  3. 3. Save Your Photos Right! <ul><li>There are many wrong ways to save photos… </li></ul><ul><li>To save them correctly you must have the correct: </li></ul><ul><li>File Type </li></ul><ul><li>Image Mode </li></ul><ul><li>dpi / ppi </li></ul>
  4. 4. Save As…File Type <ul><li>There are several common file types used in photography, printing, video and on the internet such as: . gif, .jpg-jpeg, .tif, .png </li></ul>
  5. 5. Save As…File Type <ul><li>TIF - Tagged Image File format is a lossless compression format developed by Adobe for photos. It is one of the main standards in the printing business. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Save As…File Type <ul><li>JPEG - File type created by the Joint Photo Experts Group . It is a lossy compression style, but it is the least lossy and is standard on most cameras. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Save As…File Type <ul><li>GIF - Graphics Interchange Format . This is an 8-bit file format created by Compuserve specifically for small images to be used on the Internet. I also allows for animated images. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Save As…File Type <ul><li>PNG - Portable Network Graphics . This is a 24-bit graphic format created by Unisys to replace GIF files on the Internet. It also supports transparency, which GIF does not. </li></ul>

  10. 10. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>Bitmap is a very old style of graphics very similar to halftones used in newspapers created with dots </li></ul>
  11. 11. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>RGB is a color mode used in photography and on video screens. RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue . It is used to see photographs on a computer or TV screen and on the Internet. All web photos must be in RGB mode. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>RGB is an additive color mode. If you add red to blue you get purple. The concept is that all three light colors add up to create white light. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>CMYK is a color mode using in photography and printing. CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. </li></ul>
  14. 14. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>CMYK is a subtractive method of color because you subtract a percentage of an ink color in order to get a lighter shade. </li></ul>
  15. 15. Save As…Image Mode <ul><li>Grayscale is more commonly called black and white . This is mainly used in printing for newspapers or magazines instead of color. </li></ul>
  16. 16. Save As…Dots Per Inch <ul><li>D ots P er I nch is actually a printing term and in photography it should be expressed as pixels per inch. </li></ul><ul><li>Both are somewhat used interchangeably, but there is a difference between square pixels and round dots. </li></ul>
  17. 17. Save As…Dots Per Inch <ul><li>In general standard TV pixels are round as are the dots created by ink jet and laser printers. </li></ul><ul><li>New HDTV pixels are square as are the pixels on computer monitors. </li></ul>
  18. 18. Save As…How many dpi? <ul><li>The number of dpi is important and is based on the final use of the photo. </li></ul><ul><li>In general: </li></ul><ul><li>Web: 72 dpi </li></ul><ul><li>Newspaper: 200 dpi </li></ul><ul><li>Magazines: 300 dpi </li></ul>
