7. The first Korean state was established by the hero Tan 'gun, whose father was a god and whose mother was a bear. Another legend relates that it was brought into being by a royal descendant of the Chinese Shang Dynasty. These legends manifest two sides to the expansion of the Korean culture. On one side, the Koreans were a discrete people who developed their own native traditions. On the other side, their culture was shaped by Chinese influences since early dynastic times. 10. The Silla rule weakened toward the tenth century. Then Wang Kon (rebel officer) gained control of Korea and became king around 935. Kon named his dynasty The Koryu Dynasty. This information was taken from page 311 in WORLD HISTORY: Patterns Of Interaction textbook The Koryu Dynasty’s government came from Chinas central government. Also Confucianism was used in schools to train male scholars. Later the society was divided into two. One side was aristocracy and the other were the rest of the society.
