3. Content/Storyline
- Follows an American man dreaming of a better quality of life back
home in NYC America.
- He’s currently a student in the UK, longing to return home.
- He’s wandering aimlessly around Newcastle Upon Tyne, his current
home, taking in his surroundings. He has the hope of moving back
home, to strive for better things.
- Brief sequences filmed in New York represent his thoughts and
dreams of living back in America.
- The man is clearly troubled, but by what we don’t know, although
there are cuts to very brief footage of 9/11 and one of the shots in
New York pans across the names of victims at the Twin Towers
memorial to imply some connection between the disaster and the
man. This is deliberately elliptical.
- He portrays loneliness and sorrow.
