1. OBJECTIVES:
34.9 Identify the similarities and
differences between male and
female Reproductive System
34.10. Compare the male and
female Reproductive System
according to its characteristics,
function and hormones involved.
34.11. Explain the role of
hormones involved in the male and
female Reproductive System.
2. QUESTIONS
• A female reproductive part that produces the egg.
• It serves as site of egg implantation and where the fertilized egg
develops.
• Hormone that nourishes the sperm cells and help them mature.
• It produces hormones that control the growth and release of
eggs from the ovaries.
• The gland that controls the function of the testes.
3. •How does a male and female Reproductive
Systems similar? In what ways are they
different?
7. Guide questions:
• 1. What are the similarities between the male and female
reproductive system?
• 2. What are the differences between the male and female
reproductive system?
• 3. What is the main function of the male and female
reproduction system?
• 4. Which gland is/are similar in males and females?
• 5. Which reproductive system is more complex? Why do
you say so?
9. 1.What are the similarities between the male and
female Reproductive System?
Its basic characteristic is to reproduce.
They are both developed from similar embryonic
tissue(homologous)
Both are regulated by hormones
Both have gonads (male-testes; female-ovaries) that
produce gametes (testes-sperm; ovaries-egg or ovum) and
sex organs
Both system becomes mature during puberty
10. 2. What are the differences between the male and
female Reproductive System?
The male reproductive organs are external while the female
reproductive organs are internal.
The testes produce spermatozoa almost without limit,
whereas the number of ova is fixed before birth i.e. a female is
born with a pre-determined oozytes cannot produce new ones
whereas male continuously produces sperm.
The female reproductive hormones are the estrogen and
progesterone while the male reproductive hormone is the
testosterone.
11. The main function of the male and
female reproductive system is to
reproduce.
13. • The female Reproductive System is more
complex because male has to produce and
deliver gametes only while female must not
only produce gametes but also provide
nourishment, provide extra care and give birth.
14. I. IDENTIFICATION: Before the number draw a if both
female and male share similar characteristics and a if not.
1. Possessing the basic characteristic to reproduce.
2. Being developed from similar embryonic tissue(homologous)
3. reproductive structure
II Short Essay: (2 points)
1. Differentiate male and female Reproductive System according to
their characteristics, functions and hormones.
15. •Why is it important for students like you to
understand the topic of hormones in the
human reproductive system?
16. - When these reproductive hormones do not
work as they should, fertility problems can
occur. Our understanding of these hormones
and their functions means we can assist
fertility, for example through in vitro
fertilization (IVF).
