Brahma prayed to Lord Vishnu for protection before taking on his responsibilities of creation. Spiritual leaders must pray to the Lord and follow spiritual principles to avoid being overcome by false pride or material bondage. Leaders need qualities like integrity, maturity and lack of envy. They are trained through seminars and workshops on spiritual leadership topics. The Srimad Bhagavatam provides examples of super leaders like Prahlad and teaches nobler qualities of forgiveness and compassion. Srila Prabhupada trained leaders to manage temples and centers according to spiritual universal principles.
2. Anyone taking Leadership…
SB- Brahma was given responsibility by Lord
Vishnu for doing secondary creation,
• Visarga-meditated first-achieved darshan of Lord Vishnu-
• Prayed to Lord
• Lord congratulated him by shaking hands-appreciation and
responsibility of being a prajapati and empowerment-
3. Anyone taking Leadership…
Brahma said “In the course of my creation I
may come across some vicious elements and get
carried away by bad association. Please protect
me. I may be overcome by false pride
considering myself the doer-please protect me
from false pride”.
4. Lord Vishnu said “ as long as you remember Me, you will
not be carried away by false pride or material bondage-
always protected. Just always remember Me”.
• So anyone taking leadership--first prays to the Lord
• Prayers and penances--necessary before action and expansion.
• Lord Siva went to the jungle for same reason. To be not overpowered by
rajo guna--otherwise will not be able to do good for others or ourselves.
• Ambarish Maharaj, Yudhisthira, Brahma…many more followed this
Anyone taking Leadership…

Self mgmt., people mgmt., project mgmt..
SP said “Organization and Intelligence are
necessary to expand our movement”
10. Need of Vaishnava Leaders…
Our substance is spiritual but to take it far and wide we
need organization and intelligence to successfully transmit it
to different people.
How a Vaishnava leader is different from a material leader is
taught.
11. Need of Vaishnava Leaders…
Duryodhana - materialistic leader, Arjuna - spiritual leader.
Pastime of Arjuna choosing Krsna without hesitation and
Duryodhana happily accepting the 10,000 Narayani sena
Duryodhana calculating from materialistic point of view, thus
considering Krsna without weapon useless.
12. Spiritual Leader-Arjuna
• “whatever He wishes will happen”,
• “there is nothing He cannot do”,
• “if I have Krsna I have everything, If I
don’t have Krsna I have nothing”,
• “Krsna is my first priority, Krsna is ‘be
all and end all’ for me”.
Arjuna knew
Krsna as
SPOG,
source of
everything,
13. Spiritual Leader-Arjuna
This is Spiritual Leader. Krsna’s
shelter and spiritual priority is
kept on top as priority, all other
things are secondary. First
thing is kept first.
First thing is spiritual
substance-Krsna is our father,
mother, friend.
14. Srila Prabhupada- Spiritual Managerial Leadership
SP-making GBC-spiritual managerial leadership.
Leader is spiritually minded-his heart constantly resonating
with scriptures-vibrating with spiritual emotions-at the same
time leader.
15. Srila Prabhupada- Spiritual Managerial Leadership
Inspired by the spiritual principles they have
to guide people in their area to make
organizational setup, planning, controlling,
coordinating, empowering, delegating, taking
meetings.
16. Srila Prabhupada- Spiritual Managerial Leadership
SP wanted them to conduct preaching related meetings-
Rathayatra-golden jubilee celebrations. Constructive
preaching related meetings.
SP was unhappy with meetings involving quarrels, fighting,
fault finding. One time he said “resolutions, revolutions,
dissolutions and no solutions. Just chant HK and be happy”.
17. Need of Spiritual Universal Principles
HH Radhanath Swami used to say whenever there used to be problems “problems are like
smoke. When we increase the fire of KC, the smoke will vanish,” “All the problems in this
world will come to an end when Maha Vishnu inhales.”
While living in this world we need managerial organizational leadership qualities to be able to
manage expertly.
So need to learn spiritual universal principles.
19. SUPER Leaders
Enlightenment is of
the head- need
wisdom principles to
apply.
Reformation means
change of heart.
Ex: Leader should be
able to forgive,
should be able to
change his opinion--
so these require
reformation of heart.
20. SUPER Leaders
SB teaches example of Super
Leaders like Pruthu Maharaja who
gave up 100th sacrifice, Parikshit
not retaliating when cursed.
21. SUPER Leaders
Different levels of compassion
• Mrigari is one level who said he will not kill any animals
• Better than that is Parikshit’s compassion who didn’t strike back even when
Sringi cursed although he had opportunity-no tit for tat
• Better than that is Prahalad who did not strike back and also prayed for his
father- “Let him go BTG”
• Better than that is Ambarish Maharaja who not only prayed to Sudarshan to
forgive Durvasa but offered several prayers when he was not ready adharma-
çéläsura-dhüma-ketave (SB 9.5.6) “ Oh sudarshan you are supposed to kill
asuras, not brahmanas”, “take all my punya credits as compensation”.
22. SUPER Leaders….
• Durvasa said
aho ananta-dāsānāṁ
mahattvaṁ dṛṣṭam adya me
kṛtāgaso ’pi yad rājan
maṅgalāni samīhase
“My dear King, today I have experienced the greatness of devotees of the Supreme
Personality of Godhead, for although I have committed an offense, you have prayed
for my good fortune.”. (SB 9.5.14)
23. Srimad Bhagavatam and Leaders
Leaders should learn nobler, more nobler, most nobler qualities
of heart from SB.
Lord Vishnu was pleased with Prithu’s sublime transcendental
qualities.
All demigods –are in sattva guna-want to serve Lord Vishnu and
also want to show off themselves-have material enjoyment.
24. Srimad Bhagavatam and Leaders
To the degree we are mixed with material motivations, to that degree
we have impurities in our leadership
Fruitive, bossing, controlling, exploiting, weakness for money, women,
attached to post and doing mal practices to hold on--all irregularities.
One has to align with SB principles, which are purest of the principles–
leadership guided by vipra, dharma, acyuta ashraya.
25. Srimad Bhagavatam and Leaders
Leaders should be closely guided by SB
principles on leadership. They will be able to
look at the world the way Krsna looks at the
world. Shastra cakshu. They will be able to
treat all the living entities as children of God.
26. Srila Prabhupada and Leadership
So devotees thus trained go on to become ideal leaders, who can
become managers of centers, TPs, GBCs--great valuable assets in
SP’s movement-
SP in one letter “one good soul is good enough in one place”. One
in Boston, LA… One person who speaks as SP has spoken, does as
SP did, then that one person will expand preaching in that center.
27. Srila Prabhupada and Leadership
SP is not only a spiritualist but a visionary leader
who has given innumerable leadership principles in
his purports. GBC college teaches all these for who
would be zonal supervisors, GBCs--bright future for
the ISKCON society- to our leaders leading in
different parts of the world.
