1. EVALUATION AND SWOT ANALYSIS
After the first meeting with the client, I have as suggested, changed some of the dialogue
around as to make it the scene flow better. This was to make the dialogue sound more
conversational. I also changed some of the format, to ensure some things were written in the
correct place - for example 'FADE IN' and they way in which some of the stage directions are
written.
Following my second client meeting, I have changed some of the dialogue, to make it sound
more conversational as before and I have also taken out some swear words in the third and
final draft, so as to ensure the age certificate will remain a '15'. In addition, I have added in a
new scene to make the film slightly longer and to give some context to film. This was also
done to help the audience understand more about the characters. I refer to the new 'Scene 3'
as of script draft 3, where I have added in a scene where the narrator explains who Alexeyev
is and why his nickname is 'Alex the Axe'. I also added another small paragraph for the narrator
in the final scene in which they explain more about the characters.
I feel I have met the expectations for the client, brief and target audience as I have taken the
feedback provided and acted on it accordingly. Such as when advised to reduce use of
offensive language in the script as to ensure the certificate remains a 15. By doing so, I
followed guidance and feedback of the client and kept to the intended target audience of my
film. I have also ensured that my film is only just longer than ten minutes so as to keep to the
brief as it is only a short film.
I also produced a fully formatted industry standard script, which I did so effectively with the
feedback of the client, as mentioned above; for example, when I had written things such as
‘FADE IN’ in the incorrect place, I had to go back and amend it in the second script draft.
Accompanying this is the shooting script which will aid me in filming the short film in regards
to the shot types, when to use them and for what duration.
When producing the script and planning the film in general, I have ensured all legal and ethical
requirements have been met so as to comply with the rules of the BBFC and ‘Short of the
Week’. An example of such is ensuring that all copyright material I intend to use has the
permission of the rightful owners. In this case, I have written an email to the record label of
the Stone Roses as I intend to use their song, ‘Fool’s Gold’ in the film. An example of ethical
requirements I have met is ensuring I have stuck to the guidelines of a 15 age certificate – this
is in keeping with my intended target audience.
Overall, I am pleased with what I have produced so far, however I think I could have produced
a better script and invested in higher quality equipment, professional actors and special effects
had I had a higher budget. Due to this, I felt I had to reduce my script so as to keep to my
allocated budget, which I think affected the quality of the storyline. Despite this, I am pleased
with what I have produced on the budget I had.
STRENGTHS
I believe I have developed a good, strong
story that will resonate with the target
audience – that being fans of classic crime
films of the 90s and 00s by directors like
Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. As I
believe I have achieved this, I see it as a
strength.
Another strength of my script is that I
believe the character profiles are very solid
WEAKNESSES
Though I have experience in writing, I have
never written a script before so at the start it
was hard for me to begin. I still think I could
improve my writing style and aspects of the
dialogue in particular, however I am happy
with it at the moment.
2. and the audience will be able to have a firm
grasp on the way the characters are; for
example, although the film is meant to be
serious, Gary is a more comedic character
and so elements of humour are there
throughout film.
OPPORTUNITIES
The goal for this short film was to create a
professional looking crime film set in the
early 2000s, which draws influence from
directors such as Tarantino and Ritchie.
THREATS
One obstacle for the making of this film is
my limited skill behind the camera and
editing as I have had little experience in this
aspect.
