Literature Review
This particular literature review is based on a journal article from Research Hub – International
Multidisciplinary Research Journal titled “The Effect of Social Media on College Students” by
Tejas B. Shah and Marteen H. Patel where the author drop light on usages of social media by the
college students. According to the authors, most of the college students are staying busy with
handset, laptops and other handy gadgets and using internet most of the time and the reason for
this, the students are immensely engaging in chatting, updating their Facebook Profile, checking
mail etc. Moreover, as per the author the college students spend most of their time on social
media and it severely harms their studies. The intention of the college students in Facebook to
make friends and they use the social media site to always connected with the friends. There are
also several positive sides of the social site such as it helps in discussing the subject with the
fellow students and professors so that it helps in study (B. Shah & H. Patel, 2016). However, it is
actually seen that the students used to be busy mostly in chatting and e mailing instead of use the
social media productively. Therefore, the researcher suggests that the student must balancing
between the use of social media and studies. It is observed that the college students are busy with
the social media sites even in the lecture hall when the lectures are going on and even when they
reading they use social media. This spoil the valuable time of the students thus, the students need
to learn effective time management so that they divided each task a particular time frame.
