How did you use new media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout my coursework working as a team creating RowTown and an individual on my
evaluation I have used lots of social media pages and software's to help me. Using these were vital
for me because I need them for my planning before starting my work, the research that we
conducted and to help me complete my evaluation.

2. Word Press is a free, Web-based software program that users can create their own blogs
with. Word press is used by lots of business to set up there own blog pages and help
promote and run their companies.
Throughout this coursework process me and my group have constantly used word press
to complete blogging work. We all have our own blog page and the main blog pages
where group related posts will go. On the blogs I have been able to include videos,
pictures and songs with my posts by embedding them using HTML code. Our teacher Mr
Allison also had his own word press blog page where he could leave us comment on how
we can improve our work. We can reply to these comment and get an understanding for
what need to be done.
We all had used word press from last year so were fully aware on how it works and what
we needed to do on it to get the best possible marks.

3. Another piece of software we used was garage band.
Garage band allowed us to create external music and sound
that we would use in our soap opera. It provides you with
lots of different types of music that can be put together and
mixed with.
Me and max where in charge of garage band, in the previous years work I had create a few songs for our
two minuet video, so I had some experience and knowledge on what to do. In RowTown we were
looking for a non-diagetic song that could seen catchy to an audience. I believe this is important because
audience of soap always remember the theme song for example Eastenders “duff duff”. Garage band
was extremely helpful to use in our text and was simple for us to use.
When we had created our music via garage band we needed to get it over to
the blogs so we went through sound cloud. First we create a new sound
cloud account and from them where able to upload any music. After it was
uploaded we could use the embed code and move it over to word press.
I found sound cloud simple to use and is a great way to transfer music.
The link at the bottom is to the theme song that we created in garaged band and used
sound cloud to transfer it to our blogs.

4. When we had finished our rough cut of RowTown we uploaded it to
vimeo. From here we were able to get audience to view are text and
give us feedback. We then used this feedback to make changes to
RowTown and get it ready for are final cut where it would be
uploaded to vimeo for the second time.
We also used vimeo in our evaluation for the second question when we created a video of the
four of us answering the question. I believe this give the evaluation a selection of media
attributes.
I personally used YouTube when I was conducting my research on soap opera and
the different whens we could use them to create RowTown. I watched a variety of
past episode of famous British soaps such as Hollyokes, Coronation Street and
Eastenders. I needed to watch all three of these soap to get a idea on how the
different soaps choose to film and relate it to their target audiences.
I have also watch trailers for these soaps operas to allow me and my group to see
how they create their trailers and what techniques they may use that could help us.
I used YouTube In some of my posts into the blog to show that I had done some
research into British soaps and their trailers.

5. We used adobe premier element to complete all of the editing that was required
for RowTown. The group was now compatible with the use of premier seeing as
we had now used it on a number of occasions and find that it is the best editing
software.
Andre and jack were the editors in the group and I believe that they did a great job putting the whole text
together. There job as editors including cutting parts of the video, to get the correct scenes, adding the
voice overs and adding the music, then making sure it is all suitable done and work well as text. Through
premier the guys also started to add graphic to come in and match the same time as the voice overs. This is
to add to the effect that there is trouble in RowTown and we want the audience to notice this.
We used photo plus when we created our two pieces of print work. These
print works include a magazine cover and the quad poster. We were able to
create the template of the print works then added pictures and text to it.
The image on the left shows the TV Choice soap magazine front cover that
we created in photo plus to promote RowTown. We decided added other
articles on the front cover such as Britain's got talent, to give it the real feel
for a TV magazine. On the quad poster we had four characters with the
different characters representing the different communities. We used mise
en scene by include the character wearing a hoodie.

6. We used Facebook to create a group chat, which
allowed us to make arrangements on when to film
and get everything prepared.
I think using social networking is a great
way of communication we can create a
group chat and add anyone we want to
join in to it. Seeing that we are all
“friend” on Facebook all four of us were
a part of it.
A big positive of using Facebook for our
group chat is that we all use Facebook
on a regular bases and have smart
phones which gives us instant updates
as soon as a member has posted a
comment into the chat.
In the end it was just as I expected, we
were able to get a successful group chat
going.

7. Both Microsoft word and Microsoft publisher are a big part of my of my
evaluation because its these software's that I will be working on my four
evaluation questions for.
Before I get all my work in my evaluation I will work on it in word. In
word I will be able to finish my questions read it through and use
spell and grammar check which will allow me to ensure my work is
to the best of my ability. I have also used word for the very same
purpose throughout my blogging to complete all my posts.
I am using PowerPoint for this question to help me to complete my evaluation
but use a variety of methods. Instead of just typing up on word and pasting to
word press I can create a presentation and embed it in. Me and the RowTown
team have also used PowerPoint in our blogs for our character profile and
RowTown pitch posts.
