Editor's Notes
Nut chcklist is from SRER and used to assess the quality of a menuGives guidelines in frequency and amount of food types which should appear on a daily and fortnightly basis on a 2 week EC service menuThe criteria apply to morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea only
Why is food variety important
Based on the serve recommendations of the AGHEChild serves = where serve sizes have been modified to be more suitable for childrenAmount of food needed each day varies with age, size and activity level of the child – these serve sizes are based on an average healthy active childReiterate that grains should be wholegrain or wholemeal wherever possible to increase fibre and low GI to keep kids feeling fuller for longerDairy should be full fat up to 2 years, then Hi-lo or skim is OKIf not sure about what a serve actually looks like, take the time to measure some up at the next meal time
