The Hummingbird Factor
How Purpose, Passion & Productivity Transform Organisations
!
Introduction Day II = Productivity
Today’s managers can learn a thing or two from a featherweight creature that transforms its
physical limitations into utter admiration. The hummingbird. It lives perpetually on the edge,
yet it never fails to defy gravity and depravity. It takes sheer grit to create value that outlasts its
duration.
Successful organisations can train their workforce to be as agile as the hummingbird, to be
quicker, and laser-focused on their mission-critical goals. Failure to do this will imply that the
organisation may get distracted, stifled and stymied from reaching their full potential.
Successful organisations operate with a mindset that is very similar to that of the hummingbird.
Talent by itself, is not enough. Managers with a growth mindset can boost productivity by
thanks to their believe that talent is expandable.
!
# 1 Growth Mindset Inspires Resourcefulness
People with a growth mindset believe that their basic abilities can be developed and improved
upon through dedicated work and effort. In this mindset, brains and talent are just the starting
point and whenever they face setbacsk, they learn quickly to bounce back stronger.
3. On the other hand, people with a fixed mindset believe their basic qualities, like their
intelligence or talent, are fixed traits. They spend more time documenting their intelligence or
talent, instead of developing and refining them.

# 2 Turn Physical Limitations into Practical Motivation
The hummingbird does not surrender to physical limitations. It takes its limited size as
encouragement to work harder. It can fly for 500 miles. In other words, it does not allow itself to
get distracted at all.

4. # 3 Driven By Passion, Purpose & Productivity
Although the hummingbird lives just about 2-3 years, it does not let that get in the way of its
work ethic. It obviously does not bemoan its size and physical constraints. Instead, it works
quicker, faster and harder, than most other creatures.

# 4 Duration is Less Significant Than Donation
The hummingbird lives just about 2-3 years, but it makes a contribution that far outstrips its
duration. Everyday, it visits about 2k -3k flowers to pollinate. Can you imagine the impact of its
work on the beauty of the world? The hummingbird makes the world a better place.

# 5 Give More Than You Receive
It is abundantly clear that given its physical size, the hummingbird gives more than it is
expected to. Unlike other birds and animals, it goes the extra mile. It exceeds expectations.
With the spirit of giving more than we receive. This is a super principle for business!

Conclusion
In managing your organisation, remember that when your purpose is well aligned with your
passion, productivity will benefit. When the mindset is right and the systems are lean and
nimble enough, a lot more can be accomplished efficiently.
With a constant purview on fighting organisational fires, even resource-deficient companies can
turn things around from pitfalls into windfalls just like a hummingbird turns its physical
limitations into limitless capabilities, thanks to a relentless pursuit of creating value.
