1. 1. The task Manna Ross Emmanuel
  2. 2. Vector images – are abstract. The computer assembles the image based on mathematical information, so is only suitable if the image consists of abstract components. Images that need to be scaled are best presented as vector images. Vector image Bitmap image Bitmap-based images – formulated onto a standard grid. Clarity is lost when images are viewed close up as a result. They are commonly used for displaying photographic images.
  3. 3. WWW Graphics…..

To formulate the GIF,the original image is compressed.

A hash table describes the way that the graphics have been compressed, and is attached to the image file

The colour palette is limited, so complex graphics do cannot be reproduced effectively.

Source: http://www.widearea.co.uk/designer/bars.html
  4. 4. PNG – Portable Network Graphics

Has very limited scope for animations

  5. 5. JPEGs…..

Involves the discarding of various components of the image

The image is constructed around a grid which is used to identify curvature in the image.

Curvature which plays a less significant role in the final image is removed.

http://www.widearea.co.uk/designer/ducks.html
  6. 6. Flickr!!!

This is a popular web site allowing users to share photos

Categorised

  7. 7. 5.What is lossless compression? Do JPEG format files normally use this? Why is it important?

JPG and GIF use different method of compression the image

GIF's compression is called "lossless" = "doesn't lose quality" when compressed.

JPG using “Lossy” compression= a part of the information of the image will be throw away every time saved.

From the Website:<http://www.siriusweb.com/tutorials/gifvsjpg/> JPG [60% Compression] 4 KB JPG [15% Compression] 6 KB GIF=5 KB
  8. 8.

However, in photos because of the size of the image, there is not much much difference in quality until zoom in. However, there will be a difference in their saving SIZE:

                       GIF=22 KB                        JPG=4 KB
  9. 9. Colour palette

A collection of colours that have defined for use with a design system. For example of small colour palette: Tango colour palette consist of 27 RGB colour.

  10. 10. 7.BAD about using .bmp format files in your work? Why should you try to avoid this?

As related to the slide of .bmp ,the .bmp image are divide the image into standard grid, and formulate each grid’s colour so the over all zoom out image will display the image. However, if in a low resolution format e.g. 12-bit-colourBMP, and with large zoom out, this effect can be display easily, and resulting with a very poor quality image.

To avoid this, a higher resolution of format is used e.g.256-bit-colour is used to avoid this effect, or simply save it in other format.
