3. Morning Walk/Recess
There is no supervision before 8:05. Breakfast is served at
7:45.
No dogs are allowed on school property
Please send your child dressed appropriately for the
weather.
We go outside rain or shine if the weather is above 0
degrees.
If your child is too sick to participate in recess then they
are too sick to be at school. Recess is part of our
curriculum and a great opportunity for building
relationships between students.
4. Dismissal
2:20 dismissal-Please make sure not to park in the bus
parking or crosswalk. Please use the designated
crosswalk when parking across the street. You are setting
an example for your child.
Make sure to send a note or call if someone is picking up
that is not on the authorized pick-up list.
Walkers and Bikers—must fill out authorization paper
Helmets are mandatory

6. Reading Groups
Start at 8:30—be on time!!!
On their level
Rotate every 20 minutes (seatwork,
reading center, writing center, word
work, computers, phonics)
7. The Importance of Reading
The probability that a child who is a poor reader at the
end of first grade will remain a poor reader at the end of
fourth grade is 88%.
Read with your child every chance you get.
8. Handwriting, Spelling & Writing
Please practice handwriting at home.
All letters start at the top except d! Example is in
packet but b is wrong.
We will have weekly spelling tests on Fridays.
Spelling words can be found on the blog.
Writing in first grade will include inventive spelling
using phonics skills. PLEASE do not correct your
child’s spelling this will discourage them from
writing.

10. Schedules
Children thrive on routine
Create a nightly routine
7:15 have a snack
7:30 take a bath
7:45 put on pajamas and brush teeth
7:50 read story
8:00 say good night
6-7 year old kiddos need 10-11 hours of sleep per night
Behavior, concentration, ability to listen and attitude are all
affected by sleep
11. Homework
First graders will not have more than 10 minutes of
homework per day.
Homework is a chance for the students to share and
practice their learning at home.

13. Volunteers
