4. Decision making
▪ In most horror films , the characters
make bad decisions which lead to the
plot of the film.This adds an element of
tension, because as the viewer you can
predict what is going to happen even if
the character can not.
▪ For example, a common mistake is when
a character goes to investigate an
unusual noise leading to their demise.
5. Atmosphere/setting
▪ To add effect the setting of a horror film usually has low-key lighting
and is generally a dark or rainy night.
▪ Darkness is a common fear, and also creates tension cause you are
unable to see and the viewers are expecting something scary to
happen.
6. Narrative structure
Generally there is usually a weak damsel in
distress and the antagonist is male and
scary, there is no hero.
Another popular structure is the group of
naïve and troublesome teenagers trying to
have fun and it backfiring.
