Kribensis fish are native to parts of Africa and commonly found in the aquarium trade. They belong to the cichlid family and are known scientifically as Pelvicachromosis pulcher. Males and females can be distinguished by coloration, with males displaying brighter colors during mating. Kribensis prefer warm, soft acidic waters and need a vegetated tank with substrate they can dig caves in. They are omnivorous and eat algae, plants, and commercially prepared foods. Proper care includes keeping kribensis in pairs and providing a large tank of at least 100 gallons to allow for their territorial nature and digging behaviors.
