Week 1 Workshop
Activity - Group stand-up meeting
Each week groups will start the workshop with a stand-up
meeting (although the idea is for the
meeting to be daily within the Agile team, here the groups will
discuss the week. The time for this
meeting will be time boxed to 15 minutes.
The group stands in a circle (standing encourages the meeting to
be short) and each member gives a
quick update of their contribution to the project for the previous
day, what they plan to do today
23. and any issues that may impact them getting the work completed
today.
For the first stand-up meeting do it as a class. In future
workshops, the stand-up meetings can be
broken into groups.
Each member very briefly (1-2 minutes) provides the following
information relating to this unit:
1. Name (Not needed when project team is established)
2. What you accomplished for the unit in the last week?
3. What do you intend to accomplish for the unit this week?
4. Are there any impediments to accomplishing what you need
to this week?

Activity – Consequences
Imagine a unit where you get to determine your learning
outcomes and then assess your own
performance?
In this next exercise, you will examine your perspectives and
determine your personal objectives for
the unit.
As this is the last unit within your Masters, some may say, ‘I
just want to pass’. This is a legitimate
objective especially when considering the cost of the
alternative.
Consider the consequences if you failed this unit, use the box
below to capture your thoughts.
Consequences of failing this unit
Now consider the opposite side of the situation and what it
means if you pass the unit.
25. Consequences of passing this unit
How did you go? Which box did you find it easier to come up
with ideas? Highlight or circle the box
that best describes how you easy or difficult you found
describing the consequences.
A. I found the first box
‘Consequences of failing
the unit’ easiest to fill
out.
B. I found the second
box ‘Consequences of
passing the unit’ easiest
to fill out.
C. I found filling out
the boxes were
equally as easy to fill
out.
D. I found filling

The following activities align to the Baseline Assessment and
students are encouraged to
work on the template provided for that assessment as they work
through the activities
Activity – Values
This activity will ask you to identify your current core values.
Open the ‘Values Exercise’ file from Moodle or from the
following web address:
https://www.cmu.edu/career/documents/my-career-path-
activities/values-exercise.pdf
The activity is broken into three components, complete 2 and 3
in your RPA1_Baseline template.
1. Noting all values that resonate with you from the list
provided
2. Grouping the values from step one into a maximum of five
27. groupings
3. Deciding on one value from each group created in step 2 that
best represents what is
important for you.
Activity – The Talent Triangle
This activity will requires you to become familiar with the
Project Management Institutes (PMI)
Talent Triangle.
Access the PMI Talent Triangle from Moodle or the following
web page:
https://www.pmi.org/-
/media/pmi/documents/public/pdf/certifications/talent-triangle-
flyer.pdf
You will use the Talent Triangle to reflect on your current
perceptions of necessary skills and
knowledge.
Specifically you need to consider each item within the three
categories of the Talent Triangle with
reference to the following:
• How important you feel each item is for your future career
(you will be asked to identify
your desired future career – it is OK if it is not project related),
• How important you feel each item is for project managers
generally, and
• Perform an audit of your current skills by rating your current
capability in each area of the
talent triangle. Complete the audit in your RPA1_Baseline

of talent triangle capabilities.
You will need the latest version of your resume.
Review the position description and map the criteria against the
skills audit you performed.
Choose one soft skill and one hard skill from the position
description. These should be skills that you
want to improve during this unit. Use the table below to
document which skills you have chosen.
You can complete this in your Reflective 1: Baseline template.
In the ‘Position description and ‘Talent Triangle’ columns
provide the exact wording describing the
skill as a quote “ “. Ensure you reference this quote

Activity – iChange
In this activity, requires you to complete an online introductory
course on social innovation. It will
take up to two hours, longer if you decide to do some of the
challenges embedded. If you do not
finish this activity during the workshop, you can complete it in
your own time.
Students should complete the iCHANGE introductory course
through their own student login. This
will enable the completion of the course to be included on your
study record.
The course includes videos (if you want to watch these in the
workshop time ensure you bring
headphones). No headphones – no worries, each section
provides a script.

Group Activity: Form Project Teams
Form your project teams, these should be no more than four
people. You will work with these
people on the group assessments throughout the unit.
Note down the team’s details and discuss the availability of
meeting each other once you start
working on the project.
Name Student number Contact details (e.g.

Email the details of your team to your workshop tutor.
Group Activity: The social issue
Consider the social issue for the current term. You can find
information on the social issue on
Moodle. In your project teams discuss the following questions,
taking notes of the discussion for
36. later reference.
Narrow your focus to a specific part of the social issue and
explain this in terms of a problem or
opportunity statement.
Term 1, 2020 – the social issue is the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs)
https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/?menu=1300
Consider a single SDG that the majority of the team is
interested in. Each project team must choose
one of the goals to align their project on.
Only one team will be able to align their project to a single
SDG. Once that team has posted on the
forum that they will be working on that SDG it will no longer
be an option for other teams.
Other considerations:
This will be the area that your project must align to.
Each member of the team must work on a proposal for a project
in this area – each proposal must
be a substantially different project.
Proposals must not be research projects or based on
homelessness (previous terms social issue.
Once you have decided on the SDG that your team wants to
work, check the forum post to ensure it
is still available. If it is available, to secure that SDG, reply to
the forum post with the following
information:
37. • The SDG your team will work on,
• what campus and workshop you are in,
• the names and student numbers of the project team.
Once you have posted, you will not be able to change your
option.

Task: You are to complete a number of guided reflective
activities. Where possible, time will be provided, during Theme
1 workshops (weeks 1 and 2) to complete these activities.
Understand what is required
Gain an understanding of your own current state through
different reflective practices.
What do you value?
“It’s never too late to better understand your core values and
align your career to them. Your career satisfaction and
happiness may depend upon it.”
(Loffredo, 2017)
What do you want?
Many students get to the end of a degree just trying to get
through the assessments. Apart from graduating students rarely
ask themselves what they want to achieve during the units they
study.
This unit gives you this opportunity.
What do you not have on your resume that your dream job
requires?
Leveraging opportunities
How can you leverage this unit to bridge gaps in your resume or
to network with an organisation you would love to work for?
You can shape this experience.
57. Your engagement in these activities demonstrated by your
responses in the baseline template form the basis of this
assessment.
Assessment Criteria and marking breakdown
You must submit your baseline on the template provided. Use
the marking breakdown below, the template and other resources
provided on Moodle to ensure the Baseline includes all required
components. This assessment makes up 10% of the overall unit
grade.
Professional writing standards, e.g. grammar, spelling, etc. are
included within the mark allocation.

10. Responses collected within assessments submitted within
this unit may be used for the purposes of future research and
also to inform quality e.g. informing how we can improve the
way we teach project management and related topics. If they are
used in future research, names will not be used or included in
any publications. If you would like to opt out you can do so by
sending an email to Natalie Ewin, stating this. You are able to
opt out at any time (including after finalisation of grades) and
