1. In what ways does your
media product use, develop
or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products ?
2. I have created a collage showing what i deem to be the
most important parts of my music video.
3. This is the title shot of my Music video. I designed this shot to
show a few things. We can tell through this shot that the
video is set in britain, near a woodland and has something to
do with dogs (pawprints across the screen). A very similar
shot is later shown in the video, marking the start of the
journey/ walk the dogs and artist will embark upon.
4. This medium close up
shot introduces the puppy
as a character in my music
video. Although its not
conventional to have an
animal as the protaginist
for my narrative, I feel the
use of a puppy adds a
'feel good' factor to my
music video that makes
people happy. Breakdown
is an upbeat song so i feel
these two elements work
well together.
However, there are other examples of music videos that use animals. For
example, Weezer in their 'Spike Jonze' version of 'Island In The Sun'. Use many
animals such as lion cups, bears and chimpanzees.
5. When I was researching the
indie folk genre i found that
natural landscape shots
where common. I also
discovered that a lot of other
videos used sunsets as an
obvious transition between
day and night. This is also
used in the official music
video for Breakdown by jack
Johnson as shown below:Another reason why i used
this shot is because it has
woodland in it thus helping to
establish the location of the
film later on.
Due to the rooted nature of folk
music it seems common for
natural lighting and colouring to
prevail. Therefore, i only used
colour correction to balance
rather than emphasise red
green or blue within the shots.
6. Close up performance shots
are a common feature of
folk/acoustic music videos.
Interistingly, I recorded this shot
by tying the camera to the head
of my guitar with elastic bands.
An example of a shot being used
in a professional production is on
the left with the music video for
Boyce Avenue's acoustic cover of
Thinking Out Loud by Ed
Sheeran.
7. It is common for Videos
of the indie folk genre to
feature shots based
around nature. This is
why i added close up
shots such as the fly
that feature wildlife or
plants such as the
dandelion.I also wanted
to put in shots that
seemed more summer-
like to contrast with the
snow sequence filmed
in wintertime.
8. This long shot is in the collage because it is an
example of when i have matched the lyrics of the song
with the footage. The scene above is playing along
with the lyrics "All the people in the street
Walk as fast as their feet can take them
I just roll through town"
9. The majority of my music video is set in a woodland
setting. I decided to use the woods as my main location
for shooting because it seemed that it was common for
indie folk music videos to take place in simlar locations.
An example of this is the choice of location for
Passengers music video for his song 'Heart's On Fire'
(similar woodland)
10. As part of the journey the dogs take, they walk in a
line over a large fallen tree in the woods. I got the
inspiration for this from The Lion King in the 'Hukana
Matata' musical sequence. I realise the Lion King is'nt
Indie Folk. However, I liked the idea so i thought i
would challenge convention and go ahead with it
anyways.
11. I ended my music video with this medium close up shot
and a recorded bark sound. I chose to do this because
it allows the narrative to come back to where it started
and form a cyclical storyline. It is also a sweet and
happy way to end the video that wwill hopefully make
the viewer smile.
