- 4. Routine Vaccines • Several infectious diseases occur in Indonesia are vaccine-preventable • They are including hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Rabies, Typhoid Fever, Measles (new cases) • Malaria can be prevented with chemoprophylaxis
- 5. Hepatitis A • Transmission following fecal-oral with person- to-person contact • Travelers with standard itineraries and accommodations is advised to be vaccinate
- 6. Hepatitis B • Travelers exposed with blood/other body fluids/sexual contacts/IVDU/tattoing/piercing/bekam- treatment should be vaccinated
- 7. Japanese Encephalitis • Long term traveler in endemic area during transmission season • Bite of infected mosquito
- 9. Rabies • Travelling outdoor, direct contact with dogs, bats
- 11. Typhoid Fever • Exposure to street foods
- 12. Measles • Several new cases are reported to import measles among travelers from Indonesia • Infants 6-10 months 1 dose pre departure • Preschool/school-age/adult 2 doses MMR separated 28 days
- 13. Malaria • Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Java, Sumatera, and Borneo all are endemics • Most pathogens: Plasmodium falciparum and vivax • Chloroquin-resistant exist • Suggested chemoprophylaxis: Atovaquone- proguanil, doxycycline, mefloquin
- 16. Eat and Drink Safely • Avoid cooked food served in room temperature • Avoid raw food, even vegetables • Drink only bottled/canned beverages • Boiled/chlorinated water is safe • Avoid ice, as sometimes made of unboiled water
- 17. Prevent Bug Bites • Cover exposed skin • Use repellent • Use permethrin-treated clothing • Use bed net • Insecticides
- 18. Stay Safe Outdoors • Lightweight clothing in hot climates • Warm layers in cold climate • Stay hydrated • Avoid sun exposure • Safe-swimming practice
- 19. Keep Away From Animals • No touching/petting/handling/feeding unknown vaccine status/health animal • Wash dog-bitten wound with soap and clean water immadiately
- 20. Reduce Exposure to Germs • Ill people should not travel • Practice hand hygiene and sleeve sneezing/coughing

Avoid Sharing Body Fluids • Use latex condom whenever engage sex • Do not use the same syringe for drug use • Limit alcohol consumption • Do not make tattoos, piercing, or other needle-procedure (acupuncture, bekam) unless using sterilized equipment • Ensure dental/medical equipment use for your treatment is sterilized/disinfected
