Target Audience
Name of Production: No Escape
TARGET AUDIENCE: 16 – 25 Year olds, Male & Female
The target audience that we are targetingfor our trailer will be females and malesranging
16 – 25 years old. This is similar to existingTV shows such as Waterloo Road and Skins who
have the same kind of demographicthat we are intendingto target. We want to target this
audience instead of the typical 30 – 50 year old women because we feel as though there
aren’t many Soap Operasthat target the younger audience, which is whywe want to create
our trailer and Soap that goes against the typical conventions that are used in Soap Operas
whilst still keeping some similarities.
The common theme from these Soap Operasis the more negative storyline in conjunction
with the target audience from these Soaps; for example the consistent storylinesthat have
social problemsaddressed such as teenage pregnancy, depression, popularity, bullyingetc.
Throughout our trailer we want that theme of tackling the social problemsand educatingthe
audience on these subjects,so in our trailer we are going to highlight the issue of bullying,
pressure from parentsand depression; thiswill get ‘caregivers’(Maslow) to watch the show
so that theycan see what happensto the characters Also, another common theme with
Waterloo Road is the school element of the show, where the trailer we are going to produce
is also set in a school environment which makes our Soap more relatable in order for the
audience to find that ‘personal identification’(Katz).
Overall, the target audience for our Soap will be the younger audience and the theme of the
trailer is more darkthan a stereotypical Soap Opera but we want to go against that
conventions and bringa new branch off of Soap Operas that appeal to a different audience
whilst still having similaritiesthat linkour trailer to the typical Soap Opera genre.
