The Big Idea: Family
- 2. Philippians 2:1-5 (NIV) 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

One Anothers • Loving one another (John 13:34) • Forgiving one another (Ephesians 4:32) • Accepting one another (Romans 15:7) • Bearing with one another (Ephesians 4:2) • Being devoted to one another (Romans 12:10) • Honouring one another above ourselves (Rom 12:10) • Greeting one another (2 Corinthians 13 :12) • Being hospitable to one another (1 Peter 4:9) • Being kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32)

- 15. Why is this message so important for you today?
- 16. 1. God wants your attitude to be the same as Jesus! 2. The only disciple to do anything by himself in the Gospels was Judas. We need each other!
- 17. Jonathan Dodson: "Churches behave like businesses but act surprised when people in their congregations behave like consumers.”
- 18. 3. The Bible doesn’t even contemplate a Christian not being part of a local church. 4. Early Church did not bring people to a meeting ‘to be saved’.

- Made himself nothing, emptied himself. Did not give up his deity but laid aside his glory and submitted to the humiliation of becoming man
- Appearance of man – he took on the actual outward characteristics of a man. Heightens his humanity. He dies as one who was cursed.

- God’s design is that all people everywhere should worship and serve jesus as Lord. Ultimately all will acknowledge Him as Lord, willing or not.

DOWNWARDLY mobile. A riches to rags story. Let go of social status – could have started with a higher social status. Arrived on earth as a President / COO. Made himself nothing, nature of a servant. Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as aransom for many”Let og of legal status – he had rights but gave them up. Even right to life and became obedient to death. Death reserved for lowest caste of society. Went from light of God to darkness of death.WHAT ABOUT YOU?Still want to ask God for the same attitude as Christ Jesus?He gave up any reputation, standing, statusTo have the same atittitude means we are willing to be a person of no reputation
- Is family important to you? Do you want to build family on earth – home, church, and work place? To take on God’s big idea into your life means you are willing to let go of your big ideas. You are willing to say “my big idea for life’ is family, relationship, community. I let go of every other big idea and I’m going to build around this idea. I’m going to make ‘building family’ the way I build my life. I’m going to give it time and energy and purpose.I am willing to let go of my big ideas on how to live life and take on family as the way to govern my life. I am willing to adopt Christ’s attitude and be of no reputation. Relinquish my standing. I am willing to make substantial sacrifices to live this idea out at home and in the work place. I am willing to declare Jesus’ Lordship to those who need a spiritual family as this is the primary way to build God’s Kingdom on earth. WHAT DOES KINGDOM FAMILY LOOK LIKE??
