Control Valve (Work Tool) - Disassemble - High Flow

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve (Work
Tool) - Remove".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior
of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove hose (1) .
2. Remove nuts (2) and cartridge assembly (3) .
3. Remove O-ring seals (4) from cartridge assemblies (3) .

4. Remove bolt (7), retainer (6), and solenoid (5) .
5. Remove O-ring seals (8) from solenoid (5) .

6. Remove nuts (9) and coil assemblies (10) .
7. Remove cartridge assemblies (11) .
8. Remove O-ring seals (12) from cartridge assemblies (11) .

9. Remove bolt (13), retainer (14), and solenoid (15) .
10. Remove O-ring seals (16) from solenoid (15) .
11. Remove nut (18) and coil assembly (17) .

12. Remove O-ring seals (19) from coil assembly (17) .
13. Remove cartridge assembly (20) .

14. Remove O-ring seals (21), backup ring (22), and screen (23) from cartridge assembly (20) .
15. Reposition the control valve, as shown.
16. Remove relief valves (24) and (25) .
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.

18. Remove plug (26) and the O-ring seal. Remove spool assembly (27). Remove plug (28) and
the O-ring seal.

19. Remove plug (29) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (30), retainer (31), and spool (32).
Remove plug (35) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (34) and retainer (33) .
20. Remove plug (36) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (37) and retainer (38). Remove plug
(40) and the O-ring seal. Remove spool assembly (39) .

21. Remove plug (41) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (42), retainer (43), and spool (44).
Remove plug (47) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (46) and retainer (45) .

22. Remove plug (48) and the O-ring seal. Remove spring (49), valve (50), spring (51), and
valve (52). Repeat for the remaining valve assemblies.

Assembly Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts in cleaning
fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Do not use wiping cloths or rags to dry parts. Lint may be
deposited on the parts which may cause trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or
damaged, use new parts for replacement. Dirt and other contaminants can damage the precision
component. Perform assembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and
protected at all times.
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the
components, if necessary.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
1. Install valve (52), spring (51), valve (50), and spring (49). Install the O-ring seal and plug
(48). Repeat for the remaining valve assemblies.

2. Install spool (44), retainer (43), and spring (42). Install the O-ring seal and plug (41). Install
retainer (45) and spring (46). Install the O-ring seal and plug (47) .

3. Install spool assembly (39). Install the O-ring seal and plug (40). Tighten plug (40) to a
torque of 122 ± 12 N·m (90 ± 9 lb ft).
4. Install retainer (38) and spring (37). Install the O-ring seal and plug (36). Tighten plug (36)
to a torque of 122 ± 12 N·m (90 ± 9 lb ft).

5. Install spool (32), retainer (31), and spring (30). Install the O-ring seal and plug (29). Install
retainer (33) and spring (34). Install the O-ring seal and plug (35) .

6. Install spool assembly (27). Install the O-ring seal and plug (26). Tighten plug (26) to a
torque of 142 ± 14 N·m (105 ± 10 lb ft). Install the O-ring seal and plug (28) .
8. Install relief valves (24) and (25). Tighten all of the relief valves to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m
(33 ± 4 lb ft).
9. Install O-ring seals (21), backup ring (22), and screen (23) onto cartridge assembly (20) .

10. Install cartridge assembly (20). Tighten cartridge assembly (20) to a torque of 30 ± 3 N·m
(22 ± 2 lb ft).
11. Install O-ring seals (19) onto coil assembly (17) .

12. Install coil assembly (17) and nut (18). Tighten nut (18) to a torque of 3.4 ± 0.4 N·m (30.1 ±
3.5 lb in).
13. Install O-ring seals (16) onto solenoid (15) .
14. Install solenoid (15), retainer (14), and bolt (13). Tighten bolt (13) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m
(21 ± 5 lb ft).

15. Install O-ring seals (12) onto cartridge assemblies (11) .
16. Install cartridge assemblies (11). Tighten cartridge assemblies (11) to a torque of 40 ± 5
N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).
