Employee Discipline Essay
Employee discipline is a concept that could automatically set a negative tone in the workplace.
Ideally in a perfect world the workplace would be conflict free and every employee would be the
perfect employee. However, unfortunately there probably is not a thing as perfect world. Employee
discipline method that can be used by organizational leaders on trying to utilize various methods to
help promote and encourage orderly conduct in the workplace. According to Zachary (2013), an
organization should have the proper systems in place that helps to encourage proper behavior in the
workplace. The right methods to be used to change that behavior if it negatively impacts the
organization. In situations where discipline is required the HR perspective would be the type of
"punishment" that might have to be administered by HR managers this could often times be
unpleasant for both the administrator and the employee. Whether it is dismissing the employee.
Perhaps suspending the employee. Even just a written warning. Regardless of the intensity of the
punishment it requires that leadership utilize the right methods to help ensure that minimum fallout
transpires from the discipline that is used. When an employee experiences separation from an
organization it does not necessary mean that it is all due to poor behavior on the part of the
employee. According to Kemery, Dunlap, and Bedelan, (1989) separation could involve various
forms such as lay–off, discharge, resignation, suspension.

Classroom Management Related to Discipline
Teacher–Student Relationship Student–teacher relationship is a vital role in managing a classroom
and discipline. As a teacher, being able to connect with students is a key to academic instructional
success; students are more likely to show respect to a teacher if that teacher has a connection with
the students. Every teacher is bound to encounter a time when discipline must be used in some way.
How is this discipline going to affect the student–teacher relationship? Jong, Mainhard, Tartwijk,
Veldman, Verloop, & Wubbels (2013) explored how student

This consists of posting, no more than four rules in the classroom and having a list of 6
consequences that build upon one another, beginning with a warning, followed by writing the
student's name on the board, and ending with having a parent come to the school for a parent–teacher
conference (Logan, 2003). That discipline technique was aimed at middle and high school students;
the author also suggests a similar technique for elementary age students. "Watch the Signs!" is a
discipline program that utilized color–coded paper for each student to signal the students behavior:
green= satisfactory, blue= needs to improve, yellow=needs to improve, red= unsatisfactory (Logan,
2003, p. 16–17). Each color, with the exception of green, also has a repercussion ranging from a 10
minute time–out to a phone call to a parent to an out of classroom timeout (Logan, 2003). A large
part of having an effective classroom and discipline program is communicating the classroom
expectation early and clearly. Along with the expectations, communicating the consequences for
misbehavior to all students. By having clear consequences for students, there is no question that by
doing behavior X, the student will be held accountable and be disciplined by consequence Y. I
agree with the framework that Logan did with the discipline programs in this article. I would change

Punishment, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character and
control gained by enforcing obedience or order can all be used to define the word "discipline". If I
could define it in my own words, I would say that "discipline" is something you need to learn or be
taught when you need to correct disobedience. Perhaps even your own disobedience, which would
then change the word to self–discipline. Discipline is a concept that is absolutely essential to your
character. In my essay, I will talk about how it helps ourselves and others, how it correlates with the
religion Islam, and some things that you can do to learn and practice discipline. Discipline helps us

If there was no discipline, people would do whatever they wanted and make terrible mistakes
without putting the consideration of others first and foremost. Lack of discipline means lack of
self–restraint and control. The result of that is not only harmful but catastrophic. It will make it
difficult for you to differentiate right from wrong and see the long–term effects of your actions. If
you put your mind to it, you can learn to develop discipline and prevent these harmful thing from
happening. Now what does the religion Islam say about discipline? Well, according to
Al–Islam.com, discipline and control in Islam is not equal to dictatorship. For example, good
parents take into consideration the age and understanding of the child, his or her circumstances,
and other relative factors. Rules are then made accordingly. Important points are also stated such
as: when disciplining a child, the parent should refrain from becoming a dictator. A rule is not to
be followed because "I say so" but because it is the right thing to do. Also another important point
that stood out to me was to be in control of yourself when you are disciplining or being disciplined
and when a mistake has been made, to let the person make amends. This is a part of Islam.
Forgiveness. Islam is not about having anger in our hearts, it is about peace. If you are practicing the
religion Islam, you have to also strive to be a good Muslim. Am I a good Muslim? No. Do I

Essay on Discipline of Management
In today's competitive landscape, organizations must utilize every resource to its fullest in order to
achieve profitability. Peter F. Drucker, who is known as "the founding father of the discipline of
management", informs us that employees are assets, which should be treated as a company's most
valuable resource. The key players involved in utilizing this valuable resource are the managers of
a company. Managers have a vital role in a company and the effort they put forth into their tasks and
responsibilities will directly affect the success of a company. In Drucker's book Management: Tasks,
Responsibilities, Practices (Revised Edition), he explains the role of a company's management team
and the secrets to becoming a great manager....show more content...
This mission must take into account and balance the present with the uncertain future. It is an
important administrative task for a manager's mission to strive for the company's full potential. As
Drucker states, "What is the business's theoretical optimum? What prevents us from attaining it?
Where are the limiting and restraining factors that hold back the business and deprive it of the full
return on its resources and efforts"? (32). Determining and adapting a productive mission requires a
manager to be an entrepreneur, a risk taker, and an innovator. A good company mission is adaptable,
and will allow the modern business to survive and perform in a new and unpredictable future.
Once the mission has been determined the next responsibility of a manager is to make the work
place suitable for all employees. In addition to stressing that employees are a company's most
important resource, Drucker explains that they are the only one capable of the growth and
improvement. Encouraging and helping the employees to be happy will create a more productive
and hardworking environment. A manager that meets the needs of the employees will often
encourage more productivity, which will result in meeting the needs of the consumer.
Drucker's third responsibility for management is to realize how the institution is affecting society.
Management must recognize that free

Discipline Is a Must at Home and in School
Discipline is a must at home and in school.
Discipline is the training of the mind and character; the exercise, development and control of the
character, intended to produce obedience and orderly behavior. The definition above is apt enough
for the type of discipline intended for the young people at school.
The need for disciplining young people cannot be over–emphasized. A wise saying goes "Spare the
rod and spoilt the child". An undisciplined child becomes a spoil child. The disciplining does not
necessarily involve the use of cane. It should normally take the form of corrections by the educators
through the setting of good examples and verbal corrections. It is the repeated and deliberate
tendencies to incorrigibility that should...show more content...
Even when a good spade work had been done on the children with regard to discipline before the
children start schooling this good spade work can be spoilt as a result of contact with other children
who have not had the advantage from home. It is the duty of the school to ensure that those with
pre–school good discipline are still better moulded while those still lacking in many essentials of
good discipline are made to be good.
But at home where the children spend most of their time with the parents and relatives, friends
and acquaintances, the good work the school is doing can either be helped or hindered. If the
children are shown and made to follow the good ideas taught in the school it is necessary that
what they and made to act at home be similar to the good ideas taught in the school. If what they
do at home are at variance with what goes on in school the children become people of 'two worlds'
and confusion and frustration result from these conflicting ideas. It is for this reason that the home
and the school should mutually seek advice and inquire on what is not properly understood or
clear as to the proper upbringing of these children. The children should be made to understand that
the home is in the school and vice versa. Neither of the two should be made a refuge from the
rigours of the training of the other. When this happens well behaved, responsible and good citizens
are bred.

Having responsibility in a military environment is of absolute importance. Without responsibility, the
basic functions of a military force cannot be carried out with complete integrity. Each individual
must perform their duties as instructed, regardless of how menial or unimportant the duty may seem
to the individual. The failure to carry out your duties is telling of a lack of discipline, which is a vital
military resource. Consistent ignorance of obligations and responsibilities results in complacency.
Complacency and lack of discipline are both arguably the worst traits a soldier and a military as a
whole can carry. They are recurring factors in many historic military disasters.
This sort of discipline is what separates a professional military force such as the United States Army
from the military forces of other nations, such as the Iraqi Army. It is the reason that our military is
one of the most successful military forces in all of human history. It is the reason that we are the
force that is known worldwide as undefeatable. The difference between a disciplined and
undisciplined force has been tested many times throughout history. This has been shown even in
recent wars, such as the Iraq War. The lack of discipline on the part of the Iraqi Armed Forces may
not have been the only or the biggest factor of their loss, but it was definitely seen throughout the
war as the Iraqi forces had mass routing and unorganized retreats constantly. The battle of Nasiriyah

Interdisciplinary Approach Confusion
Mathematics, science, history, the arts – these are all subjects most people, including myself, have
taken at least once in their lives. Usually, these areas of study do not overlap, except for perhaps a
few real–life applications of mathematical formulas in the sciences, or when looking at the
background of a certain artist to determine the context of a painting or other piece of art. Overall,
however, these disciplines usually remain within themselves. This both agrees and disagrees with
the following claim that will be discussed: "The fields of study of academic disciplines can
overlap, but adopting interdisciplinary approaches to the production of knowledge leads only to
confusion." Firstly, the prompt offers a false dichotomy logical fallacy that is not true, saying
that interdisciplinary approaches will lead solely to confusion, so using interdisciplinary
approaches is the only way to avoid this confusion. Thus, the knowledge question that can be
developed from this prompt and that will be answered is: To what extent does adopting
interdisciplinary approaches lead to confusion in the production of knowledge? Prior to stating
the thesis of this essay, it is necessary to provide definitions of certain words in this prompt. For
the purposes of this assignment, fields of study are topics that a discipline covers. The word
"discipline" in the term academic disciplines refers to a field or an area of study. Meanwhile, an
interdisciplinary approach can be defined as the

My Philosophy of Student Discipline
I believe that each child is unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere
in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as
an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment
that is safe, supports risk–taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I
believe are conducive to establishing such an environment namely, the teacher acting guide, allowing
the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, promoting respect for all the things and all the
people. My passion in teaching and desire to make a difference to an individual has...show more

When they are doing the unnecessary behaviour during on task activity, I normally go to the child
desk and reprimand him/her, or giving them an authoritative look to remind them that their action is
inappropriate. Sometimes I call the child to stay 15 minutes late before sending her home while
informing the parents the reason of him being late in going home. However, in day to day bases,
extreme naughtiness of student can't really be avoided either in educational mainstream or in an
inclusive classroom. I apply punishment to students who have done extreme misbehaviour and
reward for those who have done appropriate behaviour. However, handling and disciplining a
special child have no difference in setting up rules and discipline. Considering their culture, and
understanding student's individuality, they are also individual who needs respect and more
guidance to make their behaviour acceptable in society. Though they also learn in different ways
and in different rate, still it is important to employ various strategies for helping a special child
learn how to appropriately behave in the classroom. Such as positioning myself near my student,
catching her eye, or gently touching her shoulder is my way of bringing her back to focus and I
found out that those are effective strategy, a subtle reminder that I'm aware of her actions. Verbally
reminding the student how to act appropriately or inviting him/her to make an appropriate choice is

Organizational Discipline
Organizational discipline means to "systematically conducting the business by the organizational
members who strictly adhere to the essential rules and regulations," ("Employee Discipline and
Features of a Sound Disciplinary System" 2012). Therefore, discipline helps to enforce company
rules, with the ultimate goal of meeting company visions and values. Discipline is meted out at the
level of management, in terms of disciplining employees for behaviors that do not conform to
company ideals or regulations. However, organizational discipline also entails helping the
organization as a whole to be productive by doing such things as meeting financial targets and
productivity deadlines.
It is important for organizations to have a clear set of rules or guidelines, and systems for employee
discipline. As Franklin & Pagan (2006) point out, "inconsistent discipline can cause losses in
productivity and reduce employee morale." Consistency with regards to discipline helps to minimize
miscommunication, and can increase employee satisfaction. Employees know what is expected of
them, when, why, and how. Discipline is a core component of organizational culture because it
ensures consistent behavior and role clarity in the workplace. From a managerial perspective,
"obedience, orderliness and maintenance of proper subordination among employees" helps create an
ideal organizational culture.
There are two basic approaches to disciplinary activities in the workplace: positive discipline and

What Is Discipline Essay
Do you really understand what it means to 'discipline' someone? How do you define discipline?
Does it mean helping someone get on the right track or is it about casting judgment or punishing a
person for doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to
give you a view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with
your team.
Observations about discipline:
Avoiding confrontation – Many people don't like to discipline their employees because they view it
as a form of confrontation which may lead to conflict. Most of us try to avoid conflict and therefore
put off any communication that may trigger conflict.

Discipline saves time and energy – It makes more sense to take action and discipline someone than it

There are five progressive stages of discipline that can be used with individuals and help a team use
its energy more effectively. The process begins with simple communication and then builds in
intensity of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or
finds a new job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an
effective team member. They are not designed to judge or punish an employee. The manager must
exercise compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual.

The Practice of Discipline
Certain challenges in life can be described as being inevitable. Nearly everyone must face such
typical events throughout the course of their life where surpassing a particular challenge is a sign
of growth and experience, and, having been dealt with, such a trial is not expected to arise again.
Most individuals in our society are familiar with such periods in their lives where they were made
to begin walking as infants, coached into learning how to ride a bicycle later on, encouraged to start
driving a car during the teenage years, earned a high school and/or college degree, etc. Such
challenges and ordeals are expected. They are perceived as being completely natural and...show more

But why? Drugs and alcohol were touted as being very fun and exciting. Wasn't I curious in at
least experimenting a bit? After all, alcohol, especially, was very common and accepted in most
circles. Although it is illegal for minors to consume or possess it, we all know that the average
adult uses it on a seemingly regular, acceptable basis, so why stay away? I watched my own parents
consume it and they did not appear to be negatively affected by alcohol use. Why did I not attend
local parties and participate in the practice of substance experimentation? You could argue that
perhaps I paid attention to the anti–drug messages that were drilled into me throughout school,
beginning at the elementary level, or maybe I was just scared to try drugs because I didn't fully
understand what they were or what they did. Personally, though, I believe that I simply developed an
early understanding of the consequences that come with the use of drugs and alcohol.
During this same time, I began to hear increasing use of a term to describe certain young
individuals who were completely free from drugs. These kids were referred to by the title
"Straightedge." The first mention I had ever heard of this label came from my sister during the
time I was a sophomore in high school when she asked me if I knew of this growing crop of young
kids who listened to violent,

"Discipline of Teams" Paper
The purpose of this paper is to write a summery of the main topics presented in an article written by
Katzenbach and Smith called "The Discipline of Teams". This article was written to show how
people, no matter what differences or backgrounds, can come together to function as a team, not just
as a group of individuals. In order for individuals to work effectively together, they must be
committed to the teams success and they must be able to trust each person within the team to be
responsible for his or her assigned tasks (Katzenbach & Smith, 2005, p. 168).

points for the team. At this point, he has taken a leadership role in guiding his team to succeed and

work they do and overall results of the teams score. Every person on the team knows their

Discipline According to Sailor (2010), "Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning
instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or perfect." The article talks about discipline and
punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a
punishment while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated
by Hogan (2012), "True discipline, however, comes from within the child." Therefore, parents and
teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching,
(2) experiencing freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions.

There is no freedom when discipline is there, especially with the fact that physical discipline is
strongly used by the Samoan teachers. Samoan students are afraid to do anything on their own
because they have to obey what the teacher said. Hogan (2012) stated that, "This level of discipline
cannot be achieved through commands and orders, but through experiencing freedom." The students
have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how to behave instead of punishment that can
lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom.
The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and
what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or not?), develop themselves physically, learning
how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves.
For example, instead of getting told to think about something in a certain time, the students can think
as long as they want about the topic.

Disciplining a Child Essay example
In today's society many people believe spanking children and physically punishing them is a good
way to discipline. I believe there are many more effective ways to discipline a child.
Why do people spank their children? People believe spanking causes pain and fear that you learn
from. For example if I was running by a pool and the ground was wet and I happened to slip and
fall, I would get hurt and I would be afraid to fall again, so I would learn to be more cautious and
walk the second time I went by. With spankings children learn through that fear and pain to no longer

There are many negative effects to spanking, even beyond the physical hurt and mortification, there
is long–lasting emotional pain. Spanking has been linked to low self esteem, depression, masochism,
and even psychological distress.
Most smokers never develop cancer, most drunk drivers don't get into wrecks, and most children
who grow up in homes with lead paint do not suffer brain damage. No intelligent adult would
seriously support smoking, drunk driving, or using lead–based paint to decorate their walls. So why
are adults supporting using physical force against a child?
Ask yourself is spanking children the only effective way to discipline a child? For example in
math, there are many ways to solve a problem that get you to the right answer. We all want the
same thing a well mannered, well behaved, polite child. Rather than spanking another form of
punishment is a time out. If you choose to put the child in a time out he child should be in time
out one minute for each year old they are. If they are 6 years old they would be in time out for 6
minutes. Sometimes the child might be doing something dangerous such as trying to touch the
stove, instead of smacking them, you need to get down to eye level and explain to them why it is
not okay to touch the stove and explain why you are upset with their behavior. You can also trade
toys for things they shouldn't be holding such as

The solar system is governed by certain laws to maintain perfect harmony and beauty. Without this

of a disciplined nation work with a spirit of cooperation and unity. Aristotle has rightly said,

Clearly, if a rule is unenforceable, it is not worth having. Standards of conduct must be maintained
but they must be realistic so as to contribute to the proper functioning of the workplace. Rules
governing insubordination, theft, vandalism, gambling on company premises, drinking on the job
and taking drugs at work, are all related to productivity and the general wellbeing of an
organization, (Eni, 2000). It is believed that the most unpleasant role of an organizational leader is
to institute a disciplinary action to an erring employee (Franklin and Pagan, 2006). Although the goal
is to modify the employees undesirable behaviors, their decisions are often subjected to opposing
personal interpretations. Discipline entails a process of learning. One of the positive contributions
which discipline can make in our lives is that it brings about knowledge that is cumulative;
knowledge that maintains and knowledge that restructures society when applied. And there cannot
be an end to learning because society does not operate in a state of static equilibrium but in a state
of generativity in terms of idea

Discipline Referrals and their effectiveness on Academic Achievement
Introduction Do using discipline referrals as a frequent classroom management philosophy increase
student achievement scores? In today's schools there are many theories about how to effectively
handle a classroom. Teachers are given options across the educational discipline spectrum, but
ultimately are given the choice about how to effectively handle their own classroom management.
One potential step in handling classroom discipline is to write a referral that sends the student to the
office. This allows other students in the class to learn effectively. Students witness these incidents
and are meant to be afraid. The theory is that this enhances student engagement through fear, which
in turn increases students' academic achievement. In this study, research will be done to identify
whether an increase in classroom discipline referrals will also increase academic achievement
scores. Various studies in the past have used discipline as a means of studying academic
achievement. In the study, Middle School Predictors of High School Performance: A Case study of
Dropout Risk Indicators (2016), by McKee and Caldarella, a study was done to identify the
indicators of students dropping out. One such indicator they studied was absenteeism in a school.
While referrals are the principal variable in this study, there is a correlation between time spent in the
classroom and student achievement. McKee and

  • 2. Employee Discipline Essay Employee discipline is a concept that could automatically set a negative tone in the workplace. Ideally in a perfect world the workplace would be conflict free and every employee would be the perfect employee. However, unfortunately there probably is not a thing as perfect world. Employee discipline method that can be used by organizational leaders on trying to utilize various methods to help promote and encourage orderly conduct in the workplace. According to Zachary (2013), an organization should have the proper systems in place that helps to encourage proper behavior in the workplace. The right methods to be used to change that behavior if it negatively impacts the organization. In situations where discipline is required the HR perspective would be the type of "punishment" that might have to be administered by HR managers this could often times be unpleasant for both the administrator and the employee. Whether it is dismissing the employee. Perhaps suspending the employee. Even just a written warning. Regardless of the intensity of the punishment it requires that leadership utilize the right methods to help ensure that minimum fallout transpires from the discipline that is used. When an employee experiences separation from an organization it does not necessary mean that it is all due to poor behavior on the part of the employee. According to Kemery, Dunlap, and Bedelan, (1989) separation could involve various forms such as lay–off, discharge, resignation, suspension. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Classroom Management Discipline Classroom Management & Discipline Emily Rickertsen EIS 450G: Classroom Management Dr. Georg Gunzenhauser Fall 2014 Classroom Management Related to Discipline Teacher–Student Relationship Student–teacher relationship is a vital role in managing a classroom and discipline. As a teacher, being able to connect with students is a key to academic instructional success; students are more likely to show respect to a teacher if that teacher has a connection with the students. Every teacher is bound to encounter a time when discipline must be used in some way. How is this discipline going to affect the student–teacher relationship? Jong, Mainhard, Tartwijk, Veldman, Verloop, & Wubbels (2013) explored how student –teachers...show more content... This consists of posting, no more than four rules in the classroom and having a list of 6 consequences that build upon one another, beginning with a warning, followed by writing the student's name on the board, and ending with having a parent come to the school for a parent–teacher conference (Logan, 2003). That discipline technique was aimed at middle and high school students; the author also suggests a similar technique for elementary age students. "Watch the Signs!" is a discipline program that utilized color–coded paper for each student to signal the students behavior: green= satisfactory, blue= needs to improve, yellow=needs to improve, red= unsatisfactory (Logan, 2003, p. 16–17). Each color, with the exception of green, also has a repercussion ranging from a 10 minute time–out to a phone call to a parent to an out of classroom timeout (Logan, 2003). A large part of having an effective classroom and discipline program is communicating the classroom expectation early and clearly. Along with the expectations, communicating the consequences for misbehavior to all students. By having clear consequences for students, there is no question that by doing behavior X, the student will be held accountable and be disciplined by consequence Y. I agree with the framework that Logan did with the discipline programs in this article. I would change some of the consequence progressions in some of the examples provided Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Discipline Research Paper Punishment, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character and control gained by enforcing obedience or order can all be used to define the word "discipline". If I could define it in my own words, I would say that "discipline" is something you need to learn or be taught when you need to correct disobedience. Perhaps even your own disobedience, which would then change the word to self–discipline. Discipline is a concept that is absolutely essential to your character. In my essay, I will talk about how it helps ourselves and others, how it correlates with the religion Islam, and some things that you can do to learn and practice discipline. Discipline helps us ethically, morally, economically, and also...show more content... If there was no discipline, people would do whatever they wanted and make terrible mistakes without putting the consideration of others first and foremost. Lack of discipline means lack of self–restraint and control. The result of that is not only harmful but catastrophic. It will make it difficult for you to differentiate right from wrong and see the long–term effects of your actions. If you put your mind to it, you can learn to develop discipline and prevent these harmful thing from happening. Now what does the religion Islam say about discipline? Well, according to Al–Islam.com, discipline and control in Islam is not equal to dictatorship. For example, good parents take into consideration the age and understanding of the child, his or her circumstances, and other relative factors. Rules are then made accordingly. Important points are also stated such as: when disciplining a child, the parent should refrain from becoming a dictator. A rule is not to be followed because "I say so" but because it is the right thing to do. Also another important point that stood out to me was to be in control of yourself when you are disciplining or being disciplined and when a mistake has been made, to let the person make amends. This is a part of Islam. Forgiveness. Islam is not about having anger in our hearts, it is about peace. If you are practicing the religion Islam, you have to also strive to be a good Muslim. Am I a good Muslim? No. Do I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Discipline of Management In today's competitive landscape, organizations must utilize every resource to its fullest in order to achieve profitability. Peter F. Drucker, who is known as "the founding father of the discipline of management", informs us that employees are assets, which should be treated as a company's most valuable resource. The key players involved in utilizing this valuable resource are the managers of a company. Managers have a vital role in a company and the effort they put forth into their tasks and responsibilities will directly affect the success of a company. In Drucker's book Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices (Revised Edition), he explains the role of a company's management team and the secrets to becoming a great manager....show more content... This mission must take into account and balance the present with the uncertain future. It is an important administrative task for a manager's mission to strive for the company's full potential. As Drucker states, "What is the business's theoretical optimum? What prevents us from attaining it? Where are the limiting and restraining factors that hold back the business and deprive it of the full return on its resources and efforts"? (32). Determining and adapting a productive mission requires a manager to be an entrepreneur, a risk taker, and an innovator. A good company mission is adaptable, and will allow the modern business to survive and perform in a new and unpredictable future. Once the mission has been determined the next responsibility of a manager is to make the work place suitable for all employees. In addition to stressing that employees are a company's most important resource, Drucker explains that they are the only one capable of the growth and improvement. Encouraging and helping the employees to be happy will create a more productive and hardworking environment. A manager that meets the needs of the employees will often encourage more productivity, which will result in meeting the needs of the consumer. Drucker's third responsibility for management is to realize how the institution is affecting society. Management must recognize that free Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Discipline Is a Must at Home and in School Discipline is a must at home and in school. Discipline is the training of the mind and character; the exercise, development and control of the character, intended to produce obedience and orderly behavior. The definition above is apt enough for the type of discipline intended for the young people at school. The need for disciplining young people cannot be over–emphasized. A wise saying goes "Spare the rod and spoilt the child". An undisciplined child becomes a spoil child. The disciplining does not necessarily involve the use of cane. It should normally take the form of corrections by the educators through the setting of good examples and verbal corrections. It is the repeated and deliberate tendencies to incorrigibility that should...show more content... Even when a good spade work had been done on the children with regard to discipline before the children start schooling this good spade work can be spoilt as a result of contact with other children who have not had the advantage from home. It is the duty of the school to ensure that those with pre–school good discipline are still better moulded while those still lacking in many essentials of good discipline are made to be good. But at home where the children spend most of their time with the parents and relatives, friends and acquaintances, the good work the school is doing can either be helped or hindered. If the children are shown and made to follow the good ideas taught in the school it is necessary that what they and made to act at home be similar to the good ideas taught in the school. If what they do at home are at variance with what goes on in school the children become people of 'two worlds' and confusion and frustration result from these conflicting ideas. It is for this reason that the home and the school should mutually seek advice and inquire on what is not properly understood or clear as to the proper upbringing of these children. The children should be made to understand that the home is in the school and vice versa. Neither of the two should be made a refuge from the rigours of the training of the other. When this happens well behaved, responsible and good citizens are bred. Written by Adewumi Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Having responsibility in a military environment is of absolute importance. Without responsibility, the basic functions of a military force cannot be carried out with complete integrity. Each individual must perform their duties as instructed, regardless of how menial or unimportant the duty may seem to the individual. The failure to carry out your duties is telling of a lack of discipline, which is a vital military resource. Consistent ignorance of obligations and responsibilities results in complacency. Complacency and lack of discipline are both arguably the worst traits a soldier and a military as a whole can carry. They are recurring factors in many historic military disasters. This sort of discipline is what separates a professional military force such as the United States Army from the military forces of other nations, such as the Iraqi Army. It is the reason that our military is one of the most successful military forces in all of human history. It is the reason that we are the force that is known worldwide as undefeatable. The difference between a disciplined and undisciplined force has been tested many times throughout history. This has been shown even in recent wars, such as the Iraq War. The lack of discipline on the part of the Iraqi Armed Forces may not have been the only or the biggest factor of their loss, but it was definitely seen throughout the war as the Iraqi forces had mass routing and unorganized retreats constantly. The battle of Nasiriyah saw many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Interdisciplinary Approach Confusion Mathematics, science, history, the arts – these are all subjects most people, including myself, have taken at least once in their lives. Usually, these areas of study do not overlap, except for perhaps a few real–life applications of mathematical formulas in the sciences, or when looking at the background of a certain artist to determine the context of a painting or other piece of art. Overall, however, these disciplines usually remain within themselves. This both agrees and disagrees with the following claim that will be discussed: "The fields of study of academic disciplines can overlap, but adopting interdisciplinary approaches to the production of knowledge leads only to confusion." Firstly, the prompt offers a false dichotomy logical fallacy that is not true, saying that interdisciplinary approaches will lead solely to confusion, so using interdisciplinary approaches is the only way to avoid this confusion. Thus, the knowledge question that can be developed from this prompt and that will be answered is: To what extent does adopting interdisciplinary approaches lead to confusion in the production of knowledge? Prior to stating the thesis of this essay, it is necessary to provide definitions of certain words in this prompt. For the purposes of this assignment, fields of study are topics that a discipline covers. The word "discipline" in the term academic disciplines refers to a field or an area of study. Meanwhile, an interdisciplinary approach can be defined as the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Philosophy of Student Discipline My Philosophy of Student Discipline I believe that each child is unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk–taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment namely, the teacher acting guide, allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, promoting respect for all the things and all the people. When they are doing the unnecessary behaviour during on task activity, I normally go to the child desk and reprimand him/her, or giving them an authoritative look to remind them that their action is inappropriate. Sometimes I call the child to stay 15 minutes late before sending her home while informing the parents the reason of him being late in going home. However, in day to day bases, extreme naughtiness of student can't really be avoided either in educational mainstream or in an inclusive classroom. I apply punishment to students who have done extreme misbehaviour and reward for those who have done appropriate behaviour. However, handling and disciplining a special child have no difference in setting up rules and discipline. Considering their culture, and understanding student's individuality, they are also individual who needs respect and more guidance to make their behaviour acceptable in society. Though they also learn in different ways and in different rate, still it is important to employ various strategies for helping a special child learn how to appropriately behave in the classroom. Such as positioning myself near my student, catching her eye, or gently touching her shoulder is my way of bringing her back to focus and I found out that those are effective strategy, a subtle reminder that I'm aware of her actions. • 10. Organizational Discipline Organizational discipline means to "systematically conducting the business by the organizational members who strictly adhere to the essential rules and regulations," ("Employee Discipline and Features of a Sound Disciplinary System" 2012). Therefore, discipline helps to enforce company rules, with the ultimate goal of meeting company visions and values. Discipline is meted out at the level of management, in terms of disciplining employees for behaviors that do not conform to company ideals or regulations. However, organizational discipline also entails helping the organization as a whole to be productive by doing such things as meeting financial targets and productivity deadlines. It is important for organizations to have a clear set of rules or guidelines, and systems for employee discipline. As Franklin & Pagan (2006) point out, "inconsistent discipline can cause losses in productivity and reduce employee morale." Consistency with regards to discipline helps to minimize miscommunication, and can increase employee satisfaction. Employees know what is expected of them, when, why, and how. Discipline is a core component of organizational culture because it ensures consistent behavior and role clarity in the workplace. From a managerial perspective, "obedience, orderliness and maintenance of proper subordination among employees" helps create an ideal organizational culture. • 11. What Is Discipline Essay Do you really understand what it means to 'discipline' someone? How do you define discipline? Does it mean helping someone get on the right track or is it about casting judgment or punishing a person for doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to give you a view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with your team. Observations about discipline: Avoiding confrontation – Many people don't like to discipline their employees because they view it as a form of confrontation which may lead to conflict. By the Greek definition, it's about helping someone use their energy efficiently to become more effective in their job. Discipline saves time and energy – It makes more sense to take action and discipline someone than it does to waste time and energy thinking about it. There are five progressive stages of discipline that can be used with individuals and help a team use its energy more effectively. The process begins with simple communication and then builds in intensity of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or finds a new job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an effective team member. They are not designed to judge or punish an employee. The manager must exercise compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual. 1. Communicate – It's imperative that an employee understands completely what is expected of him. Nearly everyone must face such typical events throughout the course of their life where surpassing a particular challenge is a sign of growth and experience, and, having been dealt with, such a trial is not expected to arise again. Most individuals in our society are familiar with such periods in their lives where they were made to begin walking as infants, coached into learning how to ride a bicycle later on, encouraged to start driving a car during the teenage years, earned a high school and/or college degree, etc. Such challenges and ordeals are expected. They are perceived as being completely natural and...show more content... But why? Drugs and alcohol were touted as being very fun and exciting. Wasn't I curious in at least experimenting a bit? After all, alcohol, especially, was very common and accepted in most circles. Although it is illegal for minors to consume or possess it, we all know that the average adult uses it on a seemingly regular, acceptable basis, so why stay away? I watched my own parents consume it and they did not appear to be negatively affected by alcohol use. Why did I not attend local parties and participate in the practice of substance experimentation? You could argue that perhaps I paid attention to the anti–drug messages that were drilled into me throughout school, beginning at the elementary level, or maybe I was just scared to try drugs because I didn't fully understand what they were or what they did. Personally, though, I believe that I simply developed an early understanding of the consequences that come with the use of drugs and alcohol. During this same time, I began to hear increasing use of a term to describe certain young individuals who were completely free from drugs. These kids were referred to by the title "Straightedge." Discipline of Teams Essay 1 "Discipline of Teams" Paper The purpose of this paper is to write a summery of the main topics presented in an article written by Katzenbach and Smith called "The Discipline of Teams". This article was written to show how people, no matter what differences or backgrounds, can come together to function as a team, not just as a group of individuals. In order for individuals to work effectively together, they must be committed to the teams success and they must be able to trust each person within the team to be responsible for his or her assigned tasks (Katzenbach & Smith, 2005, p. 168). According to Katzenbach and Smith (2005), "Not all groups are teams" (p. 164). They go on to state how Working Groups and Teams differ. Working ...show more content... At this point, he has taken a leadership role in guiding his team to succeed and meet the teams goal of winning the game. All players and coaches must be accountable for the work they do and overall results of the teams score. Every person on the team knows their individual role but must be prepared to take action when its required of them to make sure that goal is met. Football teams have meetings to resolve problems within the team where they would like to see improvement. These meetings aren't discourage or to enrage the members, but to improve the overall goal of the team, which is to succeed and win. • 14. Essay On Discipline Discipline According to Sailor (2010), "Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or perfect." The article talks about discipline and punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a punishment while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated by Hogan (2012), "True discipline, however, comes from within the child." Therefore, parents and teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching, (2) experiencing freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions. Samoan students are afraid to do anything on their own because they have to obey what the teacher said. Hogan (2012) stated that, "This level of discipline cannot be achieved through commands and orders, but through experiencing freedom." The students have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how to behave instead of punishment that can lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom. The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or not?), develop themselves physically, learning how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves. For example, instead of getting told to think about something in a certain time, the students can think as long as they want about the topic. Natural Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay On Classroom Discipline Classroom Discipline Preschool aged children can be headstrong and persistent to do what they want to do. It will be important for me as a teacher to have a plan in place for classroom discipline and management before I begin teaching. That does not mean that my plan of action might not change, however, feeling confident about my approach will help in the implementation. Different approaches will have to be taken with different students for both discipline and classroom management techniques, however, working with administrators, other teachers, and the parents will strengthen the support for positive behavior in the classroom. The first and most important thing that must happen within the classroom and with parents is to build a...show more content... I must have in place and implement other procedures to ensure that students continue to develop the good behaviors for learning. I will not only been seen looking, I will be verbal about looking for positive behaviors and students making good choices. I will be sure to reward students to good choices and good behavior in a very public way as well, either through a stamp or another reward that can be traded in for treasures. In most instances I will plan to use the least dramatic and invasive redirection as possible. Either by walking to students who are being loud, using a single word that is predetermined, or even to give quiet positive praise to students, I will be sure to use the correct tone to match the task at hand. Consequences of negative and disruptive behavior, along with poor choices, must be enforceable and consistent for students if they are to be successful in aiding with classroom discipline. Using a behavior system where students have a chance to correct the behavior, such as moving your color, will give them a chance to reflect and make better choices. I will have to be quick with the consequences and not take them personally, as this will only make things worse. I will have to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Disciplining a Child Essay example In today's society many people believe spanking children and physically punishing them is a good way to discipline. I believe there are many more effective ways to discipline a child. Why do people spank their children? People believe spanking causes pain and fear that you learn from. For example if I was running by a pool and the ground was wet and I happened to slip and fall, I would get hurt and I would be afraid to fall again, so I would learn to be more cautious and walk the second time I went by. With spankings children learn through that fear and pain to no longer repeat the certain action. Spanking can also let the child know the difference between good and bad. Knowing the difference can help them become better people by...show more content... There are many negative effects to spanking, even beyond the physical hurt and mortification, there is long–lasting emotional pain. Spanking has been linked to low self esteem, depression, masochism, and even psychological distress. Most smokers never develop cancer, most drunk drivers don't get into wrecks, and most children who grow up in homes with lead paint do not suffer brain damage. No intelligent adult would seriously support smoking, drunk driving, or using lead–based paint to decorate their walls. So why are adults supporting using physical force against a child? Ask yourself is spanking children the only effective way to discipline a child? For example in math, there are many ways to solve a problem that get you to the right answer. We all want the same thing a well mannered, well behaved, polite child. Rather than spanking another form of punishment is a time out. If you choose to put the child in a time out he child should be in time out one minute for each year old they are. If they are 6 years old they would be in time out for 6 minutes. Sometimes the child might be doing something dangerous such as trying to touch the stove, instead of smacking them, you need to get down to eye level and explain to them why it is not okay to touch the stove and explain why you are upset with their behavior. You can also trade toys for things they shouldn't be holding such as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Standards of conduct must be maintained but they must be realistic so as to contribute to the proper functioning of the workplace. Rules governing insubordination, theft, vandalism, gambling on company premises, drinking on the job and taking drugs at work, are all related to productivity and the general wellbeing of an organization, (Eni, 2000). It is believed that the most unpleasant role of an organizational leader is to institute a disciplinary action to an erring employee (Franklin and Pagan, 2006). Although the goal is to modify the employees undesirable behaviors, their decisions are often subjected to opposing personal interpretations. Discipline entails a process of learning. One of the positive contributions which discipline can make in our lives is that it brings about knowledge that is cumulative; knowledge that maintains and knowledge that restructures society when applied. And there cannot be an end to learning because society does not operate in a state of static equilibrium but in a state of generativity in terms of idea Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Discipline Referrals and their effectiveness on Academic Achievement Introduction Do using discipline referrals as a frequent classroom management philosophy increase student achievement scores? In today's schools there are many theories about how to effectively handle a classroom. Teachers are given options across the educational discipline spectrum, but ultimately are given the choice about how to effectively handle their own classroom management. One potential step in handling classroom discipline is to write a referral that sends the student to the office. This allows other students in the class to learn effectively. Students witness these incidents and are meant to be afraid. The theory is that this enhances student engagement through fear, which in turn increases students' academic achievement. In this study, research will be done to identify whether an increase in classroom discipline referrals will also increase academic achievement scores. Various studies in the past have used discipline as a means of studying academic achievement. In the study, Middle School Predictors of High School Performance: A Case study of Dropout Risk Indicators (2016), by McKee and Caldarella, a study was done to identify the indicators of students dropping out. One such indicator they studied was absenteeism in a school. While referrals are the principal variable in this study, there is a correlation between time spent in the classroom and student achievement. McKee and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
