Monument of Lysicrates
The Monument of Lysicrates is the best preserved choragic monument inAthens, Greece. Inancient times, statues like this one
were built as a base for placing trophies. Theater competitions were organizedeach year, andthe sponsor of the winning
performance wona trophy. Thisparticular one wasbuilt byLysicrates, a wealthycitizenof Athens, in the 4th centuryBC. It
