How I spent the Christmas Holidays...
1. How I spent the Christmas
holidays…
Dear Emily,
It was great to hear from you. It sounds like you had
a fantastic Christmas with your family.
Unfortunately, it was my worst Christmas holiday to
date. I don’t know where to start! From the word go,
it was a disaster. As you know, I was due to fly
home from Spain on the twentieth of December.
However, my flight was cancelled due to high winds,
so I didn’t make it home until 11pm on Christmas
Eve. Just in time to open one present at midnight,
as I do every year. My Dad came down with a bug
and woke up feeling lousy on Christmas morning.
My brother and his family came to ours for dinner
but things went from bad to worse when Mum
ended up burning the turkey. We managed to
salvage some of it and had a nice meal. I enjoyed
hearing all their news. Boxing Day was very
relaxing, we watched TV all day and pigged out on
the chocolates we got for Christmas.
2. On the thirtieth of December my brother and sister-in-law invited us all to
their house for a party, which thankfully went without a hitch! I spent the day
playing with my nieces and nephew and it was great to have the whole
family together for a change! On New Year’s Eve I went to my friend’s
house for a few drinks and we watched the New Year’s Eve celebrations on
TV before bringing in the bells with her family. Just when I thought things
couldn’t get any worse, I arrived home on New Year’s Day to find my Mum
in the bathroom, knee-deep in water! It turned out that our upstairs
neighbours had had a burst pipe which had flooded our bathroom.
3. Fortunately, the second week of my holiday went more smoothly. I
spent the next few days hitting the sales, visiting family and meeting up
with my friends for dinner and drinks. Despite the cancelled flight,
illness, burnt turkey and flooded bathroom, it was lovely to be home and
2015 is already looking up!
Speak to you soon,
Nadine
