4. Responses to ‘What did you like about
the film?’
1. “The use of various camera angles and movements”
2. “Suspenseful build up. Atmospheric shots and unusual music. It made me want to know
what was going to happen next.”
3. “very atmospheric; I liked the music building suspense; the camerawork had a similar feel
to it - floaty yet oppressive; changes of POV were well done”
4. “Interesting/unusual camera angles which were very effective.”
5. “The lighting and location are very effective in building up the tension and enigma of the
sequence. This coupled with the music engenders an intriguing opening sequence; as a
viewer I felt encouraged to watch more.”
6. “Brilliant shots panning out. Great use of nature. Really professional!”
7. “the start of the movie was good because of the music. I liked the dynamic shot where the
audience was exposed to the character 'dead'.”
8. “It was quite an interesting display, I thought the camera skills were tip top, the music was
well placed alongside the shots, keeping a mysterious feel to the film. Keeps the viewer
playing the guessing game and watch till the end.”
9. “The sounds chosen were really good and the close up filming was very powerful.”
10. “The settings was very dramatic. The way he filmed Victor coming out of the building was
professional, especially as he sped it up and slowed it down at times. The ;music was also
quite atmospheric”
11. “I'm a main actor”
12. “Good wildlife shots at great quality”
5. Response to ‘What did you dislike
about the film?’
1. “The choice of music and the lack of dialogue”
2. “Nothing really”
3. “The Universal logo - why not let your work stand on its own. Being really picky, there were
a couple of fades near the start that I felt were a bit too quick”
4. “Sound played while Victor's credit was on the screen scared the ____ out of me.”
5. “At two points 0:53 and 1:11 the editing pace increases. I feel this removes some of the
tension from the sequence - by keeping the editing a constant, slower pace, it would
produce more suspense.”
6. “Unseen on the close ups when following Victor through the woods. They seemed amateur
compared to the quality of the other shots you've taken.”
7. “The ending, its boring and loses my interest. Doesn't have enough actors. It's takes to
long for actor to walk around, more action of some sort.”
8. “On the whole it's not a bad effort, probably rate 7/10. Although the first minute and a half
or so is quite repetitive.”
9. “The length of time it took him to walk up the hill?”
10. “no action other than me”
11. “the actor wasn't as good as he could have been”
6. Response to ‘What improvements do
you think need doing?’
1. “The end shots need more focus on facial expression to gain a flavour of the emotions that the
protagonist was experiencing”
2. “See above about the Universal bit”
3. “No obvious improvements! Very good!”
4. “Slow down some of the editing so it's more equal.”
5. “On "a film by, George O'Reilly" make the writing shorter. It's too tall. If possible find a different
way to film Victor walking in the woods. I don't quite understand how Chalk relates to anything
I saw in the film either.”
6. “The credits of George O'Reilly, isn't great, was very clear to read, too fuzzy. The Actors credit
doesn't go with the whole video. Actor needs to look more serious.”
7. “Alright so, Firstly around 51 seconds ish there is some kind of transition which doesn't quite
work, flashes with a black screen for a fraction of a second. Next there is too much low down
grass panning shots in the first minute and a half, some Arial shots would be nice to add
emphasis to the jungle. Also I think some more natural noises are need alongside the music
towards the beginning, for example a bird call would do nicely, this adding contrast to the
natural setting you have chosen. Even something such as the crackling of a fire would add a
more natural feel to the film. Also when your filming the shot of your bloke inside the enclosure
you can add more dramatic effects, maybe close ups or some side angles to really add to the
mysterious image you are creating. Again towards the end some more long range panning
shots through the trees would add more depth to the film. The last shots about half an hour
longer than it needs to be, but apart from that not a lot else.”
8. “Maybe shorten where he walks up or you could do closer shot of him walking”
