2. Methods of collecting feedback
To collect feedback for my music video, I used a
variety of methods in order to generate the most
useful responses from my target audience. These
included:
• Focus Groups
• Asking family and friends via Whatsapp and Facebook groups
• Mini questionnaires
• Posting to social networks on which the majority of the people I
connect with are my target audience
3. Positive feedback
“Really good camera quality!”
“Good to see lots of outfit and
location changes which added
dimension and a level of
realism to the video”
“The acting by the two girls
was believe and helped move
the story along.”
4. Constructive Criticism
“Lighting was not consistent in
the majority of the video”
I felt this comment was understandable, albeit slightly
harsh. The video was filmed across multiple locations,
each with their separate lighting sources so regulating
the lighting was close to impossible. Being on a
restricting budget also meant that we did not have the
professional equipment to alter the lighting ourselves.
Perhaps next time I would limit the number of locations
used to make it easier to control the lighting or search
around for the appropriate equipment to better my
video.
“Found it difficult at first to understand
what the video was about, so maybe
find ways to make it clearer?
This was a recurring point made by respondents, after
re-watching the video, perhaps filming at locations such
as a graveyard would have made it clear that the
protagonist’s friend had passed away. Also, more scenes
showing the friends together would also have cemented
the notion that they were very close and that they were
best friends.
“The timing of the
editing could have
complimented the
music more”
After re-watching the video, this was a very good point which I which I could have
spotted when I was at the editing stage. The very beginning struck me most, as the
shot-reaction-shots would have perfectly fitted with the piano chords had I timed the
correctly. This is something I will take into consideration next time, as it is small
differences like this that differentiate amateur videos from professional videos.
5. Overall response
From analysing and collecting my audience feedback, I have found that
my ancillary tasks proved to be more successful than my video. This
correlates with how I felt creating them as I am not a strong
videographer and do not really like filming as much as making still
products. If I were to redo this video, I would take a much more
simplistic approach and focus on editing to create a more visual piece,
as due to the lack of professional resources needed to produce a high
quality video, I feel this approach would prove to be more successful.
