Media distribution pdf
1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA DISTRIBUTE
YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
FLO BALDERSON
2. METRO GOLDYWN-MAYER
▸ My film would be most likely
produced by Metro Goldwyn-
Mayer, founded by Marcus Loew
and their headquarters are located
in Beverly Hills, California, United
states. Metro Goldwyn-Mayer is
well known for producing films
such as the James Bond series ‘die
another day’, ‘the hobbit’.
3. INDEPENDENT FILM
▸ However I think realistically, my film would be classed as
independent as there is no budget for the film therefore
most likely, it would be produced and shown at a film
festival or a small independent cinema. Other ways of the
public accessing films include DVD, ‘blue ray', digital
downloads off iTunes and film websites like ‘netflix' or love
film. These easy accessible websites mean people pay for
the service not the films therefore each film earns the same
budget.
4. VILLAGE ROADSHOW PICTURES
▸ Other examples of film studios include
universal studios(fast and furious), village
roadshow pictures(The Matrix) and colour
force(the hunger games). Village Roadshow
Pictures have released over 85 times since
its establishment in 1986. They produced
films such as ‘The Matrix’, ‘Sherlock
Holmes’, ‘American Sniper’ and ‘The Great
Gatsby’. Village Roadshow Pictures self
distributes its filmed entertainment in
countries like Australia, New Zealand and
Singapore, they have worldwide popularity,
it has received 24 number one U.S box
office openings and received 37 academy
awards rewards.
5. DISTRIBUTER
▸ My distributer would most likely to
be summit entertainment LLC
(formerly Summit Entertainment
LP) is an American film production
company and distributor. It is a
subsidiary of Lions Gate
Entertainment, headquartered in
Universal City, California with
international offices in London
6. FILM IDENT
▸ I chose to do my film ident on after effects which I found really easy
and accessible to use. I managed to create a 3d effect of triangles
coming together in particular motion across the screen leaving the
words ‘Balderson studios’ on the screen. I think this worked
particularly well for both my genre and my film opening in general,
the harsh sides of the shape and the colour red portrayed a harsh
violent theme whilst flowing and looking professional. Secondly,
the name ‘Balderson studio’s’ works to express my production
company as it includes my surname whilst leaving studios in the
title so others can understand that we are a production company.
7. TITLES
▸ The titles I used were inspired from a title exercise I did earlier on in
the year. I watched the title sequence from the film ‘James Bond’ and
screen grabbed each title and put in a timeline so that I could pinpoint
the time each title appeared but also the names of different jobs
which occur in the making of the film. I used the film ‘James Bond’ to
do this because ‘James Bond’ is also has a spy orientated storyline and
the font choice is very similar to the typewriting font I chose in my final
draft. A second task I did early on in my media course was adding my
own titles to another opening sequence. This helped me to use after
effects to a higher standard and understand the programme better.
