Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy. He apprenticed under the sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence from 1466-1472, where he learned painting techniques. Some of his early works include assisting with "Baptism of Christ" and his first solo work "the perspective of disappearance" in 1473.
