10. In reaching the peak of our
goals, there a lot of options
we have to undergo and we
can never say that future is
by destiny, it is by choice and
with these options, we can
never tell that we picked the
right one until it’s proven.
11.
12. Many times in my life, I had
chosen a lot of options, of
decisions between and among
countless choices; some had
succeeded and some failed but if
there is one thing I chose that I
will never regret the most, it is
when I chose to be in the field of
Advance Reserve
Officer Training Corps
(ROTC).
13.
14. But the field I have
chosen isn’t that plain.
We all know that
everything has got to be
in the process and this
was the reason why I
almost gave up and turn
back from that decision
I made… but I never did.
15. I did not gave up
because I
wanna show
them that
somehow I can
plunk on my
decision and
that I am
strong enough
to fight for
what I believe
in.
16. In pursuing my decision, I
experienced to be downed
and humiliated, to be
discriminated and cheated
physically, emotionally,
morally and
psychologically.
17. Physically, I was hurt through
making my self the mop of
the floor while rolling on it,
pinched my own ears through
500 counts of pumping,
weakening of my shoulders
thru 55 counts of push ups,
thighs and knees ache
because of marine exercise
and the worst? The paddle
that traced my upper leg
which can be seen ‘til now..
18. Emotionally, I was wounded by
the words of course that are
being uttered in that four
cornered room whenever I or
anyone of my buddies have
committed mistakes, and you
know what hurts the most? It is
when you are being punished
because of some certain fault or
mistake that you never made.
But then again, it’s just a matter
of “All for one, one for all” and
this is the rule that can never be
broken when it comes to
military .matter.
19. Morally and
psychologically, I
experienced how my
dignity as a human
had once became
indistinguishable. The
feeling of being just
like a make fun of or
somewhat called
“basahan”.
20. That’s just the first method
in the process of being a
cadet officer. Just like the
process of every choice we
make in life; the pain, the
bleeding and the sacrifice
even the very little part of
yours.
27. Life in ROTC is not a plain
challenging trainings and orders but
also a field wherein a person like me
can be motivated and be socialized.
Courtesy and discipline had
inculcated in me. We also had formal
gatherings such as socialization and
acquaintances. In fact, because of
ROTC, I have learned to get out from
my shell and proved myself that I
can be more than what they think of
me.
28.
29.
30.
31. After a couple of
years, I am now one of
the first class
designated as the
Corps S3- Training
Officer.
32.
33. In ROTC, the most difficult position is
like mine, because, you will be the
one to lead and you should have the
“must-be-followed” character or you
should have enough guts to be
followed when leading, furthermore,
you are responsible of maintaining
the harmonious relationship to your
men. As the saying goes, “great power
comes great responsibility as to
higher rank comes great obligation.”
34. Men
who adopt the profession of arms submit their
own freewill to a law of perpetual constraints of
their own accord. They resist their right to live
where they choose, to say what they think, to dress
as they like from the moment they become soldiers.
It needs but an order to settle from this place, to
move them to that, to separate them from their
family and dislocate their normal lives.
In the word of command they must rise, march, run
endure bad weather and go with out sleep or food.
Be isolated in some distant post and work until they
drop. They have to be the master of their own fate.
If they drop on their tracks, If their ashes are
scattered to the four winds that is all part and
parcel of their job
35. If
you work for a man in heavens name, work for
him speak well of him and stand by institution
he represent
Remember an ounce poverty is worth a pound of
cleverness, Resign your position when you are in
the outside to your heart content
But as long as you’re a part of this institution do
not condemn it
If you do the first high winds that comes along
and will blow you away and probably you will
never know why?
