Grade Level Standard:
This is a TLE Home Economics mini-course on Household Services, which leads to
Certificate of Competency (COC). It focuses on Process and Delivery and the four (4) core
competencies that a Grade 9 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student ought to
possess namely: (1) Clean living room, dining room, bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen (2)
Make up beds and cots (3) Fabric care and maintenance, and (4) Ironing clothes and
linens
CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of the procedures and techniques in
cleaning, caring, and maintaining floors, surfaces, furnishings and fixtures
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner independently cleans floors, surfaces, furnishings, and fixtures
according to standard operating procedures.

I. INTRODUCTION
The teacher will help the student to understand the big idea/picture of the lesson, you
may engage the following suggested activities :
A. Ask the students to observe different houses in the community. Let them
compare the floor used, furniture and fixtures available and their technique
of caring and maintaining it.
B. Brainstorming, Paper and pen, group discussion and role playing are
some of the activities prepared to achieved its learning goals and means
to assess learning in each lessons.
C. Teacher will facilitate learning then let the students read, analyze and do
assessment individually or by group.
II. OBJECTIVES
 Explain the types of floor and surface texture
 Perform cleaning, sweeping and polishing techniques of different household
areas as per standard operating procedures.
 Demonstrate proper maintenance of floor in accordance with relevant safety
procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.
 Give the different types of stain
 List down proper care and maintenance of furniture
 Identify the different types of stain
 Perform safety procedures and techniques in removing stains on furniture as per
standard operating procedures.

1. Guide the students to answer honestly and individually the
Pre – Test found in the module, Pages23-25. Give them time
limit and ask them to write their answers on their answer
sheet or in notebook as stated in the test direction.

I. INTRODUCTION
The teacher will help the student to understand the big idea/picture of the lesson, you
may engage the following suggested activities :
A. Ask the students to identify different types of linens that they observed in their
house. Let them give characteristics of each type of linens. Parts of the house
with corresponding cleaning care and maintenance will also presented.
B. Brainstorming, Paper and pen, group discussion and role playing are some of
the activities prepared to achieve its learning goals and means to assess
learning in each lessons.
C. Teacher will facilitate learning then let the students read, analyze and do
assessment individually or by group.

a. Ask the student to observe about the current trends of laundry in home
and in industry. Let them cut pictures from magazines and newspaper or
draw a picture about their observation. Group the student and let them
present in the class. They may present it in the form of a short skit or role
playing so that students may feel the era. Let them compare and contrast.
Each group will be given two (2) minutes to present.

c. Elaborate to your student your expectation by summarizing what they
have read.

V. SUMMARY
Floors are important aspect of house interiors as they are both functional and
decorative. It comes in a wide variety of colors, shapes, sizes and styles which
adds to its versatility. Choices of it depend upon one’s personality and budget
allocations.
Use of proper tools and materials is very important to perform our tasks
effectively hence, daily care and maintenance of each tools and materials should
not be ignored.
Furnitures and fixtures are important part of our home decoration. The
used of it makes our home lively and appealing. The knowledge of care and
maintenance of the furnishings will help dealing its value, form and texture.
Linen is used to describe any woven or knitted bath, bed or kitchen textile
such as sheets, towels and table clothes. It is a fabric that is made from flax
fibers and not from cotton.
Bed make up is the process of cleaning up and organizing one’s bed.
Fitted and flat sheets, comforter, blanket, pillow, pillow case and slip are the
supplies needed to make our beds presentable.
Different parts of the house must be regularly clean and disinfect to avoid
any kind of diseases. Cleaning and maintenance of it will be easier and more
efficient if you follow step-by-step procedures.
The idea is to know the cleaning care and maintenance of it. Then you
can use effectively and safely longer and thereby save money.
Bathroom supplies and paraphernalia are essential items we need in
observing cleanliness. They can be classified as sanitizing, cleaning and for
personal hygiene purposes.
Maintenance of our clothes, linen and fabric inside the house is necessary
because this is part of our daily routine; we always change our clothes when we
got home and regular washing of linens in our home.
Clothing, linen, and other fabric inside the house should be cleaned,
washed and ironed (daily or weekly) regularly to be more presentable, good
looking and have a pleasant aura inside the house.
Housekeeping is not just cleaning. It includes laundering of clothes,
mending defects and damages and ironing. Learning proper care, mending,
laundering and ironing will save our time, money and energy. A service plan in
necessary this will give direction to the student for them to easily achieve their
goal.
VI. GLOSSARY
Bed cover -linen use to protect the bed sheet.
Bed pad -linen that protects the bed mattress against the
bloodstain, urine and other forms of dirt
Bed sheet -rectangular piece of cloth or linen used to cover a
mattress.
Blanket -a large piece of woolen or similar material used as a
bed covering or other covering for warmth.
Carpet extractor - cleaning equipment used for dry foam shampooing of
carpets to removes dirt that sticks to penetrate into the
carpet layers
Comforter -a thick bed covering that is filled with soft light material.
Damp mopping -cleaning the floor with lightly wet mop.
Denatured alcohol -is a cleaning aid removing ink stains from
upholstery or clothes.
Extraction -extracting deeply embedded dirt and soil in carpets that
cannot be removed by shampooing
Fibers -is a thread or filament formed from a vegetable tissue,
mineral substance or textile. Fabric is a cloth, typically
produced by weaving or knitting textile fibers.
Floor polisher -equipment used in scrubbing, stripping, and polishing
hard floor surfaces and also vinyl, wood parquet, etc.
Floor scraper -used for scrapping hardened dirt
Furniture -large movable equipment such as tables and chairs
that makes home or offices suitable for living or
working.
Glycerine -has three hydroxyl groups that are responsible for the
solubility in water and its hygroscopic nature.
Hand brush -used to remove embedded dirt on top of hard floor and
stubborn dirt on top of the carpet.
Hard floor -durable, versatile and not easily pierced floor type that
usually used in living and dining room.
Lubricant -is a substance introduce to reduce friction between
moving surfaces. It may also have the functions of
transporting foreign particles.
Mattress -is a large pad that supports the body. It is consist of a
quilted of similarly fastened case, usually of heavy
cloth that contains hair, straw, cotton, foam and rubber.
Recycling -process of recovering and converting materials that
can be used as raw materials to produce another new
products
Reduce -refers to practices that bring down the amount of trash
we dispose by avoiding the amount of unnecessary
packaging of the products and its waste toxicity
Sanitation -hygienic means of promoting health through
prevention of human contact with the hazards of waste
Sealing -floor smoothing process to rough surfaces and other
damages to enhance its over all appearance
Sodium Perborate -it serves as a source of active oxygen in many
detergents, laundry detergent, cleaning products and
laundry bleaches.
Soft floor -a resilient floor, which is commonly used in household
Spray buffing -polishing the floor to maintain and keeps its gloss
Stain -colored patches or dirty marks that are not easily
removed
Stripping -cleaning process where embedded dirt; oil and old
layers of floor are eliminated using a solution.
Sweeping -removing dirt and trash from floors using sweepers
and dustpan.
Tetrachloride -is the organic compound with the formula ccl4. Use as
a precursor to refrigerants, and as a cleaning agent. It
is a colorless liquid with a “smell” that can be detected
at low levels
Vacuum cleaner -equipment used to eliminate dust particles from
carpet surfaces, upholstered furniture and even hard
surfaces.
Vacuuming -the process of elimination of dirt on a carpeted floors
using a vacuum cleaner.

Kto12 BASIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION HOME ECONOMICS – HOUSEHOLD SERVICES First Quarter richardrrr.blogspot.com Grade Level Standard: This is a TLE Home Economics mini-course on Household Services, which leads to Certificate of Competency (COC). It focuses on Process and Delivery and the four (4) core competencies that a Grade 9 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student ought to possess namely: (1) Clean living room, dining room, bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen (2) Make up beds and cots (3) Fabric care and maintenance, and (4) Ironing clothes and linens CONTENT STANDARD The learner demonstrates understanding of the procedures and techniques in cleaning, caring, and maintaining floors, surfaces, furnishings and fixtures PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learner independently cleans floors, surfaces, furnishings, and fixtures according to standard operating procedures. LEARNING COMPETENCIES  Clean surfaces and floors  Clean furnishings and fixtures I. INTRODUCTION The teacher will help the student to understand the big idea/picture of the lesson, you may engage the following suggested activities : A. Ask the students to observe different houses in the community. Let them compare the floor used, furniture and fixtures available and their technique of caring and maintaining it. B. Brainstorming, Paper and pen, group discussion and role playing are some of the activities prepared to achieved its learning goals and means to assess learning in each lessons. C. Teacher will facilitate learning then let the students read, analyze and do assessment individually or by group.

OBJECTIVES  Explain the types of floor and surface texture  Perform cleaning, sweeping and polishing techniques of different household areas as per standard operating procedures.  Demonstrate proper maintenance of floor in accordance with relevant safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.  Give the different types of stain  List down proper care and maintenance of furniture  Identify the different types of stain  Perform safety procedures and techniques in removing stains on furniture as per standard operating procedures. III. PRE-ASSESSMENT Process and Delivery 1. Guide the students to answer honestly and individually the Pre – Test found in the module, Pages23-25. Give them time limit and ask them to write their answers on their answer sheet or in notebook as stated in the test direction. 2. Let the learners score their answers for the purpose of recall. Together with the students, analyse the results of the Pre - Test to determine where they are in terms of background both in knowledge and skills; their strengths and weaknesses as your bases for planning instructional activities. Guide students on assessing the floor and surface cleaning procedures and techniques 3. Facilitate students on learning care and maintenance of floor and surface. C. Marble – comes in a variety of sizes and colors with calcium carbonate and other minerals. Concrete – hard type of floor, which is a mixture of sand and cement with gravel, broken stone and other elements. Vinyl – more durable and highly resistant type of floor.   • 18. V. SUMMARY Floors are important aspect of house interiors as they are both functional and decorative. It comes in a wide variety of colors, shapes, sizes and styles which adds to its versatility. Choices of it depend upon one’s personality and budget allocations. Use of proper tools and materials is very important to perform our tasks effectively hence, daily care and maintenance of each tools and materials should not be ignored. Furnitures and fixtures are important part of our home decoration. The used of it makes our home lively and appealing. The knowledge of care and maintenance of the furnishings will help dealing its value, form and texture. Linen is used to describe any woven or knitted bath, bed or kitchen textile such as sheets, towels and table clothes. It is a fabric that is made from flax fibers and not from cotton. Bed make up is the process of cleaning up and organizing one’s bed. Fitted and flat sheets, comforter, blanket, pillow, pillow case and slip are the supplies needed to make our beds presentable. Different parts of the house must be regularly clean and disinfect to avoid any kind of diseases. Cleaning and maintenance of it will be easier and more efficient if you follow step-by-step procedures. The idea is to know the cleaning care and maintenance of it. Then you can use effectively and safely longer and thereby save money. Bathroom supplies and paraphernalia are essential items we need in observing cleanliness. They can be classified as sanitizing, cleaning and for personal hygiene purposes. Maintenance of our clothes, linen and fabric inside the house is necessary because this is part of our daily routine; we always change our clothes when we got home and regular washing of linens in our home. Clothing, linen, and other fabric inside the house should be cleaned, washed and ironed (daily or weekly) regularly to be more presentable, good looking and have a pleasant aura inside the house. Housekeeping is not just cleaning. It includes laundering of clothes, mending defects and damages and ironing. Learning proper care, mending, laundering and ironing will save our time, money and energy. A service plan in necessary this will give direction to the student for them to easily achieve their goal.
