TRY AGAIN VIDEO
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Since creating the three products, feedback has helped move the production along and change pieces within
the video, digipack and magazine advert. Once finding my target audience for Tom Cox’s Try Again (18-
30), I set out asking people of that age group, within Facebook and Twitter, their views of my products. I
also used a online survey called Survey monkey and the results can be found here
Music Video
Making my video was a hard due to lack of software, memory and time. So getting feedback was vital for my
progression as well as my final video. I asked a group of people my age: Do you prefer a performance-based
video or a narrative-based video? 70% preferred a narrative-based video which stood out for me as it was
the type of video I wanted to do. From this alone I created a video which in my view was of a high
standard, however with the fact of low memory on my laptop, the rendering took over 12 hours and
resulting with a video which had a couple of unintended glitches. With this fact and only having a short time
I was unable to redo my video after receiving feedback. However I will go through it describing what I could
have done if I had more time! 23 people viewed my video and filled in a survey, with all in the age range
and 12 being female and 11 male the results were going to be fair and even. 65% scored it 8 or higher out of
10 showing the video was of a good standard. I asked: What did they enjoy about the film? Many
commented about the strong storyline and effects used. Others admired the emotion of the piece and the
good delivery of the song through the video. When asking what could have been improved? Many found
the glitchs effecting the video as a whole. One or two pointed out that the leave colour effect during the
spray paint scene was good but red pieces were seen on the girls face which they felt could have been edited
out to make more professional. In this case I would have redone the effect to see whether I could remove
some of the red from the character. Another point about the rewinding with the drugs and money was used
too much. I would have looked at it and tried to cut it down and use other footage. After that though 21 said

they would introduce this video to their friends and were encouraged to check out more if Toms work.
Digipack
With this I had an idea for what I wanted as my picture. I wanted to show a connection between this and
my video. However I didn’t want to have drugs as my front image, so instead I looked at the next closest
addiction, smoking. With this I found a connection with a burnt out cigarette symbolizing life being wasted
away. I showed this image to many people who had heard the song and my feedback was positive as they

3. saw the connection between the two however they felt the image was a
little poor in the writing around the edge. If you have viewed my section
on Planning Digipack, you would have seen this image which is pretty
poor in terms of effort in the writing and the
cigarette. Although the grittiness of the ash was
good the writing let it down in the eyes of the
audience which I agreed with. So I redid the photo
and faced my next feedback problem. People felt it was hard to be sure it was a
cigarette due to the black and white theme. So with that I had to use my skills of
photoshop and make the bud of the burnt cigarette stick out. With the final cover
done, my feedback agreed it was better and easy to
understand the meaning behind it. The next problem for the digipack
was the back cover. I had an image of tom which feedback gave was too
small and that it didn’t tell you what the playlist was. The writing also was
poor and had not attack and appeal within the font. One person wasn’t
sure about the little piece I had written about Tom. So looking at the
problems which the audience feedback, I had to revamp the style of the
digipack’s back cover and I decided to link the font used in the magazine
advert to connect them both in finer detail. I got rid of the writing and
replaced it with the playlist. I also added a barcode to make it look
professional. The Inside then needed to be looked at again as the theme need to continue with the
audiences response and changes. So I changed the font and style with the ‘Tom Cox’ and the ‘Try Again’
which is scattered across two boxes between the information about the songs on the CD.
Magazine Advert
Although this has the same path as the digipack, I still wanted things to change. The feedback I received
from the audience suggested it just looks like a larger image of the album cover and not an advertisement. I
decided to add on more Star ratings from big music companies and critics. This gave it more of a review
look showing feedback from other magazines and artists. I also changed the text in the top corner to clarify
it was a single release from his new album. Looking at my views about connecting the audience with Tom, I
added his twitter, myspace and soundcloud social network connections so people can comment and
communicate with tom to show their appreciation and views of Tom’s music.
Conclusion
Evaluation Question 3 | 5/7/2012
Looking at what I have learnt from my audience feedback, I can say I successfully took on their viewpoints
and opinions and tried to change pieces so it made more sense to them and look more of a collection of
professional products. Although being unable to edit my video, the feedback was very positive and
satisfying. My video has now over 500 views which in itself shows how far my efforts have gone for it to be
enjoyed and appreciated by my target audience.
