This document summarizes current trends in the diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis. It discusses the heterogeneous nature of myocarditis and challenges in establishing diagnostic criteria. While viral infection, particularly from enteroviruses, has traditionally been considered a primary cause, newer molecular techniques have identified various viral and non-viral etiologies. The pathogenesis involves direct myocardial invasion, subsequent immune activation, and autoimmune responses. Diagnosis relies on clinical presentation, cardiac biomarkers, imaging, and endomyocardial biopsy, though sampling error limits biopsy sensitivity. Treatment aims to alleviate symptoms, support heart function, and modulate inflammation and immune responses, though randomized trials are still needed to establish best practices.
