The University of Guyana established in 1963 has over 5000 students pursuing over 60 programs. Its mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge through free inquiry. It has faculties including Agriculture/Forestry, Natural Sciences, and Technology with Civil Engineering departments offering courses in hydrology, water/waste engineering, and water resources. The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers courses in environmental chemistry, aquatic sciences, and water resource management. These courses attract around 30 civil and 25 environmental sciences graduates annually. Challenges include limited staff, lab resources, and intensive course delivery. Curriculum reforms aim to support Guyana's Low Carbon Development Strategy through partnerships and short courses.
