Bose. (Escaped to Japan in 1915).

➢ Bangkok conference was Presided by Ras Bihari Bose.
➢ Hoisted Tri-colour flag.
➢ INA officially launched on 1942. Mohan Singh – Commander-in-chief.
➢ Bangkok Conference – Indian Independence League should supply men, money, material to INA.
➢ He was fondly called Netaji by people.
➢ Give me blood and I shall get you freedom – Bose
➢ Trained fighting brigades. Troops named after Gandhi, Subhash, Azad, Nehru
➢ Women brigade started names Rani Jhansi – Dr. Laxmi Swaminathan
➢ His army occupied when Japan handed over Andaman and Nicobar. He named as Swaraj islands.
➢ INA reached 200 kms and captured many places from British.
➢ When INA reached IMPHAL (Manipur) Japan withdrew its aeroplane and forces due to confrontation with
America.
➢ Heavy rain was also an obstacle
➢ Japan surrendered due to Hiroshima and Nagasaki attack in 1945.
➢ It was believed that Netaji was killed in flight crash at Tokyo.
➢ After his death INA officers were prosecuted (Sued). This enraged Indians and protests common.
➢ Later, those leaders were released.
➢ INA was May not be successful in achieving goal but set an example for patriotism
➢ Britishers realised that Indian soldiers can not be treated as Mercenaries.
Impact of INA: Though INA did not succeed fully in achieving its objective but is inspired example of patriotism and
sacrifice before the Indian people.
It created political consciousness among the Indian forces.
