Evaluation part 5
1. What have you learnt about
technology from constructing this
product ?
2. What technology was used in film
production in pre digital times ?
• Film was used which was more of a celluloid
process
• The camera used to film was very big and was
also quite heavy so it meant you couldn’t
move around very quickly with the camera
• The quality of footage was known to be very
rich in color but also showing footage in depth
rather then it looking flat
3. What technology is used to make films
now ?
• In the 21st century a lot of people use the
digital camera which has only recently been
developed and is growing really fast and tries
copy film
• The digital camera is very light in weight and
can fit in the hand which would make it very
easy to move around with when filming those
cramp environment shots
4. The Pro’s of celluloid
• The resolution quality is much higher then
that of digital
• The colors are richer
• Shots of landscape/environment look better
• The shots look like they have more depth and
can be focused on one thing
5. The Con’s of celluloid ?
• Celluloid is a very expensive process as the
actually film costs over $30 for 1 minute worth
of footage but also requires many workers to
develop and take control of the camera
• The process is also very time consuming
• You need to be skilled to use this equipment
as when filming you need many people to
come and aid the cinematographer due to the
size and cost of the camera
6. The Pro’s of digital
• One of the pros with digital are that the
camera is light weight and can be taken
anywhere which means it can be used to film
nearly everything
• The cost of the digital camera is very low
compared to the film camera
• On the digital camera shots which the user
has previously taken can be seen within an
instant
7. The Con’s of digital
• Even though the quality of the digital camera
is improving it still has that flat look to it
whereas film has more of a 3-D look
• The colors on this camera are quite cold and
arent very rich
8. How does digital film making benefit
low/no budget film makers ?
• The benefits are that it is very easy to get a
hold of a camera as they are quite cheap
• Another thing which will attract people is that
unlike film it is very easy to edit and simple
• Digital is not a time consuming process this
will also benefit them as most of the time
people with low/no budget are on a deadline
