Setting
• Typically set in and urban setting
such as a beach, a school or a
local diner.
• The settings used in Romance films
are typically known as where a
chance encounter may take
place.
• Sometimes Romance films can
use big cities as a setting such as
New York.

Sound
• Sound that is used in Romance
films shows the mood of the
characters and the mood of the
film.
• If the movie is sad then the
music will generally use just one
instrument to create the lonely
and sad environment.
Sometimes soft lyrics are also
used to create a lonely mood.
• However if the romance film
when something good happens
to the lead character an
upbeat and cheerful song is
used.

When Georgia and Robbie get together
Diegetic and Non
Diegetic Sound
• Musical instruments that are
used to create mood can either
be diegetic or non-diegetic.
• A guitar is used in the fault in our
stars as a way of showing that
the main character is in a bad
mood and the support working is
trying to lift it. This is diegetic
sound.
• Non diegetic sound is used
when music is played over the
top of the scene. To show the
characters feelings.

Costumes
• In the Romance Genre
costumes are very genetic
they wear everyday clothes
that are specific to the time
period.
• On a Romantic date the
audience would expect the
man to wear a suit and the
women to wear a elegant
dress.
• They would wear brighter
coloured clothes as they are
in happy period of their lives
My Film
Setting - My film will have 2 locations, it will be set in a college
and inside a house allowing the audience to see when the
disruption of the equilibrium occurs.
Sound – I will use diegetic to show where the setting is such as
background chatter when filming in the college, I will then use
non-diegetic music to create suspense over the audience while
she is taking a pregnancy test.
Props – The main props I will use for my film will be a car and a
pregnancy test but to the genre obvious I will have flowers on the
table to make it obvious.
Costumes – My main character will be wearing very casual
clothes such as Jeans and a T-Shirt this will show that she has
been to a place where it is more acceptable to wear casual
clothes.
