Magnesium was discovered by Joseph Black in 1755 and isolated by A. A. B. Bussy and Sir Humphrey Davy in 1808. It is found in many places including airplanes, missiles, photography and plants, and is used in flash bulbs and medicine due to its properties as an alkaline earth metal in the second column of the periodic table.
